Some junior high school and high schools have "no yoga pants" as part of the school's dress code... while some schools do not.
What do you think? Do u feel that "yoga pants" should be allowed in a public school setting?
I think they should be allowed simply because banning them seems a little too invasive (I generally don't like the idea of schools or the government making rules on what you can and cannot wear).
That said, I think students should definitely be discouraged for wearing yoga/track pants. As a European, I have to admit I was pretty bewildered to see teenagers in America wearing them in school when I lived there as an exchange student. Here in Europe, wearing yoga pants to school is allowed but nobody actually does it. In fact, you'll see hardly anyone ever wearing yoga pants in public places. Doing so is considered trashy and very low-style. It gives off the impression of that person being too lazy to take care of themselves... like they literally just fell out of bed.
As a high school teacher in the US, I would definitely tell this to my students. I wouldn't expect them to wear anything specific. For example I hate jeans and only wear cotton pants because they're softer. I also think hoodies are okay, especially for teenagers. I have no problem with casual wear as long as it's still decent, "public" clothing. And I actually say this more out of concern for the kids than out of personal indignation. I think it's important for teenagers to learn that there's a time and place for everything. Nobody is going to employ you if you show up to the job interview in your pj and in the same way, you don't give off a good vibe if you show up to school in yoga pants. I think there's a healthy middle ground between looking totally sloppy and dressing like you attend some 19th century private British boarding school.
For men sexual stimuli is more visually based than psychologically based as is with women... This has already been proven ages ago and explains why men consume pornography more than women do yet at one point every girl I talked to secretly read the entire twilight series despite being a poorly written romance... You typically don't find a guy reading it because is it a scenario that needs to be imagined... men just typically don't have the patience... Evolution would say men see something... Want to copulate and then go on their way... I think we are hard wired for this... Hence putting yoga pants in schools is like putting chocolate cake in front of someone who has diabetes and yet is a chocolate lover... Women are correct to say "resist temptation and be civilized" however we live in a culture where women are over sexualized in the media to begin with... And as women know wearing revealing clothing increases their attractiveness which increases their social power... If social power is to obviously attract boys or fit in.. This is why they are wearing them... Its not just for comfort or freedom of expression... All schools should have uniforms so that children are not prejudiced against for not being able to wear the latest trendy clothes if their parents cannot afford it... Uniforms are the social equalizer so that our appearance becomes a nonsexualized and thus a non-issue at which point we can then focus on the process of learning instead of the social implications of oversexualizing children for the sake of social pressures to fit in... My experience is a former school teacher
I love yoga pants, and I think they are a wonderful way for women to wear comfortable clothes that don't make you look homeless. Men sexualizing them has ruined them for school dress codes and it's an absolute shame. There are so many things that have the same problem, I don't agree with girls wearing short shorts or showing too much cleavage while in middle school or high school but what is essentially sweat pants with a better fit I have no issue with
Yes but maybe just enjoying the view of girls in then without making a massive deal about how much you like them and having some maturity would benefit everybody, girls could still wear them comfortably everywhere and boys could still see them wearing it. To me a fantastic piece of clothing is ruined for girls because of this, I have been out of high school for a long time now but if I was still in yoga pants would be my go to pants to wear to school so it's a shame for the girls in some schools that they can no longer wear them
Well do we let them wear mini skirts or skin revealing clothes
Like its no different though
Comfort isn't a reason to dress overly sexy
Leggings are one of the sexiest bottoms a women can wear
Like you know how sexy leggings are? Like its a 10
You know why?
Cause its like she's naked
So comfort could even be booty shorts. Like thats not a reason lol
Thats cause you're not a guy lol
As a guy and believe. Ask any dude
Leggings get you horny af cause i could visualize her body at a glance. Leggings over anything make guys look hard. So now you know. Ill show you what i mean
Tell me isn't that overly too sexual. Just cause a women has a coochie doesn't make it any different to US boys at age 14 we wanna see pussy lumps lol

I don't even support showing a lot of skin and wearing tight clothes to begin with. Also, not wearing yoga pants in school doesn't kill ya I don't under the deal with covering up for 6 hours per day. I do agree that the logic they give is ridiculous, that it's distracting and stuff. No. Schools need to teach that everyone is responsible for their own actions and pervs are fully responsible themselves for acting on their temptation.
Banning and restricting individual rights of people just because it might not be something I care for is WRONG. You see something that you don't like and right away it's "ban it"!
Addressing your question I feel it is the parents responsibility to handle things like this.
I think that yoga pants are okay. At my old highschool we could wear them we just had to have our butt covered. I think that is a decent rule. I never wore any myself but after it was instated nobody complained and it made both sides happy.
I’m of the opinion that schools should have uniforms. At school you are there to learn designated subject material. You can express yourself through clothing in some other space of your life.
Expression through personal selection of clothing isn’t necessary for school. They have plenty of opportunity to express themselves through mastery of their subject matter and selection of their studies not to mention the vast majority of their life away from school.
I mean, you do realize that wearing uniforms is not uncommon right? and that a child’s choice of apparel isn’t really important for life. You sound a bit out of touch yourself.

depends, I know schools do have like a too sexy no rule kinda thing
and ya it makes sense
kids at that age aren't always fully capable of making the right choices so hotness just tempts everyone to a point of no control maybe and stupid things happen
leggings are way overly sexualized, I mean she's practically naked in a black skin... that's essentially what it is
you can see her coochie, her ass, her underwear outline.,, ya no leggings
but it's hard to ban that
the best way is to have a school uniform, our school had that, so leggings were part of the uniform, can't wear it. simple
Girls are always protesting dress codes saying how it is sexist and stuff. They wanna get away with everything and have no rules applied to what they do. But, when you're in the working world there will be a dress code for ALL employees, male and female. Where I worked, the code was black dress shirt, black pants, and a suit jacket. School is the place where you learn and get ready for the working world so there needs to be some sort of code.
My junior high school got rid of the British style uniforms because young moms with kids out of wedlock complained about it. LOL. I think uniforms are better.
why not? i like how these people try to say, "oh boys can't concentrate with the girls looking like that" i went to high school and am in college now and i haven't been distracted by them. really most of us aren't. really they are only in place because some of the teachers are self conscious about their bodies and whenever they see a pretty young girl who looks good they want to cover them so that they don't feel bad or the guys may be getting boners or some shit and because the girls are not over 18 they just feel weird. thats really what it is
Aside from gym/sports, guys cannot wear track suits or sweats, so there is no reason that girls should be wearing yoga pants or derivatives.
I would also be for uniforms. They are ultimately less expensive and it removes a number of issues from the school.
I don't think it should be a specific pant that is said can't be worn, but more if the pants are see through, because that's really the issue I have with Yoga pants.
I kind of hate the yoga pants trend, but firmly believe that people should be allowed to wear what they want as long as it isn't crazily inappropriate for the setting (like pasties and a G-string at a five-year-old's birthday party).
I agree with having dress codes for sure. Yoga pants are lazy and look nasty most of the time. I believe in training our kids to dress for success starting in school so they can be ready for the real world.
Good point. I agree.
I dont know! I guess it depends! One of my friends (a boy) said you guys can't wear leggings because it shows too much of your shape... that was a slightly awkward conversation...
definitely!
i think they should be banned period. i hate every time i go to Dollar Tree and run into these desperate single mothers wearing them. bending over and purposely showing off their G-strings hoping that some loser is gonna hit on them so they can leech off sooner or later
Okay, I don't follow how these underaged children get to have the same degree of freedoms in life as an adult. They don't have the responsibility level or the development necessary to handle the "freedoms" of adulthood. Adults set the standards for children and that's the end of it.
It should be allowed. Why not? It's not professional? It's a distraction? For the former then a school could just have a uniform as many of them have (although one school that had a uniform I know of used it as a money making scheme). For the latter, I have need seen this to be an issue, it is a bigger distraction to take a girl out of class for it.
Allow them. My school has no dress code whatsoever unless you're dressed up as hitler but thats the law... Not the school. I don't really care what other people wear but I believe yhat everyone should be allowed to wear whatever they want. I strictly don't want uniforms.
They are gym clothes. They are good for yoga and way better than sweat pants. I think they should at least be allowed in gym. And in class too unless it’s a private school.
Only if other formfitting clothing will be banned as well.
I think all schools should require uniforms. Kids go to school to learn. Anything that distracts children from learning should be banned.
Girls know what boys like to see. If they wear yoga pants it is because they are trying to get a guy or fit in, even if this behavior is preconscious, that is the reason. This clothing option would not be a problem if the U. S. was not so lustful and expressionistic about it. Not to mention the misunderstanding of people, given by the fear of not conforming to the standards of the figment of our perception that we call "society".
If a girl has a pair of yoga pants which dont show the crotch lines or anal hole than whats the problem in wearing them!
Although i know that some girls wear tight clothes just to impress some boys in class
Girls wearing yoga pants when I was in high school (only about 3 years ago) was pretty much every guys favorite thing. Especially when they were see through. Should they be banned? Wouldn't blame them if they did
Why would you ever ban yoga pants? there's literally nothing wrong with them at any age. This question confuses me...
that's a tricky subject. on one hand, you'd be taking someone's right to dress how they want but on the other hand, if I saw less ass in yoga pants maybe I would have done better in school instead of being horny all the time and chasing after girls
