5 Elaborate Hoaxes That fooled The World

In the excitement of new discoveries evolutionists and scientists are conveniently blinded by their belief in a theory that the most eminent minds are fooled into believing elaborate hoaxes. Even in an era with unsurpassed technological advances, fraud in science continues to invade deep into the ranks of esteemed institutions. It illustrates the problem that the theory becomes more important than the evidence.

1 ) Cardiff Giant

5 Elaborate Hoaxes That fooled The World

In October 1869, workers were digging a well behind the barn of William C. Newell in Cardiff, New York.As they were digging they unearthed the body of an ancient 10-foot-tall stone man - eventually dubbed the Cardiff Giant. Prof. O.C. Marsh , of Yale, exposed the Cardiff Giant as an elaborate fraud . He noticed crevices ink and sulfuric acid hadn't reached fresh tool marks near worn surfaces. Further evidence added was the fact that gypsum is water-soluble. This meant the giant could not have survived more than a few years in the ground of Newell’s farm, which had several underground streams.Chisel marks were still plainly visible on it,but these should have worn away if the giant had been underground for any appreciable length of time. Also, geologists stated that there was no good reason to try to dig a well in the exact spot the giant had been found. The mastermind behind scheme was an enterprising New York tobacconist named George Hull - cousin of William C. Newell.Hull decided to fool the world after a theological debate with a preacher. Hull was a staunch atheist ,and was annoyed by the preacher’s belief in the bible ,especially a passage from the book of Genesis 6:4, where it says, "There were giants in the earth in those days."( nephilim giants) -(KJ version ) Various stains and acids were used to make the giant appear aged ,eroded and weathered. The giant's surface was beaten with steel knitting needles embedded in a board to replicate skin pores.Newell and the workmen all had agreed to help with the scheme , and to keep it a secret in exchange for a piece of the profits. After months of work, the statue was transported to the farm of Hulls cousin, William Newell. They buried the statue near Newell’s barn, wedging it under roots to create the illusion that it had rested beneath the dirt for centuries. They planned to have it dug up one year later. Many theologians and preachers defended its authenticity until Hull,Newell and the workmen confessed that the Cardiff Giant was in fact a hoax

2 ) The Archaeoraptor

5 Elaborate Hoaxes That fooled The World

The Archaeoraptor fossil was discovered in 1999 at Xiasanjiazi in China’s northeastern Liaoning Province.Embedded in stone were the fossilized bones of an extraordinary prehistoric animal, with the complex limbs of a prototype bird , and the distinctive tail of an earth-bound dromaeosaur , it also seemed to have feathers - It looked like a dinosaur that could fly. Scientists and evolutionists believed it demonstrated the evolutionary connection between birds and other theropods. It was the missing link which proved that modern birds are descendants of carnivorous dinosaurs. A doubtful investigative reporter did some background research, that unearthed the truth behind the Archaeoraptor fossil . It was discovered that farmers in China had developed a profitable hobby of selling the fossils they discovered. They doctored the fossils to follow basic market economics to increase the value of their discoveries. They created many forgeries, one being the Archaeoraptor fossil. Scientists used new high-resolution X-ray computed tomography ,that exposed the Archaeoraptor fossil to be a forgery. They concurred that the fossil forgery was built in three layers. It represented two or more species, and that it was assembled from at least two, and possibly five, separate specimens. Scientists proved that the Archaeoraptors was made up of the head and body of a primitive bird glued to the hind limbs and tail of a non-flying dromaeosauridae dinosaur fossil

3 ) Loch Ness Monster

5 Elaborate Hoaxes That fooled The World

The above photo was taken in 1934 ,by a doctor named Robert Kenneth Wilson . He claimed that he saw the Loch Ness monster early one the morning while driving along the northern shore of Loch Ness, in the Scottish Highlands. In 1994, a man named Christian Spurling, confessed to his involvement in a plot to create the most famous Nessie photo . He revealed it was a plot that involved both his stepfather, Marmaduke Wetherell and his friend, Robert Wilson. According to Spurling, Wetherell was said to have initially come up with the hoax ,because he was humiliated by his previous attempt at finding the Loch Ness monster. Wetherell approached Spurling and asked him to make a convincing serpent model. Spurling did this by using a toy submarine fitted with a sea-serpent head. This model was then photographed in Loch Ness. The picture was then given to Wilson, whose job it was to convince the world that Nessie existed. Wilson was given the photo because he was a trusted man, being a doctor. So he'd serve as a credible front-man.

4 ) Piltdown Man

In 1912 Charles Dawson, an amateur Archaeologist and Solicitor claimed to have discovered the missing link between ape and man. He unearthed part of a human-like skull in Pleistocene gravel beds in Piltdown village, Sussex, England. The specimen had the jawbone of an ape, but the cranium of a human. Scientists were fooled for 40 years ,but Dr. Kenneth Page Oakley, Geologist at the Natural History Museum, Sir Wilfrid Edward Le Gros Clark and Joseph Weiner gathered evidence using modern science to expose Dawson's Piltdown man as a forgery. They discovered the skull was a composite of three distinct species, composed of a medieval skull, the jawbone of an orangutan and the teeth of a chimpanzee. The jawbone was only a few decades old,and had been artificially stained. A microscopic examination revealed there was file-marks on the teeth . The teeth had been modified to a shape, so they could have been associated with the jaw of a primitive man. They'd been pared down so they were more suited to a human diet.To create the appearance of age the bones were stained with an iron solution and chromic acid. Scans of the bones reveal the same dental putty was used throughout the specimen to reconstruct the human bones and to piece orangutan remains onto them. The putty was also used to load the bones and teeth with gravel from Piltdown to make them look more authentic.Using a fluorine-based test to date the skull, it was determined that the upper skull was human of approximately 50,000 years old ,this eliminated the possibility of the Piltdown Man being the missing link between humans and apes as at this point in time humans had already developed into their Homo sapiens form.

5) Cottingley Fairies

5 Elaborate Hoaxes That fooled The World

In 1917 two young cousins ,Elsie Wright and Frances Griffiths, living in Cottingley, England, had taken photos depicting themselves interacting with fairies. This eventually became public knowledge, and the girls fooled many scientists ,and they even fooled Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (author of Sherlock Holmes). He vouched for their authenticity by writing an article for a leading magazine claiming that they were authentic. He viewed the photos as clear proof of the existence of fairies. However , in the early 1980s Elsie and Frances admitted that the photographs were fakes. They'd copied illustrations of dancing girls from a popular children's book of the time, Princess Mary's Gift Book, published in 1914. They created cardboard cutouts of the dancers and drew wings on them. They then supported them with hatpins, disposing of their props in the beck once the photograph had been taken.
