My fiancé asked me to cook his grandma something in particular for her dinner at 5 PM. Agreeing I said OK and proceed to set an alarm 30 minutes before 5 PM. Not hearing my alarm go off I woke up out of my sleep and woke up hour and a half later. I rushed downstairs to find his grandma and ask if she needed anything or wanted anything. She proceeds to say no and then she didn’t know what she wanted to eat and before I could ask her where this particular food item was, she was already out the door I even looked high and low. A few hours later my fiancé text me stating he asked me to do one thing and basically that he won’t ask me to do anything else.

I apologized immediately because again I understand if he feel like I let him down but on the flipside, don’t make it as if I don’t ever make sacrifices or help when it comes to her when I’ve literally helped him physically carry her inside the house once before. I’m not someone who throws up what they do for people in their face. But you will not sit here and make it seem like I’m not reliable when I’m more reliable than your actual family.

But yet he’s been a disappointment in the relationship. I’ve been promised dates. I’ve been promised get weekend getaways and I haven’t gotten that yet. So he may feel like I let him down in this one situation but I’ve been let down for months now.

Which matters more to you? The destination or the journey you take to get there.

This saying may mean different things to different people.

It can mean that stopping to smell the roses and and enjoy your way to your goals is important.

It can also mean that the little things you do on your journey add up to get you to your destination.

On the other hand, it can also mean that all of life is a journey that never ends. There's only the illusion of there being a destination to reach.

What does it mean to you, and how do you feel about this saying?

I'm inspired by the philosophical alternatives it inspires for different perspectives on what life really means, what we are all doing here, and how we go about it. When I first heard it, what I do in each moment became more important than rushing towards the next goal. No more missing out on all of the little things.

I packed the kids in my car and took a spontaneous trip to join a Rainbow Family Gathering and just breathe, live, relax, and enjoy the here and now.

I no longer had end goals for working out, just learning to enjoy the act of working out and viewing fitness as a side effect of that rather than a goal. Fitness suddenly became a fun habit rather than a chore.

I focused on just enjoying the simplest natural foods rather than dieting. Having a massive bowl of fresh fruits and veggies for breakfast and lunch without any obsession. Just enjoying the taste and look of something healthy for me. Again, my health and fitness became side effects rather than stress ridden goals.

On road trips it became much more common to pause many times along the way. On vacations, winging it on a daily basis became normal.

Big career goals and pushing to work harder and harder became things that either happen or don't based on our own personal enjoyment with our work.

I met this guy on tinder and we got talk and liked each other, we finally decided to see and for a while he wanted to be around me all the time and he wants to cook for me and all, we went grocery shopping together and he even slept at my place but we were not an item (neither did we get intimate) I told him I want to get to know him and not rush into anything and he agreed too. So there was this day I needed to get shoes and he said he wants to go with me and when we got to the shop I picked the two shoes I wanted and he paid and I asked asked if he was ok cause I notice he was a bit different and then we got back home he was mad about the fact that I made him pay for the shoes. I specifically told him I don’t want you to pay yet you went ahead to pay and now you are blaming me? I got so mad cause he was being manipulative but we settled it that night. It became an issue over and over again, he complained of how expensive the shoes are and how he is now broke, so I I decided to cook and invite him to eat since he is broke, but I got tired of him bringing it up so I told him after a long week or two of bringing it up that he should give me his details and I would send the money, he threw his card on my face (landed on my eyes) that I should send the money, I told took his details and I told him to get out and of my house and he was begging but I had to be calm cause he was being violent before he started begging and I was scared, I faked setting with him so I wouldn’t be beat up and we was all lovey dovey before he left my place and then he called days later to have conversations with me and I told him this can’t work cause he is a bit violent and disrespectful with words and then he said “shut the f**k up you dumb bitch* I ended the call and blocked him everywhere, he reached out not long ago that I should pay for the shoes and less I forget I have him on video saying I shouldn’t pay for the shoes that they are gifts before we had the fight.
