Why do some people keep friends separate from others?

I have always introduced friends to each other. I always would arrange get togethers, I figured if I got on with someone that other friends would get along too.

I have a couple of friends who keep freinds separate from each other, they never invite us out together.
I have one friend in particular that most of her friends she met becuase of me, I met her in college and always invited her out to meet my friends I had made years before college and she got along with them too and it was a lot of fun.

Now she has made a couple of friends through 2 of her ex boyfriends and see's them on their a lot but never invites anyone else! I have met one of them twice and they seem nice and we would get on. But no one else has met her and none of us get invited out with them.

Why do people do this?

Each friend group is like a dish; I keep them separate because if they mix the taste would be horrible. I stop introducing my females friends the most since my guys friends would be like hey, can I have her number or she hot does she have a boyfriend. I like them since I hang with them for certain reasons and don't want to be there hook up secretary, lol.

There also seem to be this jealous them when I get them together; some would just get quite while others will get flirty or talking shit about me. Took me sometime to figure out they were and not joking; I cut them out without hesitant because you see that guy he also likes baseball.

Some people like to keep their lives compartmentalized. They like spending more one-on-one time with a particular friend or group of friends and don't want to feel like a social coordinator.

Well sometimes you have different friends. Like the girl you bring to the club, isn't always the friend you bring your book club. Not to say she's not smart, but it may not be her scene.
Plus there's the annoying girl who you only hang out with for a good time, but not all the time. When you go to a rave she's your girl, but at 2:00 on a Sunday she'll annoy the hell out of you and your friends, so you keep them separate. It's not weird at all. Some people have different personalities that you know will clash, so you don't try to force them together.

I prefer keeping friends separate. I'm a complex person, and certain friends tailor to different aspects of my personality - hence they won't be compatible. Unfortunately, some friends don't understand that and have taken it personally.
