My RA is my roommate!!!! Thoughts?

So...I had a question earlier about what it would be like to have no roommate. Then I get a call that I have to room with an RA... I'm not really mad. I'm a person who takes change fairly and I'm pretty easy going, So I tend not to flip a sh*t in these kinds of situations. But...Man...I don't even know how to prepare myself mentally for this. I feel like it's gonna REALLY different than your standard roommate kind of affair...what do you think?

It will all depend on how seriously that RA takes their job. My 2 RA's when I lived in the dorms were very laid back, and pretty much said they would only get you in trouble if the thing you were doing was so extremely obvious they had no other choice than to call security. Meanwhile a friend had an RA that seemed like she wanted to get people in trouble, and would actually go in your room to look around. I would try and treat her just like any other roommate, and I wouldn't worry too much because everyone has stuff they are not supposed to. Also if you're going to do something that could get you in trouble, just go do it at a friends dorm.

why is this going to be different? because she is an RA? umm when I was in school all my RA's were pretty chill, they just had to do stupid things like meetings and stuff and stay up late to let people in when the doors were locked and that kinda jazz...i don't see why living with an RA would be bad...matter of fact I think it'd be even sweeter too as long as they were cool...i mean you're rooming with the person that gets other in trouble for doing stupid sh*t...you basically have a free pass to do whatever the f*** you want, within reason, as long as your cool with them...

Seems like kind of a mixed bag to me. RAs are just normal people for the most part, and most don't really care what you do unless it's completely ridiculous and they have no choice but to call security or bust a couple of balls.

If you get along with her well then you could easily get away with more sh*t than a normal person would, if that even matters. If you don't then things might get a little weird. In the end, they're not really the boss of you, they're just in charge of keeping things in order. If they abuse their power they can easily be replaced.

Every RA I've had has been pretty laid back. You could probably do a lot worse in terms of roommates. Maybe you should meet her first before worrying about it?

I talked to her on the phone. She seemed really nice, but I don't know if she really wants me as a roommate ya know. She kept repeating that if I had a problem with an RA roomie, she could talk to housing and switch me before I got on campus. Although I think that she might believe I don't wanna room with her because it might "ruin" my idea/plans for college life so she's probably being nice.

Doesn't seem like a big issue then. Why not wait until you meet her in person and then you can talk about your expectations as well as get her opinion on what she'd like to see? This is something new roommates do anyways, so there's really nothing to lose by talking about it. If this doesn't work out, then you already know other people in your hall you can room with. Really though, an RA would probably make a good roommate.
