Our President, the most powerful man in the world, who We, The People of United States, have given the power to kill millions, and whose every word can make or break people, companies, and countries, has spoken; a lie as usual.

Everyone Knows it. Even his own party.

When I first contemplated writing this MyTake, I was concerned. What if Trump didn't tell a lie for a few days? I'd have nothing to write about. While I'm sure that he will eventually go a day without lying, today is not that day.

Yesterday Trump said in a tweet from his verified account:

"I never pushed the Republicans in the House to vote for the Immigration Bill, either GOODLATTE 1 or 2, because it could never have gotten enough Democrats as long as there is the 60 vote threshold. I released many prior to the vote knowing we need more Republicans to win in Nov."

However, last week Trump said in a tweet from his verified account:

Donald J. Trump Verified account @RealDonaldTrump

"HOUSE REPUBLICANS SHOULD PASS THE STRONG BUT FAIR IMMIGRATION BILL, KNOWN AS GOODLATTE II, IN THEIR AFTERNOON VOTE"

This is him, yesterday, lying about what he said last week. Pure Trump.

ONE QUESTION, sir:

Is that tweet saying they should vote for it the *only* thing he did to persuade them to vote that way? And was it in all caps or did you do that for imphasis?

BECAUSE:
Personally. If I was trying to get a bill passed. And I was pushing for people to vote for it. If *all I did* was say they should vote for it. On *one* social media site. I would consider that an *epic* fail of a push.

YES he said they should vote for it.
YES technically that is pushing.
BUT really? On Twitter? One tweet saying they should vote for it? That is the *most* pathetic push I have ever seen-- *if* you can call it a push at all.

So yes. Technically he "lied." But honestly I don't think anyone *seriously* believes that saying one time on Twitter that you should do something is "pushing" you.

So frankly. If this is a lie. It's the most trivial one I've seen so far.

First, yes the CAPS are his. Second, we can debate endlessly whether or not Twitter is "meaningful" and whether that's "pushing" or not.

The fact is Trump routinely uses Twitter to communicate with his followers and with Congress. In fact, on March 13th, Trump used Twitter to fire Rex Tillerson, the Secretary at the State Department, and replace him with Mike Pompeo, the then current director of the CIA. This is only one example of how Trump has used Twitter to conduct high-level governement business.

Also, although this lie hasn't gotten, not will it get, anyone killed, it's one of those lies that no-one can pretend is NOT a lie. Even you had to admit it was a *small* lie. Trump often lies about things that he himself has said, and they are the best examples of his lies because they show his willingness to lie at the drop of a hat.

by the way, your excuse for Trump's lie is a version of the "No True Scotsman" fallacy.

Well you would have to define "pushing" if we want to get into technicalities.

Personally I have never seen Trump lie about anything important. Or really at all that I can think of. At least not to the people. And not purposefully.

I only say this can be considered a lie because the definition of "push" could include any form of asking. Even if it's not pushy at all. And even face to face. If he's not blackmailing or threatening them. Then one time saying "you should vote this." Is not pushy in my opinion.

No I won't forget about this. I said yes. Technically it is a lie. It does count. I never negated that.

But I don't think this has much significance. Because it's just saying "I didn't push" after having said "you should" and honestly I agree with him. I personally do not think that he pushed them.

BUT you're right. That is still a lie. Even if I think it is utterly pathetic form of like and was probably not even intentional. It WAS a lie. I just don't think it was a lie of any IMPORTANCE. That's all.

You have to remember that this is Trumps Daily Lie, not Lie (s). I chose that lie, not because it was the most dangerous or the most significant, or even the nastiest lie. I pointed this one out because it was the most inarguable. My MyTakes will focus on the lies that are hardest to deny, because denial is a hallmark of Trump's supporters.

I agree overall that we should have strong borders, as all countries do, but I see his methods as ridiculous at best and monstrous at worst.

I agree that America should consider America first, but his methods are, again ill-conceived and slipshod.

I find his refusal to provide a pathway toward universal health care to be evil.

His determination to make the rich richer through tax breaks that favor the rich to be dangerous and contributing to oligarchy.

His frequent lies and self-aggrandizement are terrible.

So. What is the attraction? Do you REALLY believe that a rich man, born to wealth (his father was at one point one of the richest men in America) has any compassion for the common man or women?

Why? Universal healthcare isn't and shouldn't be necessary. It is payed for. Nobody is owed healthcare by their government. Personally I find that quite an arrogant was of thinking.

How do his tax breaks favor the rich?

I do not think he does or I cannot see his daily lies. But his attitude is very arrogant and unnecessary sometimes. I agree.
However. His policies are not. So I'll take his less than good speaking skills with his good politics.

Being born rich doesn't mean he doesn't do any work to stay rich. My friend's dad won like a million dollars in the lottery a few decades ago. And you know how long it lasted? Maybe two months...
People who poof get rich don't stay rich for long. Trump is smart. He is a business man. I like his kept word.

You've been polite, so I would like to respond to you politely and give you the information you need to have to recognize that Trump is anything BUT a "man of his word." In fact, most of the money he's made, that wasn't given to him by his way, has been made by breaking his word and failing to pay the small business owners and employees what he owed them. However, IF you actually wanted to know the real Trump, there are more than enough resources on the qeb., So I apologise for not pointing them out to you.

As for what the government OWES the people, I must strongly disagree with you. EVERY OTHER FIRST WORLD COUNTRY provides universal healthcare, and they do so at a fraction of what we in the United States pay.

Perhaps you belive governments don't owe us roads, or schools, or libraries, or postal services... just a military, but I, and the population of all the other first world (and many second world) countries disagree.

What about the countries that don't have roads, or schools, or libraries, or postal services... just a military. Does their government owe them those things? No. It may be trying to give them to it's people. But not because it owes it to them. Because it's *part of* their job. Huge difference.

I am a waiter. It's my job to wait on customers all day long. No matter who. It's my job to serve them.
Dos that mean that I owe them my service? No. I provide it by my choice because I chose this job. And I choose to keep it.

Same with government. It *may be* part of the government's job to provide healthcare and all that stuff. But they do not owe it to us.

To owe someone something implies that they are the rightful owner of it. owing money means they should have the money it is theirs.

Nobody owns healthcare. Nobody else owns a doctor's services. Or the road. Or the post office.

These are services provided by choice through jobs. They are not owed to anyone.

You're just playing with semantics. Substitute "it's government's job" for "owe" and the same thing applies. A waiter who doesn't wait on customers is a bad waiter. A government that refuses to provide health care is a lousy government and should meet the same rate as the lousy waiter.

A job is because it's your job. Owing is because you have to. They own something of yours and you have to pay it to them.

I do not owe the customers my service. Because if I did then I wouldn't be payed for serving them. And it wouldn't be my job. I would have to. Like slavery.

Look. The action *may* be the same with owe or job. But the principle and cause is vastly different. If you owe your boss your services. Or if you work for your boss. That is different.

Democracy means people come together to choose, the outcome is a gamble, the fact that the Democrats lost might be bad, it may not be good for the United States, but you have a reality to live in, you need to start being more optimistic, unfortunately warfare been killing millions since WW1, which proved killing people was a profitable business. What's so amazing about Trump is that while everyone agrees that all polticians lie their asses off, Trump somehow manages to top even that.

The craziest thing about it is that usually politicians try to hide their lies, while Trump just blatantly lies. With other politicians you have to uncover their lies and then you can get them into troubles. Doesn't work often, but it can and does sometimes work. But Trump - you don't need to uncover anything, we have tons of recorded material of him saying one lie after another, on camera, on Twitter. And people just don't care.

We truly live in the post-truth era.

While I am no fan of President Trump and did not vote for him, I shall be more impressed with his critics when they direct as much ire at themselves for the lies told on their behalf as to the lies told by the President. As it is, all we have here is politics drained of any moral seriousness. It is catharsis tarted up as policy, and it accomplishes precious little.

On the immigration issue, to use your example, Democrats voted against a bill that included many of the very things that they had previously voted for. This not to forget, that as former President Obama's Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson admitted, children were being separated from their parents under the Obama Administration.

In fact, since infinite regress is so much fun, let us not forget that it was a liberal Supreme Court that ruled that the internment of Japanese-Americans was just dandy with the Constitution. It was a liberal court, as Alan Dershowitz, a Democrat, pointed out that said forced sterilization of the mentally disabled was just fine. It was a Democrat "who did not have sex with that woman..."

Really, this could go on and on and it will get you nowhere. Oh, and as to "We the People...", "Vox populi, vox humbug." As Edmund Burke put it, "The case for universal suffrage does not rest on any superstition that all men, by acquiring the vote, become equally wise or equally intelligent. It rests, both historically and philosophically, on the belief that if any section of the community is deprived of the ability to vote, then its interests are liable to be neglected and a nexus of grievances is likely to be created which will fester in the body politic."

As to the power to kill millions, it is to be regretted that humanity is imperfect, but in general it was better that power existed to be used against the Axis Powers than had it been reserved to them alone. Pick your poison in an imperfect world.

The selective outrage is tiresome and leads to no useful outcome. As the old Biblical saw has it, "Let he who has not sinned cast the first stone." If President Trump avails himself of lies more or less frequently than his predecessors and critics is really of no account. A better response than foot stomping is better policies and a more temperate tone.

The fact that President Trump's critics seem more to wallow in outrage against his words - true or not - than in developing a thoughtful response to them is the starting point of their problems. Physician, heal thyself.
