I (female) was in an abusive relationship turned marriage from 18 to 23. Within 6 months of leaving said relationship, I was assaulted. In less than a month, I became a statistic, a fugitive and a "survivor", or in some cases a "victim."
And then I became informed, and sickened.
There is no good starting point to the information that leads to an inevitable conclusion...What led me here was absolute confusion. I look back on my life and I cannot figure out how and why I would be with a man that was so clearly wrong for me. I literally felt CRAZY, I felt like my brain was foggy and I felt very alone, because all I wanted was to believe in love and I thought I had found a man that loved me, for me.
I got an IUD (with horomones) at age 18 because my mom, who hated kids and told my brother & I that constantly, made me not want kids, EVER. I thought I was being smart, taking control of my body.
At the time, no doctors informed me that: 1) hormonal birth control is DANGEROUS for MULTIPLE reasons, with the number one fact being it changes a woman's olfactory system (sense of smell) to the point where SHE CANNOT CHOOSE A CORRECT MATE, therefore choosing mates that are genetically similar to her, which could lead to complicated future pregnancies, deformed/immunocompromised children or death. Women are drawn to "family men", or men who seem to be a provider of safety, while they are pregnant OR on birth control that MIMICS pregnancy. Caregivers, "daddys". It's been proven, and sometimes medically advised, that when women go off birth control before getting married they find they are incompatible with their mate. Animals have been studied, when males are confused by the smells of horomone-laden-not-pregnant female animals, they attempt rape in desperation. Over 100 MILLION women are on some sort of hormonal birth control. 2) the changes in your horomones will effect your sleep, your mood to the point of major up and down swings, your diet, your metabolism and the ability to correctly read and interpret other people's emotions. If someone has anger/contempt towards you, it will be harder to detect. 3) ALL FORMS of horomone birth control can increase risk of clots, strokes, nausea and SUDDEN DEATH. Women of color may experience an increase in hyperpigmentation.
Many women are prescibed birth control for unmanageable periods or acne and hardly any of them are informed that they are risking choosing the wrong partner, which could lead to relationship discord...to the point of abuse?
So you take in all this information, which is now all over the internet BUT NOWHERE IN A DOCTORS OFFICE OR PLANNED PARENTHOOD OFFICE, and you relaize all of a sudden there are potentially MILLIONS of people affected by this, including children. Type in "birth control" into Google and click "News", and articles from three weeks ago are screaming: "birth control may be shrinking hypothalamus!" (coordinates both the autonomic nervous system and the activity of the pituitary, controlling body temperature, thirst, hunger, and other homeostatic systems, and involved in sleep and emotional activity), or type in "birth control and death," and you see multiple articles of young women aged 18-24 dying from the magic pill.
And the only solution is to either get non-horomonal birth control for women or get men to wear condoms... .
Next scoop of information. It is practically undisputed that the human brain does not reach a sort of "adult level" until age 25. So you have thousands of young women, like me, who are on horomone birth control in order to "do their part" and be responsible, yet their under-developed and now very confused, horomone laden brains are unleashed to the adult world. Most abusive relationships for both genders occur between the ages of 18-24. This is causing a quiet crisis in men as well! Men are now overhwhelmed with women who are not properly ovulating, therefore women are biologically less attractive to men and men pursue other women who, at the peak of fertility, come off as more attractive. In long term relationships, this can cause men to pick a women to settle down with, but if she is on birth control, the man might be driven biollgically to have sex with a fertile, regulary cycling woman because he is unwittingly more attracted to her, drawn to procreate. It's also been studied that men find themselves less attractive when they are with women on long term birth control, leading to possible subconscious acts that refelct a hidden, misunderstood depletion in self confidence for both the man and woman.
Its the quiet cycle of abuse.
Drill into the heads of everyone that preventing pregancy falls mostly into the hands of the "baby maker", aka the women, then tell said women the BEST way to prevent pregnancy is to take a magic "pill", one that "might make you gain weight", but is otherwise "harmless." Then when you see relationships going off the rails, high rates of birth defects/deficiencies and domestic violence and wonder, "how can this still be going on?" Well, the answer may lie in the vicious circle society is trapped in. With sexual freedom comes very, very grave responsibility.
This is new to the WHOLE ENTIRE HUMAN RACE. Never before have humans altered ourselves on a genetic level, especially so young. What are the ripple effects? Are more people in more dysfunctional relationships than ever? Are women being unwittingly led to change themselves biologically without realizing potential danger? Is this destabilizing society slowly but surely, leading us into very new, dangerous territory?
Yes. Absolutely yes.
More than ever, we need to start asking what humans are, how we function at a deeper level, and ways to move forward to better the lives of those after us. My mother didn't give me any additional sex ed, she didn't teach me about dating, she didn't tell me the full scope of how birth control changes a woman. Please, please for all the beautiful, young and strong women coming up today, please give them the power of information. Really let them know and understand the power and beauty of the human body, men and women, and the science-based FACTS, facts we cannot change, biological and genetic so they can make the absolute best choice for themselves.
I am going to be pursuing this until the bitter end. I am going for lawsuits, litigation, changes, help for young women and hopefully better education. I believe every woman has the right to choose what she wants with her body, but she better have the equal chance for a full education on the options available and it's impact on the rest of her life. I will potentially never know if I wasn't on birth control, if I would have run screaming from my ex because my body, my "women's intuition", would have been functioning at it's strongest and healthiest. I can hardly sleep at night, wondering if thd same is true for many, many other women who may have the same fate as I, or sadly worse. We see Big Pharma facing pressure with the opiod crisis. Well now is the time for the Birth Control crisis. Misleading young people into playing with biology while making BILLIONS of dollars off of them is absolutely sickening.
I am off horomone birth control today, and now every morning I take in a breath of fresh air, and even the smell of stale dog crap does little to diminish my hope for a better future, one where I am fully aware and in control of my body, and finally safe.
