Why do women ask questions when the answer is blatantly obvious?

For instance, just the other day, I repaired some damage to my son's wall in his bedroom and was finishing up painting it. Well, my wife asks me, "So you found the right paint huh?". I didn't answer 'cause I figured you could tell. I mean there was the can with the right color in it. I thought it was funny, but she got all crabby, lol, god bless her. Anyways, throughout all my years, women have always done that, ask the obvious. What gives ladies?!

Hmmm, a conversation starter? I suppose so...*scratches head*. Funny thing is, I never have to ask silly questions to start a conversation. Maybe I'm just being critical. I should work on that huh?

She wants to elicit conversation, so she just started by making a comment about what you were doing. Would you prefer she walks by, peeks in and says: The sky is blue.

No, you wouldn't.

So she made a relevant, pertinent remark and asked you if you found the right paint, which obviously you did.

A simple yes would have sufficed and I'm sure your wife would've kept the conversation flowing from there.

This is true, but I completely empathize. I never ask stupid questions like that. I just leave it to my mom, who doesn't seem to know how to do anything but ask dumb, and sometimes even completely irrelevant questions.

She wants to elicit coversation about finding paint? Weird! Why can't she just say 'Thanks for painting or The paint job looks great'. I'm pretty sure the guy would have appreciated his wife's thoughts. These types of questions are just lazy (and annoying) attempts to connect and end up putting the burden of thought onto the listener.

Yeah, it was most likely a conversation starter, or just something to say. I don't know if critical is the right word, since you went through the effort to ask this question. More like literal. I think most women, myself included, sometimes say things just to fill the silence. Silly, I know, but usually it's just filler.

That isn't just something women do, that's something PEOPLE do. I have a male roommate who does that and it drives me up the wall. Men at my job do it too. I think it is definitely a conversation starter first and foremost, but a half-assed attempt at one.

It means we're p*ssed off.

If I did that to my boyfriend, it means that I'm letting off steam because I'm p*ssed at something else or I'm PMS'ing. But I try not to do that, because I don't like taking stuff out on my better half. I mean, he didn't do anything to deserve it. But some of us do - it just depends on how the woman is.
