Why are tall girls favoured by society?

Over their shorter counterparts? Like, usually in a group of girls, the tall girls get noticed first and attract the most attention. Beauty pageants place an outstanding preference for tall women (practically none of the miss universe contestants have been under 5'5 and most are model tall.) It seems that the only men who would actively prefer short girls are men who are short themselves, and do so to avoid feeling emasculated. In studies it has been observed that people generally view taller women as more intelligent and capable. Why is this? Why do you think there's such a preference just based on someone's height?

But seriously, tall women are preferred in beauty contests because they usually have longer lims and that's considered attractive.
The tall girl probably gets noticed first because they stand out, I mean if you see a group of people and one is a head and shoulders taller then everyone you're going to notice them first.
I hear tall girls complaining ALL the time about how guys only want short girls. I think it really just depends on the guy.
And I don't know why people think tall girls are smarter... maybe it's because they look older? I really don't know.

Lol no, as a tall girl I assure you being tall as a girl is kinda like being short as a guy. People will openly state that they would totally date you and they don't mind you being taller because they don't wanna be labelled as shallow but they would never even think of asking you out for real.
The only real benefit of being tall (given you're a healthy weight) is that most clothes generally look better on you because long legs.

I'm 6' and short guys love me. The tall guys I've seen are always with women BELOW average in height. Considering what you've seen and what I've seen, I think it's safe to say that it depends on the individual.

Us tall women are amazing though. We paid our dues getting teased in high school, give us a break. ;)

I am tall and I really don't like it. And to be honest ( this is my experience) I really don't think guys like tall girls. My friends who are like 10-20 cm shorter than I am get way more attention. I always feel like I am the odd one because I feel like a giant compared to the other girls.

Well my friends and most the people I know go out with short girls so I think this is one of those things that you seen in movies and shit but in real life it's not always the case.

You're assessment is completely off. It's a minus for most guys when a girl is taller than 5 ' 10". You're basing this of an industry that says women as a means to move products.

I can't count the number of times guys told me stuff like "I'd totally date you but you're so tall", "you can't wear heels or you'd be taller than me" or just straight out rejected me for being "too tall", even ones that were as tall as me.

@Josht13 no it just used to make me feel incredibly hurt for some reason whenever people were acting like I was some kind of giant from outer space but you eventually get used to it and I get that many people don't mean it in a hurtful way so that helps.

I have had same all my life - hurtful comnents about my height and everyone thinks their comment is unique and original. I had times as a child and teen crying because of it and my mother always told me tall is beautiful and thats why models are tall and why celebrities date tall women - still doesn't change the fact that the average person sees me as a freak. Even happened recently, a guy I liked a lot started dating a girl shorter than him as opposed to me whonis taller and later when I told him I went on a few dates with a basketballer his first comment was "cool so he's taller than you then?". So I giess that's why you didn't want to date me even though the chemistry seemed to be there 😞
