Back in the late 1970s, there was a gasoline crisis, as OPEC limited the amount of oil they produced... to keep prices high.

In the United States, to reduce the amount of the limited supplies of gasoline used (there were long lines at the pumps), a nationwide speed limit of 55 mph was imposed (later rescinded), and right-on-red-after-stop laws were passed.

Over time, other countries have passed similar right-on-red laws, or left-on-red-laws for those countries that drive on the left. Let's generically call it a turn-on-red law.

In the United States, right-on-red-after-stop is allowed in most states, typically without a sign telling you it's okay to do it, with some notable exceptions. For example, right-on-red-after-stop is not allowed in New York City... unless there's a (rare) sign saying it's okay.

In Australia, the equivalent left-on-red (Aussies drive on the other side of the road) is only allowed where a sign says it's okay.

Many drivers either do not know the law or don't care. They see turn-on-red allowed and turn without stopping, sometimes creating a dangerous situation for pedestrians and other vehicles.

Was only a matter of time someone from Michigan would say something like that.. within the USA. I don't see how Americans protect themselves when we've integrated hundreds of thousands whom may respond to such a call... good luck to you all. I hope you are one of the fortunate ones.

On the night after the first date, I messaged on dating app “Thank you for a great evening and hope you get home safe. I enjoyed our drinks. 🙂 Would you be up for meeting again?”

She replied the next night “Hello (name)! Yeah got home safe thanks, had a lovely eve :) yeah meeting up again would be cool :)”

I replied the next night “Glad you had a lovely eve and got home safe. 🙂 Cool, I was thinking we could go to South Bank Christmas Market. Might find a mulled wine instead of gin this time 😂. I can do most evenings & weekend next week except Friday and Thursday. Or the week after, I’m free other than (dates) when I’m in away. Let me know what works best for you. :) Did you get your glasto tickets by the way?

No response so after 2 days I messaged on WhatsApp “Hey (name), it’s (name) from Hinge. 🙂 Realised the last 2 digits of your number were the wrong way around. That’s why it didn’t send before. 😂”

She responded the next night”loool oh god were they? How much wine did I have? 😂Well done for figuring it out”

I then responded “Are you sure you’re not an alcoholic? 😂 Tbf, I lost count after the gin - apparently it’s a big thing at markets this year. 😂 Are you still keen on doing it again? 😂 I can do Saturday or Wednesday.”

No response a week later.

I Have moved on - just using this as an example to see if there’s anything I can learn for future dates.

She didn’t respond. I left it 4-5 days. I had got her WhatsApp from the date but the last 2 digits were the wrong way around which I had figured out at this point so I messaged her on whatsapp.
