My roommate recently told me that I was very motherly and I'm not sure how to take it. I thought he had a crush on me but after comparing me to his mother I'm not sure what to think of it.
What does it mean when a guy says you are motherly?
Guys inconsciously look for qualities that their mom had. or at least the good qualities. Because we liked the way we felt when our mom would care for us or sitck up for us. It sounds childish but its true. Yes he could still very much have a crush on you. Normally when a guy tells you that ur mootherly type, that's a compliment no matter who you are. It means that ur caring, loving, friendly ...and so on. A lot of good adjectives. So if you don't like this guy any more than roomate/friend just tak it as a compliment. If you do though, ur in the green for starting something up with him.

First of all, why would you even be bothered by his comment? I thought you said you assumed he has a crush on you? Sounds like you have something for this guy. His comments of you being motherly is definitely a compliment. There may not be anything more to it.
What would be so bad with him comparing you to his mother? Guys adore their mommies!
Honestly though, some guys don't have a very big vocabulary of adjectives. And it's very small when they get nervous. It's a good thing.

What was the context in which the word was being used? Either way, it's a compliment.

saying that your motherly means he thinks you have good qualities in being mature and caring for others, he's not comparing you to his mother.
