2.8K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. There's a big difference here your not focusing on
1. being a nun is not forced upon an entire country on average
2. Hijab is specifically created to keep 'so called' men that can't keep their eyes off the women
3. its very rare to see nuns just roaming around in the streets. I've never seen even one nun my entire life working at a bank
4. Hijab women want to incorporate themselves in society but also look down on men like the whole world is like back at home, where we need to have women covered So we don't look at them. Ok lol
Strange is that I tend to look more towards a hijab women :/ lol so it's not working. It works in muslims countries. But not really anywhere else
Hummmm make sense sort of?518 Reply- +1 y
Mainly hijab is something that is very much a culture thing now. I know so many muslims. And many are told to wear it. Of course lots don't for their own reasons.
I can honeslty say I don't know even one family that has been forced to dress like a nun vs maybe 20 muslims if met wheres it's been shoved down their throats at some point in time
Huge differences there bud lol - +1 y
I bet you never picked up a quran yes in these middle eastern countries they force women to wear the hjabs, niqabs, and hjabs but not in all of them they don't force you to wear those in Iraq I have seen plenty of women roaming the streets in Iraq who don't wear hjbas, niqabs, or burkas they don't wear any of that its ignorance of people who think that way.
- +1 y
Oh I know plenty about the Quran, like I said I have a lot of Muslim friends. Anyone who's read the Quran can easily see where the violence comes from and where the 1 up for men and 1 down for women comes from. It's very clear to me. Maybe your reading a different book, but it's clear as day to me why it's like that
Don't give me examples of the minority, I'm talking about averages. On average the hijab is shoved down their throats my a mile more than anyone is forced to be a nun
That's what the focus is, not the fact that some don't wear it. Obviously some don't - +1 y
So what
how about we go to Lebanon Beirut, now we got girls dressed in bikinis and going to clubs drinking and chilling.
Again Im talking about the 'whole' and on 'Average' lol, in other words, in general. Im not talking about one dimensional arguments where you see a portion of your women not covered. Im talking about the culture as a whole
And yes because of course its more now then before, women are getting sick and tired of this male dominated society, there showing their worth and independence by reducing the need for hijabs. - +1 y
But Lets not forget we still easily see women covered and clearly its wrong. for example
Last summer in the dead of the heat plus 30, I saw a couple and the women was covered in a niqab. She was eating up lifting up her vail and putting it back down (in public). While her husband was sitting there shirt unbutton and his balls literally hanging out of his shorts. And I'm sure if she refused to wear the niqab, he would make her wear it EVEN though he's sitting there balls out enjoying the air touch up his nuts
Like cmon, if you know what I mean
I haven't seen a nun thats ordered to wear her clothes if she doesn't want to be a nun by choice. And she probably doesn't wear those clothes everywhere she goes - +1 y
because to be honest, no one really chooses that... They only have two options
1. Wear it and do not be patronized by your own kind (not everyone is strong and wants to fight things)
2. dont wear it and be torn down by others for not wearing it
So yea I agree they choose it, but its the lessor evil out of the two there choosing
IM bet my marbles on it, if they had a 3rd option saying, don't wear it with zero repercussions, Im pretty sure 90% would reject it at the age of 12 before they get use to it - +1 y
I live in America now and my mom chooses to wear a hjba no one is forcing her not at all she believes 100% that it is the right thing to do and my dad, siblings, no one tells her she has to wear it she chooses it on her own. If we limit people wearing one thing then I guarantee you the government will start limiting people to not wear other things.
- +1 y
Its like how a lot of guys say a girl at work was asking to get hit on when she was wearing more revealing clothing so either way people will judge you, but that doesn't mean that girl or woman was asking to be hit on just based off the clothes she was wearing. So if we give in to one thing people will start giving into more things.
- +1 y
Yea but everyone says that
If your use to something, eventually it feels like it's your choice. Humans are creatures of habit and there comfortable with what they know. Your family wears it and is comfortable with it because it's what they have grown up with
My friends mom still talks about the way they use to cook pizza when she was little, she still does it the same way every single time
A drug addict eventually thinks he needs the drug and can't function without it. A smoker things it's taking away their stress so it's helping them
That's why I said, if you read carefully, if a women could reject it at age 6 or age 12 they would not grow up 'thinking' it's their choice. There simply accustomed to it so yea obviously at that point, it has now become their choice for sure - +1 y
People judge because it's a normal human reaction. We judge most things due to limited information we have so we make a prejudgment based on what we can
And I agree it's wrong to not allow people to wear the hijab. Where I live they did the same thing for professional areas and it caused a big thing. I didn't think it was right for doctors nurses, teachers or anyone to not be allowed to express their religious believes in any environment.
At the same time, there's a reason to it, I guess but I don't think it makes much sense to be honest - +1 y
Of course I don't want. And that exactly where I was getting at
Most of these women that want to wear it are controlled from a society of years and years of people telling them they must. Otherwise think about it where do people learn to cover themselves from, why do people wear shoes? Why do women wear bras? Why do we cover our Genitles. Simply because that's just how it is around us, "it's what we're born into" so it seems natural
Same with muslims, there born into that environment so to them it's natural. doesn't mean they actually want to
I don't think young girls in North America like to be looked at as different, they hate it some tell me. And some are ok with it. But not everyone
So of course I'm ok with them wearing it JUST if you dig a little deeper as to why women are ok with it
coming to a full circle, its the same reason why we decide to wear a shirt in public, social influence
But yes I agree completely, they should be allowed to wear there hijab anywhere

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the whole idea of the Burka is to give men nothing to look at, right? To *avoid* drawing attention to yourself? In the west, when you're walking through a store among hundreds of other people and you're the only one dressed up like Darth Vader, you're going to draw *more* attention to yourself, not less.
Besides, to my understanding, Islam doesn't even call for wearing anything as concealing as the Burka. The Hijab draws far less attention by comparison. It's much less obtrusive. What it comes down to is "when in Rome, live as the Romans do."03 Reply- +1 y
Wearing something which is out-of-place in whatever culture you've made a home in is naturally going to draw more attention. I never said they couldn't wear it, I'm simply saying it's inevitably going to draw funny looks simply for being different.
People in the west hear news stories about acid attacks in Iran and Afghanistan when women don't dress up to code. When it's seen here, the immediate assumption among westerners is that she's being forced to dress that way by the men in her life. We don't often hear the reasoning as to why a woman would choose to dress that way by themselves.
No, it's not offensive at all. In fact, it's true.
In class last week, my world history class had a discussion about this. Being in the class I'm in, there was more than a few idiots who were gung-ho about how oppressive they were (I know there are anti-Muslim people everywhere, but it seems like my school makes up the brunt of them 😒) when my teacher brought up the nuns, they swore up and down it was different. I asked how it was different, and they of coarse didn't really have an answer, but just insisted it wasn't the same.
I've never seen a teacher more dissapapointed in my life.16 Reply- +1 y
Correct me if I am wrong, but the possible difference is that nuns elect themselves to that lifestyle i. e. they choose for themselves whether or not to enter into a convent. Although the choice may be the same for Muslim women in Western countries, I am not sure those same women, if they lived in a very conservative Muslim state would have the same choice.

I am from Iraq @juliaanita and there are plenty of women over there who don't cover themselves at all wearing a hjab, niqab, or burka.
- +1 y
I stand corrected. sorry.

@juliaanita the media has definitely brainwashed you in this department than I mean I don't know what else to say.

again, my apologies
I find that it IS different, Nuns wear habits because catholic canon law requires that they be able to be recognized as a religious.
The primary reason i can find for the wearing of the Hjab, is to de-emphasis sexuality, so as to prevent molestation, while habits can do the same, that is not the primary goal...
NOTE: i may be wrong, so if i am, please respectfully let me know33 Reply- +1 y
I actually didn't know that way why nuns wore the habbit thanks for telling me. Yes in the hadiths it does tell women to cover up, but you can't punish them for doing it in real sharia law which is in the hadiths it is the majority of people in middle eastern countries who impose those laws cause they are anti-feminists.

i actually have nothing against the Hijab, i see it as the same thing as wearing a cross necklace actually, just a sign of religion, though i do have an issue with the burka, but only for practical reasons, such as heat, as wet heat would be harmful in them, and dry heat would not... and you are welcome, i wish everyone was as open minded as you :)

not everyone is against that. in fact, most are just against them being muslim. the hijab just causes them to be noticed as muslim.11 Reply

+1 yObviously its to piss off the Muslim community and give them more reasons to hate the west and america. Why else would you make a big deal about something so meaningless.
It should be noted the Muslim community in america is well intergrated, well educated and well employed much more so Than their European counterpart's10 Reply
+1 ySorry to start off with a correction but since we're talking about cultural insensitivity i feel i must, nuns wear habits not burqas. The difference is one of choice nuns aren't raised in a oppressive culture that tells them they have to act a certain way or wear certain clothing. If they so choose they are allowed to leave the sisterhood and *shock* even refuse a request from someone with a penis as well as come and go as they please without a male escort.
01 ReplyCatholic nuns do not wear bukas, they do not cover their faces. While a few Muslims, wear niqabs and burkas to cover their faces. The main issue is the covering of the face; therefore hijabs are not a problem.
by the way there are some musim countries that have banned the burqa and the niqab.010 Reply- +1 y

Would you feel comfortable having someone, whose face is fully covered around you? I'm not saying it should be banned but I can understand why someone would be apprehensive about it. Now in terms of passports, photo identification it should be a requirement to show your face. - +1 y
Yes and they follow the rules when having to get their drivers license and everything so there should be no problem with what someone wears in America you have the right to wear those clothes its not illegal and its no hurting anyone https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JSIjfnpPCsg

Well in Canada this happened...
www.cbc.ca/.../...ll-be-appealed-pm-says-1.2955418
It's always an issue, because they're are those that wear the burqa and niqab that refuse to identify themselves in court, refuse to show their faces in the citizenship ceremony, and this is what causes the hatred against those that wear them. To think that they do not want to integrate into Canadian society. No other religion, or people's are causing as much commotion in western society as Islam.
+1 yI don't see a real problem with how they are dressed, it is a part of them.
I know a few Muslims who are extremely nice, never heard them say anything bad about anyone. They are a lot more nicer than some hard core Christians I know.10 Reply1.) It's alienating. It's a pure sign of foreign culture and lack of desire to integrate.
2.) Numbers. Do you often see nuns outside of a church area? I don't remember when I saw nun last time to begin with.
3.) Those full body veils can be used as a tool for criminals to walk around in public without being identified (since you can't see their face). If I can think about it, criminals can as well.23 Reply- 1.3K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic.

why some women should be ashamed of their face?02 Reply- +1 y
