Why is hair weave so looked down upon, especially when black women wear it?

I don't understand why people use weave/tracks/extensions as a reason to look down on someone else. I don't see what the problem is and it's not like it couldn't look natural because it clearly can, and when it doesn't look natural it doesn't have to look bad, and men use weave as well so why are women, especially black women, so looked down on if they choose to wear it? What do you think?

People like to hate on things that they don't do/don't understand. People get super mad if someone does something to their appearance that isn't "natural". People love that fucking word. "It's fake" blah blah.

Let's get shit straight.
I wear weave. I have hair. There is nothing wrong with my hair. It's natural and I weave wear to protect it. My hair is curly, so while it's past my shoulders, when curly, it shrinks to be quite short, which I don't like. If I wear weave/wigs/extensions, I put less stress on my hair. I don't have to use heat to keep it tame. I wear weave because it allows me hair to grow without disturbing it.
Weave does get old. The pictures you see on the internet of dirty hair are on the internet BECAUSE THEY'RE SO BAD. That's not a normal outcome. That's why it was worth posting. Many women put their weave in and take their weave out all the time. It's no big deal.
Some people say it's fake. Why do you care if it's her hair or not? I really don't get that. If you have that much of a problem with what I wear on my head, I need to stop being your friend, lmao. Also, people don't know if it's weave if you do it right, look up lace front wigs and lace closures. People wear them all the time.
Lastly, it allows us to have versatility. That's why I wear it.

I don't mind it as long as it looks natural. But there's no bigger "fashion" faux pas than weaves/extensions that look all gross and obvious. But that goes for anyone wearing them, not just black girls.
Unfortunately for black girls/black people specifically, due to racism it's very difficult to do anything like that without being labeled "ghetto" or trashy. If a black girl wears a weave or dyes her hair fun colors, she's trashy. If a white girl wears a weave or dyes her hair fun colors, she's suddenly seen as cute, edgy, fashionable etc. It's really, really annoying that people still believe stuff like that, it's downright racist.

I like when they look natural because then they enhance appearance but most people associate them with being false and over the top like make up from the 1980s. A lot of people are ignorant and think black women can't grow their hair long so the concept of them with long hair seems unnatural.

The only problem I have with it is that black women don't have a monopoly on the weave industry. All of these other races are making billions off of the sales of weave mainly purchased by black women. I'm surprised that prominent black female figures like Oprah, Michelle Obama, Beyoncé etc haven't shown a interest in the weave industry, or at least invest money into some of the black women businesswomen that are trying to break into that industry.

I was at a convenience recentry, and saw a black man and black woman there with really tacky weaves that looked like some creature attached to their heads, or that alien from Predator. They were kind of scary, since human beings aren't supposed to look like that.

Then you have those football players wearing extensions down to their waist. It may be the fashionable thing, but It's one of the reasons I don't watch football.

I don't think they're as look down upon as they used to be. When it first came out even if people knew it was extensions or weave no one wanted to admit to it or talk about it, like it was a secret. Now a lot of women wear weaves, you can finance hair extensions, etc. and it's more accepted because it's becoming a norm. But I believe many people think it's very fake and unneeded because it's not real at the end of the day.

Well weaves and extensions is not something i wear but when did it become ok to tell people grown people what to do and how to live, i don't look down on anyone because i'm secure within myself, what someone wants to do with or to themselves is none of my business, that's the problem i think people getting involved in things that clearly does not concern them. Some black women with weaves especially when it matches the texture of their hair it looks nice.

I honestly don't understand tbh. I think this snobbery at hair extensions is a mainly Western thing. Hair extensions have been around since the Egyptians-era.

I mostly wear wigs with my natural hair braided up underneath. I could care less about a gremlin that's jealous he/she can't stunt in a purple full lace wig.

But in real life, seeing hair in movement, when a girl is walking and gesturing, and air running through the hair and all that... is a different dynamic. If one of my sisters taught me anything is detective skills for noticing fake stuff. I have a good eye for it.

I just feel there's no reason to shame someone for wearing something that makes them feel better about their looks or if they just want to try something different with their looks. There's no reason for people to be so rude about something that doesn't affect them and has a positive effect on the person wearing them.

But if it doesn't look good it doesn't look good. And I'd prefer to help someone see what they might be overlooking or even subconsciously being too hard on themselves due to societies idea of beauty.

That is my real concern. Black women's hair generally speaking doesn't grown like south Asians or caucasian, so let's embrace our natural beauty.

Even if men do it, its to hide the fact they are bald, they aren't asking for bowl cuts or to look like Justin Bieber.

I think it looks good, especially on black women. When it's blond, it can look really fake and cheap. I have never encountered someone being looked down upon because of hair extensions though.

It is because on most black women it does not blend in right. I usually see weave on black women that is silky soft and straight, and their leave out is not straightened and their edges are not blended in at all. Thats my theory

I've seen too many videos of women who are so weave obsessed that it molds or their hair is so damaged underneath, yet they still choose a weave instead of taking care of their natural hair.

Then those people just don't care about their actual hair, but that doesn't reflect on everyone who has ever decided to wear additional hair. A reason why someone wouldn't want to use styling tools is because they may be trying not to expose their hair to heat and are actually trying to wear their hair in a protective style like braids under the additional hair. When done the right way it can prevent damage to your actual hair and allow it to grow.

Yeah I'm definitely the latter. I think making sure your hair is healthy, nails clean and well shaped, grooming your brows etc is enough. Also, skin and body health is important too. Just basically nurturing what is already there.
