I only meditate for 1 second at a time with appreciative intervals.
90% of popular advice on meditation is harmful just like all self help and therapy because it overwrites your behavior, with brute force, rather than healing.
The thoughts that people tell you to just observe, they are a defense mechanism because you are afraid of quitting romanticizing your pains.
For me, i can hit a hard brake on the thoughts and instantly a reflex of almost dry-heaving comes up, and i get a memory of my brother farting in my face like the family guy
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=A83XvWn1kV8I was too manly to be disgusted. "Men don't get disgusted. We understand what we can and cannot control" --------- BULLSHIT ADVICE, do not follow that sick shit advice. Your lack of disgust is a mental idea, the body is disgusted no matter what you tell it. It wants you to feel the disgust and gireve it to know that you are finally safe. Until then it will sound alarm bells be it by anxiety disorders, or if you successfully shut down the anxiety using CBT then the body will find another more painful outlet.
When your thoughts fade away, if you abuse your mind for long enough that they quiet down, then your anxieties will float up. And then? Most people act like brute force therapists. Gaslight their own inner child into dissociating from the pain. Instant forgiveness.
Hell no. You must feel the pain. And you do not need to gaslight your mind, body and soul in order to descend into your own abyss. Just hit a brake on those thoughts. Instantly the torment and traumas float up.
The advice given by a young woman here, is harmful because it shuts off the ability to process trauma. When you "ground" yourself with body senses, you are force enabling what neuroscience calls Task-Positive Network. In healthy brains it is mutually exclusive with Default Mode Network, which is what you need in order to process traumas.
"Feeling senses in your body" as in artificially bringing awareness to dormant relaxed body parts is just the same thing as swearing, snacking, scrolling, exercising etc does, any surge of dopamine and any endorphin surge flips off DMN and puts you into TPN. In other words, the "feel your body" is gaslighting manufactured by the spiritual... spiritual industrial complex that wants infinite customers so they can sell damned meditation equipment and other religion related cope.
And i saw a question asked by nikki hours ago. What is the solution to all life's problems? Fixing your abandonment issues. Over 99% of the world lives and sleep walks in their mommy and daddy issues. All swearing, all earworms, all intrusive thoughts, all perversions, all rudeness, and so on, are all results of repressing a part of ourselves. You know how over 90% of people admit to get ear worms and every single week and over 90% of drivers admit to swearing on the road, that is proof that we have massive shadows. Devils in ourselves. We need shadow work. All the meditation bullshit is harmful just like any religions cope, something like 25% of all meditators pussy out and quit because they cannot keep repressing their pain... they thought it is all fun and games but real meditation means STOPPING the internal coping chatter, including the "positive" deliberate cope, and feeling the anxiety, disgust, and rage that these thoughts are trying to distract you from, and then dry-heaving, groaning, howling --- trust me, i was the most silent guy on earth and i started growling loud as fuck, it truly is buried deep within.
That is just my experience. Do your own thinking, be sure not to torment yourself by repeating what does not work. The most well-known psychologist i can recommend is Alice Miller. You will understand that all religions serve to cope with mommy and daddy issues, and egoic illusions must be pierced constantly, it's about learning to pierce them as a default state, not just like a clinical meditation session.
You have to find a quiet space. Close your eyes and try to clear your mind. There are lots of techniques that explain tips and tricks to calm yourself for meditation. Just Google them or whatever you use. I bet you find more than you can possibly read.
It is about finding your inner peace and meditation is something that takes practice like anything. You have to keep at it until you feel like you are finding that peace you are looking for. Likely won't happen on the first try.
You first have to Ground yourself. And call out 5 senses... what you see, what you feel, taste hear and smell
I usually workout. I know that isn't meditation, but after, I am calm and can sit and think quietly.
