Does it really make sense to believe in horoscopes and the stars in today's world?

I wanted to bring up a topic that always gets people talking: astrology, zodiac signs, and the idea that our personality depends on when we were born.

This belief goes way back and has pretty cool roots. Around the 2nd millennium BCE in Mesopotamia, Babylonian priests put together the first records of the stars and planets, convinced that planetary movements were divine messages predicting fate. That practice evolved over time and made it to Ancient Greece, where thinkers and mathematicians like Ptolemy gave a geometric shape to the zodiac we still use today, trying to tie sky cycles to human moods. For centuries, the line between astronomy and astrology was super blurry, and even massive historical intellectuals thought there was a cosmic link between space and human nature.

Nowadays, this trend hasn't just survived, it blow up across pop culture, movies, and social media. Think about how often we hear pre-made labels: in teen movies or TV shows, the cold, calculated, or mysterious character is instantly labeled a Scorpio, while the loud, dramatic, and born-leader type has got to be a Leo. Same goes for celebs and influencers—how many famous actors or singers blame their drama, relationships, or success on their star sign? At this point, asking What's your sign? on a first date has basically become a standard test to see if two people click.

Honestly though, I don't believe in any of this stuff. Our lives, our personalities, our strengths, and our flaws come down entirely to ourselves, our personal experiences, where we grow up, our families and the real choices we make every single day. Trying to boil down human complexity and uniqueness to a star position or a birth month feels super limiting.

Where do you guys stand? Are you low-key obsessed with horoscopes and actually use them in daily life, or is it just a fun, suggestible waste of time? I'm genuinely curious to hear what you all think!

Some of the astrological tropes for my sign are quite befitting. I don’t put a great deal of stock in it beyond coincidence and novelty.
When i moved to California, i was absolutely shocked how many women believe completely. It’s terrifying to think that those dupes are voting.
I have a very open mind, but i’m a natural skeptic. Even though some of the overarching concepts make sense, i don’t think any of it has been substantiated by empirical research.
That said, psychology and sociology are soft sciences and those are the fields that would most likely prove or disprove the veracity of astrology. They’re already pretty squishy as it is. There’s probably a fair bit of crossover between believers. Ell oh ell!

It is the same as every other form of religious belief. It is created by people arbitrarily and has zero predictive power. If someone enjoys and gets value out of believing things that aren't true, good for them.
