Most first world countries think America is a bit of a joke I'm sorry to say. Obesity aside, America is extremely religious despite being a modern first world country, things like Donald Trump possibly being president makes you a laughing stock - that's insane to the rest of the world, the racism, the intolerance, the fact that most people have a gun, the fact that gun crime is insanely high and you guys don't think having guns accessible has anything to do with that. For me the biggest thing is the whole 'were American, we love our country, if you're not proud to be an American you're a bad person' blah blah blah. Lots of Americans are brainwashed and don't see that. So there are some reasons. No hate, I like America and I have American friends, I'm just giving you some reasons why the rest of the world recoils in horror or jokes about you guys all the time.
You do realize Donald Trump is a serious contender for president, right? In general your politics are giving you bad reputation. It's all a little ridicoulous, politics in Europe are a lot more sober, with less personal attacks, less spectacle , generally less crazy. I mean conservatives in the UK wanted to take money spend on the EU and spend it on the NHS, which is universal health care. Conservatives in the US don't want health care, which is a little... weird

Meh, not sure, it's just the stereotype that I've heard most commonly here about Americans. Generally, I've found we don't tend to like Americans because our culture is similar but Americans tend to do what we do louder and bigger and it's just... Too much. Again though, it's stereotypes that people don't really believe in, the same way Americans stereotype us as all being ridiculously polite and charming but with bad teeth, it just isn't like that.
Other nations have stereotypic images of alike nations too. We made jokes about the dutch and they about us and the same between us and the french. Its mainly based on big differences in culture although you speak the same language. Things found normal in one country are considered strange or silly in the other. As long as it is based on humor and not hate, its innocent.
I'm British and I don't think Americans are stupid. I think the American government is pretty stupid as successive governments have made big foreign policy errors in conjunction with our government's but I actually find American people to be extremely intelligent and I love meeting American people when they visit London.
American people also tend be friendly and hospitable, I mean when an American tourist you meet in the pub buys you a pint of beer then how can you not have a glowing sense of warmth to our friends from across the pond?
It's not just the British. More like every other democratic country out there.

I'm sorry. That's just what British people do. We take the piss out of everyone, including ourselves. It's a cultural thing. Yanks are like, 'woo, we're the best, fuck yeah! USA USA USA'. Brits are like, 'pleased to meet you, we're okay, I guess'.
Because Americans are generally fat and stupid just from looking at the real statistics and even without looking at the average Walmart shopper. And this is coming from an American. The British will never run out of material for their jokes. Not this century anyway.

There's a lot of jealousy. We used to be top dog but now the US is. That seems to come out as condescension and feelings of superiority as it's all we've got left. It's ironic as there are a hell of a lot of fat, white middle-aged men in the UK!

The fact that you even need to ask this question when Donald Trump is a serious contender for your presidency (from a political party that bought us George W Bush, no less), only goes to prove that foreign opinion of Americans aren't unfounded.
We are fairly stupid collectively. But in fairness, pretty much everyone from anywhere I found are equally stupid in 1 way or another. The only difference is that we are more vocal while other countries try to make their bullshit sound smart
