If every racial group is having their own graduation wouldn't that inadvertently create a white only graduation since every other race went to their own selective graduation and thus didn't go to the general one which would make only white people going to that one?
I don't see how it's a problem though. It doesn't hurt other people by having this happen in the slightest. Hell I didn't even bother going to my graduation.

I believe it's fine for groups of blacks or Latinos or Asians or whites to get together as groups but I disagree with having a second graduation just for specific races or minorities. The achievement is graduating at one of the top schools in the country, that in itself is a privilege and I feel like they are further segregating themselves. Its like "you can't sit with us" mentality.
Not a lot i can do as an individual to stop institutional, or societal racism. I will keek doing as i have always done, that is to take people as i find them, regardless of race, colour, creed or sex. I despise PCism, and all the isms and ists that surround it.
they will never be taken seriously with this type of behavior. This reminds us that some of them took "black only" affirmative action classes where no work is required to get a passing grade. While this is not true for many of them, it is hard to figure out which you are sitting across the table from in a 1 hour interview.
I don't care, as long as they don't use a penny of the universities money, and they don't bitch and moan when white people, or straight people want one

These things just increase the racial divide. The double standard is what makes it wrong.

I don't think it's the best idea. Was it organized by the university or by The Harvard Black Graduate Student Alliance? If the The Harvard Black Graduate Student Alliance wants to hold a party , I don't object, of course.

I don't think that the university would ever hold something like that just on their own. It was organized by the HBGSA, but of course, it had to be approved by the university.
" Divide & Rule " in action. Yet more focusing on divisions !! This is exactly what the " powers that be " truly want. Divided , hateful , fearful unhappy " societies " are far easier to manipulate & control.
But do they have a "white only" graduation ceremony?

dang hypocrites. Either you're FOR or AGAINST segregation. You can't choose to segregate yourselves and then continue to blame the white people for it. They need to stfu and learn to assimilate with the rest of the graduates.

Yeah, except it's not actually segregation. Segregation is saying no one else can come or participate, but the invite was open to anyone.
oh they must have changed it due to the backlash. when I first heard about it, it was not open invites. Only people of certain colors were invited. of course with the way news is now, who knows if that was true at all. :o still, wtf?
For legal reasons, I don't think a university could sign off on something like this, on campus, in a public space, if it weren't open to everyone, so I firmly believe from the get go this was open to everyone. The students who participated repeatedly said so as well.
It's just plain segregation. Just like blacks being racist against white isn't 'reverse racism', it's just plain racism. If blacks hated other blacks, THEN you could call it reverse racism.
It is. It's not REVERSE segregation. Reverse segregation would be forced integration, like when the National Guard was used to send black kids to a white school, or when someone is added to a group at work just to increase the 'diversity'.
Don't really see what the point is... but sure... whatever makes them happy

Many of those degrees were given as tokens to blacks anyway so perhaps it should be separate. They give them a portion of the degrees since many coukdn't get in otherwise.

I'm pretty sure you have to actually work for your degree and Harvard doesn't just hand them out for showing up to anyone. They aren't exactly picking students with 2.0 GPAs to attend or graduate.
There is a social justice agenda that they have. They will produce black Harvard grads to show they are inclusive even if a white or Asian is more qualified. I worked with a black female harvard grad who was an idiot, a complete idiot. She does not represent them or their standards and Inhave to beleive she isn't representing other black grads from Harvard either. I have met far superior black grads from top tier public schools that would run rings around her. I guess she was an inner city special grad that they needed. They have clearly different standards for blacks as do other schools, their GPA and SAT scores are lower but still acceptable because they are black.

Because let's find more reasons to bring attention to differences in race
This sort of shite promotes racism, and reinforces differences. It highlights all that is so stupidly wrong and divisive about PCism.
So what are you doing to end racism?

damn they must be real geniuses
while I'm struggling to get an 80 on grade 11 math and English
Lmao I'm struggling to graduate
@KingOfAll666 yikes good luck.

I don't really care if certain groups want to have an auxiliary ceremony, as long as they pay for it.
I agree... but also, the fact that the invitation to attend was open to anybody.
This type of event is categorized as reverse segregation.
Ah, technically no.
It's just plain segregation. Just like blacks being racist against white isn't 'reverse racism', it's just plain racism. If blacks hated other blacks, THEN you could call it reverse racism.
How is separating people on the basis of race not segregation?

I think it is ridiculous and will just divide the races.
I think that's really lame. I date both black and white guys, but that shit needs to stop.
A further mark into segregation
I think it's perfectly fine. I also think that there should be a white only graduation. It makes all the sense in the world.
lol, can you imagine the backlash over a white only graduation.
