Summer is approaching us quickly (in the US anyway) and I thought I'd share some of my favorite summer activities/foods/moments with you guys. So grab your swimsuits and sunblock and get ready to dive into summer, the charismatic way!
Fireworks!
I've always been a huge fan of fireworks. Any chance I have to see them, I'm there! There's just something about being surrounded by friends and family, eyes focused on the sky as it explodes into colors.
Water Ice and Pretzels, Philly's Favorite Combo
There's no better summer combination than a sweet cup of water ice and soft pretzel to dip into it. Cheesesteaks aren't our only areas of expertise. We're also known for these two things here. The Philadelphia Pretzel houses the best pretzels around. There's nothing like sinking your teeth into a fresh, warm, soft pretzel. Now you may thinking "what could top that?" Well that's where water ice comes in. It's a big thing here. There are the chain places such as Rita's and then we have local favorites such as John's and Chuck's. For those of you wondering what water ice is, just think of a slurpee but with a thicker consistency. Kind of like sherbet. People often think of water ice and Italian ice as the same thing. Wrong. Rita's sells Italian ice. It's not as thick as water ice, but more slushy. Either of them goes well with a pretzel though! It's just not summer without them.
Walking The Boardwalk
I remember going down to Wildwood as a kid with my family and going to the beach. Then we'd go back to our hotel, change and hit the boardwalk. I loved walking it. Seeing all the different stores, smelling the smells and just having a good time. After almost drowning in the ocean, the beach part became less fun for me lol. But I still loved the boardwalk. Especially at night. Something about it being all lit up with all the rides. I haven't been back as an adult, but I will never forget it.
Funnel cake
I have a mean sweet tooth and funnel cake is definitely high on the list of summer favorites to cure it. Sure there are places that have funnel cake yearly, but it just doesn't feel authentic unless it's summer. I had my first one during a Wildwood visit and it set the standard. I'll let the pictures do the rest of the talking 😉.
Amusement Park
I have to hit the amusement park at least once every summer. I'm not a huge fan of roller-coasters, but I love going to the water park and playing all the games. If I don't leave with at least 2 stuffed animals, then I've failed lol. I also love how the park looks at night all lit up. Notice a theme? I love bright lights against the night sky!
Tanlines
I think I'm in the minority when it comes to tan lines. I love them. They just scream summer. I love the sun kissed glow that I get in the summer.
Water fights
I'm a big kid when it comes to water fights. I think I enjoy them more than the kids lol. I remember my friends and I randomly filling up a bunch of balloons and having a huge water balloon fight at like 1am. It quickly became a tradition. It's a great way to stay cool while having fun on those hot, summer days.
BBQs
I LOVE BBQ food! The smell, the taste, just everything. BBQ's are huge in my family. I love when we all get together. Once the sun goes down, we have lightening bug parties. It's always good food, comfortable atmosphere and an all around good time. It's not officially summer until the first BBQ!
