Is there a mismatch in how attractive each gender perceive themselves to be?

So I'm looking at a question like this where one girl can't understand why "unattractive" guys with "horrible" personalities would reject her. This got me thinking on whether there is faulty perception on how each gender perceive themselves. So say for example you have a girl who is a 5/10 physical

She puts on her makeup, instagram filters and post pics of herself up on facebook

She gets positive reinforcement from boys and girls telling her she's hot and now this 5/10 thinks she is an 8/10. And seeing women get more people interested in them than guys when she goes out in public she will get even more attention and she really will believe she is an 8/10 and should only settle for guys who look like this.

And if she decides to go out with someone who is less than that then she is compromising on looks and not being superficial. Now I'm often hear from women that the reason a lot of guys get rejected from this site is because they go after girls out of their league physical. But remember the 5/10 thinks she is an 8/10.

So from a guy standpoint what should be a relatively good physical match up 5/10 with a 5/10 becomes a case where the 5/10 thinks she is too good for the guy who is her physical match. So men now have to go after someone who is 3 points below him in physical attraction to get a girl.

So you'd find guys who actively going to the gym and born with average faces (5/10) are being told by women to date women who are slightly overweight or obese with average faces.

Because to women that is your physical match. While from a male perspective he may think he is being forced to settle.
