Obesity aside, America is extremely religious despite being a modern first world country, things like Donald Trump possibly being president makes you a laughing stock - that's insane to the rest of the world, the racism, the intolerance, the fact that most people have a gun, the fact that gun crime is insanely high and you guys don't think having guns accessible has anything to do with that. For me the biggest thing is the whole 'were American, we love our country, if you're not proud to be an American you're a bad person' blah blah blah. Lots of Americans are brainwashed and don't see that. So there are some reasons. No hate, I like America and I have American friends, I'm just giving you some reasons why the rest of the world recoils in horror or jokes about you guys all the time.

I honestly don't care what the 'rest of the world' thinks. I asked why British people don't like us, not other countries. ._.

It's all a little ridicoulous, politics in Europe are a lot more sober, with less personal attacks, less spectacle , generally less crazy. I mean conservatives in the UK wanted to take money spend on the EU and spend it on the NHS, which is universal health care. Conservatives in the US don't want health care, which is a little... weird

+1 yMeh, not sure, it's just the stereotype that I've heard most commonly here about Americans. Generally, I've found we don't tend to like Americans because our culture is similar but Americans tend to do what we do louder and bigger and it's just... Too much. Again though, it's stereotypes that people don't really believe in, the same way Americans stereotype us as all being ridiculously polite and charming but with bad teeth, it just isn't like that.

Other nations have stereotypic images of alike nations too. We made jokes about the dutch and they about us and the same between us and the french. Its mainly based on big differences in culture although you speak the same language. Things found normal in one country are considered strange or silly in the other. As long as it is based on humor and not hate, its innocent.

Anonymous(36-45)+1 yI'm British and I don't think Americans are stupid. I think the American government is pretty stupid as successive governments have made big foreign policy errors in conjunction with our government's but I actually find American people to be extremely intelligent and I love meeting American people when they visit London.
American people also tend be friendly and hospitable, I mean when an American tourist you meet in the pub buys you a pint of beer then how can you not have a glowing sense of warmth to our friends from across the pond?10 Reply
It's not just the British. More like every other democratic country out there.
Americans are among the most religious, the US is the equivalent to the middle east when it comes to religious fundamentalists. US has the highest prison population, very high gun crime, intolerance, etc etc. Also many Americans think the US is the only free country in the word. It's not...719 Reply- +1 y
And who told you that? :)

And think of how many don't die to toddlers with guns. Think of how many don't die to gun crimes.

You'd think it's common sense, but then, are you surprised? :D

I'm American. But shocked. I'm not religious, I don't care what you do with your gun policies. How many religious people are in your country? You are acting like we are the only religious country out there.
- +1 y
Well I'm in England, we don't have a bible belt. Over here you can come out as an atheist and no one could care, mainly because a lot of people are. Also if you come out as gay, you're far more likely to be accepted. Religious hate in the US is really bad. Science is often attacked and creationists keep pushing for teaching their religious nonsense in science class. We don't get any of that over here.

It's a bit of a read, so if you really can't be bothered, just skim through it and look at the images. Especially the very last paragraph is interesting.

@zoooot I didn't watch the video, either. And I'm not going to. Yep, I'm the skinniest lazy person out there.

2.8K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. I'm sorry. That's just what British people do. We take the piss out of everyone, including ourselves. It's a cultural thing. Yanks are like, 'woo, we're the best, fuck yeah! USA USA USA'. Brits are like, 'pleased to meet you, we're okay, I guess'.

We think you're ALL stupid, regardless of colour. Equal generalisation for all!
41 ReplyThere's a lot of jealousy. We used to be top dog but now the US is. That seems to come out as condescension and feelings of superiority as it's all we've got left. It's ironic as there are a hell of a lot of fat, white middle-aged men in the UK!

Jerry Springer was fake... all shows like that are/were just actors.
869 opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. The fact that you even need to ask this question when Donald Trump is a serious contender for your presidency (from a political party that bought us George W Bush, no less), only goes to prove that foreign opinion of Americans aren't unfounded.

Says the person who's not even allow to vote who they want as a ruler. And most of us don't even want Donald Trump. If you do your research he is not the leading candidate.
- +1 y
Well, the fact that you decided to use democracy to support the argument that Americans aren't dumb, when Donald Trump is the presidential nominee for one of your two major political parties and the other has just been revealed to have rigged their nomination process... only goes to prove that my opinions on this matter aren't unfounded.
- +1 y
You are acting like I have any say who becomes president. Yes, we have a democracy, but there's an age limit.
- +1 y
Don't take it so personally. You asked why Brits think Americans are stupid, not whether they think that you specifically are stupid.
The truth is, the whole world lost a ton of respect for Americans because of George W Bush. Ever since then we've just paid more attention to the dumb shit your country does to itself. - +1 y
Well, maybe instead of focusing on our problems, you should focuse on your own. A little goes a long way.
- +1 y
Well, you're rude. :)

He is now nypost.com/.../ But don't put too much weight on polls 6 months from the general election. Even if he does have the popular vote (debatable, these polls have a too-small of a sample size to be accurate) that doesn't mean much when it comes to electoral votes. Should be obvious to anyone American democracy is an illusion.

I think he replied to your first insults coming out of frustration moderately and wisely.
That's what someone with a fully developed frontal cortex and parietal lobes is likely to do.
What about you? Predictably, you replied with other bad words.
Not that there's much wrong to that, we all use the resources we have, and that concerns mental resources as well as any other kind of.

Opinion Owner+1 yFine, maybe he is not the most popular one. He is still a presidential candidate, and, as you say, the other choice is only marginally better.
- +1 y
P. S. Lots think of you as shit too, so I wouldn't be busting.
Opinion Owner+1 yOf me? I'm not British by the way
- +1 y
Probably.
Opinion Owner+1 yProbably? Probably what? I am most definitely not British lol
- +1 y
No, use your common sense. I meant, what ever you are people 'probably' think of you as shit.
Opinion Owner+1 yOh, I don't think so, but it is certainly possible. Still, that's infinitely better than being called "american" :)
- +1 y
What you 'think' is irreverent and has little to do with this "popularity" situation. And I might not be proud to be American-German, but that's what I was born into and can't change that and neither can you, so why even bother it? Oh. Right... because you're in ignorant prick who think he or she matters. :)
Opinion Owner+1 yThat makes two of us it would seem!
Anonymous(25-29)+1 yBecause somehow we let Trump make it this far in the presidential election.

I love it when americans bring up the UK teeth thing.
Yes, sure, some people in other countries do not have perfect teeth.
Do you know why that is?
They simply do not have enough inferiority complex to care about it, unlike americans, for whom everything needs to be bigger stronger and better than their neighbour.
It's such an ironic point to make.

You're not that much smarter, lol and very hypocritical. - +1 y
Average IQ isn't all what's to be said about IQ (By the way, nice to see you think a lot of IQ, that may explain your frustration and aggressivity, as well as need for validation, all clues of inferiority complexes).
The distribution of intelligence counts too.
For reasons we all know, while none of us is allowed to show they know, the US have a lot of people on the far low half of the intelligence distribution (checking crime statistics by race is a good way to get a picture).
In the UK there's far less very low-IQ people, this means there's lots less social envy, social rage, social recrimination, rape, and killings.
It's much more of a difference than 2 IQ points.
Anonymous(30-35)+1 yYes they do.
