I'm tired of everytime I hear the president discussed its always something bad. So I'm doing a take on presidential fun facts.

Nope, He didn't learn English till he went to school. He grew up in a Dutch community in New York and spoke Dutch as his first language, even after learning English he preferred to speak Dutch till he moved to Washington D.C

7. James A. Garfield would have survived his assassination if not for his surgeons

The wound that Garfield had sustained in the assassination attempt was really only about three inches and if just stitched up probably would have healed. However the doctors decided they absolutely had to get the bullet out all all costs and turned it into a much larger and infected wound as they didn't sterilize the instruments. Its generally accepted that the doctors had just as much a hand in his death if not more, than the assassin. At the Assassins trial he defended himself with the line, "The doctors killed Garfield, I merely shot him" However the courts decided otherwise and the assassin was sentenced to death.

President Madison was on the 5000 dollar bill. In one of my favorite books The Long Goodbye by Raymond Chandler. The protagonist Private Detective Phillip Marlowe is paid with a 5000 dollar bill or as he calls it, 'a portrait of Madison' for a favor early in the book and the bill causes him a whole lot of trouble.

10. A would be assassin tried to kill Andrew Jackson but his pistol failed to fire and Andrew Jackson proceeded to beat the man so viciously that the president had to be pulled off of his would be assassin
