Lending money to acquaintance?

Would you borrow money to a person you know, but not a close friend? You know that this person is not very responsible and you do not contact him(her) very often. But he(she) is in trouble and asks you for help. Say, 1000$. For 2 weeks.

UPD: Well, guys, as I can see no one is ready to help, to trust a random person. It's understandable.

What if you like this person and if you refuse - you will have chance to check this person and know him(her) better?

Absolutely not. Haven't you ever watched Judge Judy? Guiding rule of life: never lend money to anyone, unless you have a notarized agreement that the money will be repaid to you within a certain time frame. And even then, I'd be skeptical about seeing it again. Honestly, if an acquaintance asked to borrow that much money, I'd probably just stop liking them, period; I'd assume they either a) think I'm a sucker or b) are trying to take advantage of me in some way.

hell no I wouldn't

1. $1000 IS A LOT of money!

2. We are just acquaintances and not even friends. Why are you asking me? Ask one of your friends?

3. We don't talk very much but you're gonna ask me for money? do I look like a sucka to you? They barely talk to you any other time but conveniently want to talk to you when they need something...

If you handle not ever seeing the money again. Do it. Not only will lose this money but the person you know.

Never, would I allow myself to do that. When it comes to money, people have no rules or no morals.

I highly discourage it. I wouldn't even lend my own family $1000.

Not unless I had so much money that I wouldn't miss the $1000.
