that would depend on some very specific circumstances and context...

I have done it before... but this is an online friend that I met over a decade ago and although we have never met in person, I do know him very well, we know each other very well and a lot about one another

and there was a time in which he had gathered all the money he had, could get and borrow by other means and he was still short on the goal for a great deal he got for a place in which he could start his business/office/career... it was the ideal place so he really tried for it but ended up a bit short

he never asked me for any kind of help or anything like that, he was considering to get a loan but it was not going to be a good one give the circumstances, so I told him... forget about that, I'll get you that last money and we did, my brother, my best friend, and I gave him that loan, he go the place... he has his career going and the rest is history

there was absolutely no chance in hell for him not paying that money back, slowly but surely he paid it all back and there was no drama of any kind

and for me, this was sort of usual among my inner circle of friends and family, when any of us really needed some substantial amount of money and we were short on all other options, we would all help out each other in any way we could

I was on the receiving end a few times. We knew eachother for ages, we'd game till the morning and even watched films together online, it was crazy how much time we spent together, we basically grow up from teenagers to adults together, online. If I ever asked would rather risk losing some money than the friendship. However, as an adult I don't engage with people this much anymore so I probably wouldn't.
