They have a 'gothy' aesthetic, which is associated by many people with satanism and the occult. The guy doesn't know that much about the band, he wouldn't know they don't sing about satanism.
My Chemical Romance, aren't they from 2001 25 or more years ago?
I always thought they had a lot of catholic themes and imagery.
My Chemical Romance devil worship My Chemical Romance does not practice devil worship, but the band has frequently played with gothic, occult, and theatrical imagery that has sparked religious controversies and internet viral moments. The Catholic Upbringing and Theatrical ThemesThe members of My Chemical Romance were raised in New Jersey (a heavily Catholic state), and their Catholic roots heavily influenced their art rather than any occult devotion. Albums like The Black Parade explore themes of mortality, sin, and existential guilt. Songs like "Mama" feature provocative lines like "Mama, we all go to hell," which use religious imagery as artistic commentary rather than literal satanism. On forums like Reddit, opinions are mixed among religious fans; some feel discomfort with the dark aesthetic, while a consensus exists among others that the occult and witchy motifs are purely creative expression. The Viral "Demon" AccusationIn August 2025, the band became the target of a throwback-style "Satanic Panic" when a religious TikTok user posted a video claiming frontman Gerard Way had morphed into a "reptilian demon" on stage. The conspiracy theory relied on blurry concert footage and accusations that rock music is inherently demonic. The internet and the fan community (the MCRmy) heavily mocked the claim, joking that Gerard was "a vampire, not a lizard" and celebrating the return of classic rock controversy. The creator of the video later scrambled to apologize and claimed the entire post was just satire.
Finally well at least you catholics act normal you have normal facts unlike some crazy evangelicals.
Still I want that communion thing.
Would be a hate crime.
Stop wasting your time with religious extremists or any extremists, for that matter.
It is the typical holy than thou attitude many of them hold.
Their style probably, 'cuz their music certainly isn't. Christians think EVERY rock/metal musician is demonic
They made that one song about going to hell.
They thought the same about KISS and Alice Cooper in my generation
What the hell are you talking about?
Enough with the Christian bashing already.
How is it a problem? What are you a christian?
Because they are very silly people.
Because it is a shit band.
