During this holiday season with warm hearts I again turn my attention to the migrants from Syria now having surpassed the numbers even of WWII.
I can't help but be reminded of a poem from that era that has always stayed with me as it truly reminds me that we are one.
"First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist.
Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for the Catholics and I did my speak out-
Because I wasn't Catholic
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me." -Martin Niemöller
Please keep this in your mind and in your heart when dealing with the displaced this season.
