Because people are ignorant AF and love to act like they're experts on something that they're just judging by it's bad reputations, people just love to go by association, whether it's by race, gender, sexuality, etc.
Yeah, I get it, in some Islamic countries women don't get much rights and are forced to wear that and even the Niqab sometimes, but not everyone is.
My own family are Muslim and my sister and Mum wear it due to their own choice, no one is forcing them to do anything.
I get that some interpretations of religion view it as mandatory, but doesn't Christianity view sex before marriage as a sin and yet how many Christians does that stop - to what extent a person follows their own religion is their own choice and not all interpretations say the hijab is mandatory e. g. many Quranists don't and I went from a Sunni Muslim, to a Quranist, before leaving and becoming an agnostic, which I still currently am.
Whilst I do myself come from a Muslim family, I openly left the religion about half through 2017 and I'm pretty sure I'm not dead, I didn't get disowned and I still live with my family and they don't treat me any differently than anyone else.

Due to being raised a Muslim, I can definitely say that Islam does depend on how one interprets it, so not everyone believes in this violent BS, oppressing women, etc, at least not to the extent that some think and based on what I've read in the Quran (supposed to be the primary source of Islam), back when I were a Quranist, I found killing apostates to be against the Quran, stoning to death is only mentioned as something prophets were threatened with, fighting is only during wars, which only apply in self defense and the Quran tells you not to 'sit with such evil people, until they change the subject', as in people who commit blasphemy.
The Hadiths are the main issue TBH, I mean people tend to attack Muhammed when they think Islam is bad, as Muslims are supposed to follow his example and the Hadiths are where it tells you to stone adulterers to death, kill apostates, etc.
However, the Quran is supposed to be the primary source of TRADITIONAL Islam, whilst the Hadiths are the secondary sources, so I don't see how the secondary sources can contradict the primary source, at least in topics the Quran already covers, especially when not all the secondary sources are considered authentic, with some even contradicting each other, so if you reject the bad ones, deeming them to be unauthentic, then that's at least no where near as bad as the 'radical thugs'.
People can question whether or not the peaceful Muslims are following the religion properly, but don't forget, there's not different Muslim sects for nothing and everyone thinks they're right, with some traditional ones thinking, the none-traditional ones, aren't true believers, etc.

To answer your question. I am a Muslim (fully believing and practicing, but i ain't nothing close to a saint just saying) and lived in United Arab Emirates, Syria, and a little bit in Lebanon and Jordan for a total of 18yrs. Most women will wear hijab as a choice. However, there are also a minority of them that did NOT choose to wear hijab. Some rather strict parents (usually the father) will habituate the baby daughter to wear Hijab at young age like 5 yr old or so. And so the daughter grows up having gotten used to wearing Hijab. Now... people are different and some will grow up and be religious in their heart and some will not. That being said, there will be a lot of non-religious Muslim girls who wear the Hijab just cause they got used to it and most importantly cause they fear taking it off because of what people will say (friends and people who know her will look badly at her if she decides to take it off and some people will scold her especially her parents). So. Especially here in Canada, I've seen a bunch of "Hijabi" girls who once they leave the house will take the Hijab off. And when they are about to return home will put it back ON. I also saw Hijabi girls who will literally drink and have SEX outside and they dont care that they are wearing Hijab (i was seeing a girl who was like that). And this whole thing disturbs me to many degrees. Non-religious girls should NOT wear Hijab if they are going to do bad things outside as they will give bad name and bad examples to what they "represent".
Anyway so yeah. Most girls are not forced. But some of them kinda are cause of strict parents doing it wrong.

Even if a hijab has oppressive meaning, a woman still can wear it by choice although it depends on the country. I dont care if a person want to be oppressed by choice. My problem with it is that many muslim women in iran and other islamic countries are forced to wear it or many of them are pressured to wear it including me. Only lucky muslim women with modern/open minded family in western countries where their rights are protected can really choose. I know many muslim women who says that they wear by choice but as soon as they take it off they get so much hate by their muslim community. You can search any muslim girl's youtube video about taking hijab off and can see the dislike/like ratio and hate comments. By the way if you live in countries such as austria, germany etc you have to understand thst such countries ban nazi sympols, ultra nationalistic symbols of foreign countries, racist, sexist symbols etc. So if hijap has opressive sympol it may be banned in such countries but it would not make sense and it would be hypocritical to ban hijab in america since there is a unlimited freedom of speech and i dont know any symbols that is forbidden in america. I personally think kids should not be forced/pressured to follow any religion/political idealogy/life styles such as veganism etc.

Most don't. I think everyone knows this is an issue of choice. In some Muslim societies, women are forced to wear the hijab. They are denied the right of deciding if they want to or not. In Western societies, the claim is made that forbidding the hijab is about freeing women. But it isn't. It is about control. They want control over what Muslim women can choose to do. Because again, Muslim women are denied the choice.
It reminds me of when Halle Berry played in Monster's Ball and did that graphic sex scene. Many in the "Black" community were upset that she would do that scene with Billy Bob Thornton, a "White" man. Halle Berry made the point, it was her body and her choice. That the struggle for "Black" women in America has always been about whether or not they could choose to be sexy, wear sexy clothes or not. "Black" women simply wanted the same choice that other women had. The choice over whom they choose to have sex with. That choice was taken away in slavery, Jim Crow, etc.
And she did the movie because she wanted to show herself and everyone else that she could choose.
But racism isn't all that deep.

the vast majority of people do not care what others wear (I donāt like the burkha as I do see that as too controlling, but thatās me)
now the biggest group that comment on these codes are actually Muslims themselves, as depending on where they are from, personal history etc, they all have different views, which are valid as I am simply outside looking in.

So if you went back 10 years in Turkey, then yes women were oppressed for wearing head coverings as they could not hold civil positions, education, military etc.

i personally haven't met one as a friend type of way, where i live here in England.
i haven't met one that seemed interested in wanting to spend time with, who was attracted in me and who was interested in me romantically.

Hey, Iām a Muslim girl who wears the hijab- so hopefully Iāll be able to give you and anyone reading this, an insight into the hijab. So Islamically is wearing the hijab a choice for women? It depends what you mean by āchoice.ā Choice could mean something that Islamically isnāt mandatory but itās good if you do, or āchoiceā could mean does she decide to wear the hijab herself or is she forced by another person to wear it? Wearing the hijab in Islam, is not optional- itās a religious obligation. As Muslims we have obligatory acts such as praying 5 times a day, not drinking alcohol, fasting in Ramadan, and much more, and then we have optional acts- these arenāt mandatory but itās good if a Muslim does them, like extra prayers after the obligatory prayers, fasting on Mondays and Thursdays, praying Tahajjud (the night prayer). And wearing the hijab is something that is an obligatory act, after a girl has hit puberty.
Because they don't know any Muslim woman in real life yet they love talking in our names and think we're children in need of a white knight to save us.

I could honestly be wrong about this but a friend told me the concept of wearing loose clothing and hijabs came after a lot of women were sexually assaulted at night when they went to do their business outside. Basically, by dressing the same, no one would be able to figure out who was a slave and who was a free women or a women of nobility making it equal for anyone to testify against the one that caused them harm.
Muslim women have always been granted opportunity to inherit wealth, seek education, find suitable mates, and own property LONG before modern age. Being oppressed and refused to do basic thing is a cultural practice rather than a religious one.
Some are by choice mostly in western countries it is a choice thing. But in the east not so much. There it can be forced. Girls have legit been killed for no wearing them so...
Also the idea behind it is sexist ideology in the first place, even if a woman wants to wear one fair enough but the ideology of women only wear these and men don't is a double standard that is clearly sexist.

Its western culture clashing wirh middle eastern culture
Western culture encourages women to show off their hair. Women take their hair very seriously and want to show it off in western culture. So it's extremely strange to westerners to see someone choose to conceal their hair. We can't rationalize it. The only way we can rationalize it is "huh I guess someone made her wear it cuz we know she wants to show off her hairstyles"
When in middle eastern culture its a religious thing and hijabs are fashion statements the way hair is a fashion statement here. It's just two different perspectives that either side has trouble understanding.

Ignorance mostly. It's a matter of choice, and to wear religious attire in the face of prejudice can be an admirable act.
However, there is tendency for some to think that because most women in the middle east want to wear it, that somehow there's no political repression for Muslim women in the middle east. There definitely still is. If you ask a woman if she wants to wear it in Saudi Arabia, she will certainly say yes. But what about the women who choose not to, or would like to remove it? We must judge oppression by the desires of the minority, not the majority.
Because people fear what they donāt understand. Here in the UK itās mainly old white people who hate Muslims and want them gone. They make excuses, calling it threatening and scary. Sorry, werenāt you the same people educated by Nuns at school? Hmmm.
Because it is. Religion is all man made nonsense. In the case of Islam, it was obviously a group of selfish and manipulative men that decided they didn't want anyone outside of their cult to see their womens beauty. How can you condemn peoples birthday suit? We came into the world naked and clothes are man made. How can anyone believe it's immoral to show your beauty? That belief stems from serious indoctrination. And they use fear to keep people from leaving the religion. Saying if you remove the hijab or burqa or whatever, you go to hell. In the east, many muslim communities have serious consquences for apostasy.
