The ones I particularly don't like are
1. Bosnia-Hercegovina - the cut off stars make this one look especially poor.

I am really hesitating to answer because national flags are really valuable and being a patriotic person myself I hate the idea of judging which country's flag I find unappealing. It just feels very disrespectful to me. Yet for the sake of answering I am sharing my genuine thought, I really don't mean to offend anyone.
Pakistan. 🇵🇰 Mainly because of the position of the star being scientifically inaccurate. The star is inside the circle of the moon so if this happened in real life the start would be behind the crescent moon and not visible to us. Compared to the Turkish flag where the centre of the star is outside of the moon and it is 'scientifically accurate'... that's not the case for a Pakistani flag. Of course no one ever said a flag has to scientifically make sense, but that's just my two cents.
I think you can critique a flag from a design perspective, without it being disrespectful, as you've just demonstrated.
You've given a good reason for your opinion, and not said it's because you hate the place, the people, what it stands for etc. I think that's fine, and contrasts well with a couple of other opinions, which are just trolling, and attempting to stir :)
I feel like being a Bangladeshi anyone could easily think I chose Pakistani flag out of all countries because of our country's history with Pakistan and the fact that it USED to be OUR flag too when we were a part of Pakistan before. That's why I was kinda afraid someone could take it as my attempt to hate on Pakistan which is not true at all.
But I guess I can't critique much when our own flag looks like someone just colored the Japanese flag red on MS Paint, lol. š With the extra bummer that the red circle isn't exactly at the centre of the rectangle, it's slightly on the left and you need precise measuring to get its position and ratio accurate.
Someone colored the Japanese flag GREEN, I mean.
Yeah that's a good thing. Before achieving Independence though, the flag originally had a yellow map inside the red circle (because Bangladesh wasn't a country yet and the map showed the border of land as well to show which country's it's supposed to be) and I'm GLAD didn't become the official flag afterwards. Bangladeshi map is complex I can't imagine having to draw it inside the flag.
I put YOURS on there
Sorry
@ZeussLightningBolt lol ok I was making fun of my own anyway.
Personally I find the flags you posted look fine. They don't give me weird feeling like this one:
I'm curious which city it belongs to
Yes, Sicily's flag. It looks so weird, potentially gives me nightmare... What is that creature? š
@CubsterShura sorry I missed your reply, it's flag of Sicily.
You don't have to be sorry for that. You answered both of us at once.
@CubsterShura I genuinely missed reading your reply & I don't want you to think I'm ignoring you because the reply is only meant for Jim. Just need to clear that up 😊
No worries š
Isn't that Sicily?
huh, looks a lot like the isle of man flag:
Not sure why they have legs but the sign itself is a swastika which itself is a solar symbol.
What are those three legs supposed to mean?
@CubsterShura No idea, just know that the three radiating "arms"(in this case legs) generally refers to a solar symbol (the triskelion as its called is an incredibly old symbol) and also after Christianity was also used to represent the trinity. But beyond that I have no idea.
@hellionthesagereborn I see.
@hellionthesagereborn yes they look almost similar although medusa head in the middle makes it a little strange than the Isle of Man flag.
I don't know, three random armored legs seems awfully weird. But yeah, both are bizarre (but again, its an old symbol just don't understand why the legs).
As I recall, Nauru is close to Australia. I have never visited, but as I understand it, everything in Australia is upside down because they are below the equator, so. . . Nauru is in a similar position and, of course, their flag would be upside down! However, all the residents would be standing upside down so, when they look at the flag, it looks fine! :) :) :)
Thanks for MHO!
You seem to dislike blue and yellow flags. Is there something about that color pattern you aren't telling us, Jim?
The Ugandan flag is pretty dumb. The flag of Bhutan. The Indonesian flag is too simple and similar to others. The Maldives just looks like a Google generated flag.
upload.wikimedia.org/.../Flag_of_Uganda.svg
I'm asking myself now, what I've got against yellow and blue combinations? If I'd have been asked to name a yellow and blue flag, I'd have come up with either Sweden or Barbados, and I think both of those look pretty good? But it certainly also seems to be popular with people who've designed crap flags, too... I wonder why?
It was just a pattern I noticed. I thought it was interesting how many fit. And you weren't even aware hahaha!

Put me down for Zambia. You are going to think less of me - and I always considered you a friend on this site - but I put it all at risk to tell you that I actually like all of the other ones on your list.
Grant, that they are not necessarily my favorites. In fact, I never noticed the two cut off stars on the Bosnia-Herzegovina flag until you pointed it out to me. However, I actually like the colors and I don't find the designs off putting.
Zambia, on the other hand, looks like somebody had a piece of green cloth and were told they had to make a flag in a half hour. So they haphazardly stapled a couple of pieces of spare parts that they had laying around to the end of the flag and then said, "Eh, good enough."
So, we are agreed on Zambia and now I will go, hanging my head in shame, out in public. There, no doubt to have people in the grocery store quietly gossiping behind my back, "There's the guy who likes the flag of Kazakhstan." With their children quietly saying, "Ewwwwww."
However, in penance, I offer that I remain an ardent fan of the British flag. Even, and I say this quietly so don't tell my friends, even better than my own American flag. (One star per state is going to get awfully cluttered if we ever get up to 80 or so states.)
So, you have revealed my secret shame. Hope you're happy.
Vexillology is pretty interesting. What I've learned about designing flags is that simplicity and meaning are key.
Point being - if a bunch of kids in some patriotic event would not be able to draw their nation's flag, then it's a failed flag.
Complex shapes, symbols and patterns should be left for the coat of arms.
And for fuck's sake - NO text on a flag. Font, script and even language is subject to change - but the symbolism of a flag is not. The British flag has changed fairly little from the 1700's but people still know what the patterns mean, whereas any writing from that time would be relatively hard to decipher for the modern Brit.
I really hate flags that are just three stripes.
It's like "Jesus fucking goddamned Christ, is it so hard to put a fucking bird or something in the center?
Even INDIA at least has an anus:
@Tyffen Which part do you disagree with? You like plain, nondescript tricolor flags?
It's just so boring, and you have to go look up in a book what each country thinks the colors supposedly stand for. France says their blue stripe stands for courage or something, but Russia says the blue stripe stands for nobility, and some other country says, "no, no, blue stands for purity." And some other country says, "No! How can it be purity when it stands for the blood of the martyrs?" And the next country says, "Why wouldn't the blood of the martyrs be red?" And France goes, "BECAUSE, YOU FOOL, RED STANDS FOR COURAGE."
It's a buncha crapola.
@Tyffen Ah, I see what you mean. But we do disagree on this. Here, have a Norfolk Island:
@bananaman177 hahahah India has an anusšššš
That symbol is Ashoka Chakra on Indian flag
@Tyffen yes it means you can lick anus of Indians and you seem quite interested
šššššššššš
so you want to lick the shit of the streets š¤
so you are self claiming that you roasted me š
i am confused why are you so interested in anus and shitš¤Ø
@AkshiJanjua If anybody likes shit in any form, India is where they should go.
@Tyffen exactly what he said. If a kid can't draw the ''cool'' symbols on a flag then it's stupid.
As a combination, there's the flag of Indonesiaā¦
⦠& Poland.
I mean, W. T. F.ā½ Didn't they know the other existed, tooā½ Did no official recognize that their flags looked too similar and suggest the addition of unique identifiers?
For Pete's sake, even neighboring Malaysia accidentally used Poland's flag for Indonesia's in the Southeast Asian Games souvenir guidebook!
apnews.com/e16635b9d194489f9abcd565e34fa418
And the Indonesians certainly were not happy!
But I think it would have helped if Warsaw & Jakarta had SIGNIFICANTLY different flags.
Don't forget Monaco. It's the same as Indonesia's flag except for its smaller length.
@AndYetHereIStand Good eye! I forgot about that jurisdiction.
Those saying Saudi Arabia and Iran has the worst flags just Because stupud westerners don't know arabic need to shut up. Arabic calligraphy is one of the best in the World.
Worst flag for me is Nepal, Sri Lanka, Australia and New Zealand (hard to differentiate) 3 stripes similar European Flags ( i don't like them but it just makes them hard to differentiate).
It isn't about that but someone who doesn't know much about European Countries and don't know each of their flags then it will be a problem..
Literally the same could be said about a lot of Arab/Muslim flags. Either green with the crescent moon, or red, white black with little variation.
Union Jack is a bit of a pain in the arse to draw, having to do it so much in school it never ever looked right and you always end up getting the white thickness wrong
Saying that the welsh dragon is a pain too... i mean who can draw a dragon free hand? ... i like simple flags that i can draw
I'll add the US flag to the mix. So many stars it becomes blotchy and the stripes never look good on TV.
Classic? It's a mere 250 years old - barely out of kindergarten! š If you want a real classic look at the Danish flag which was adopted in 1219.
Ecuador and Colombia flag looks alike because they formed part of La Gran Colombia. Venezuela was also part of it, that's why those countries have the same colours flag.
I know that. Venezuela opted for a nice design with those colours, though, whereas the other two cocked it up.
Ecuador also once used a much more distinctive blue and white flag. I think that looks a lot better than its current one, personally...

this one is a bit busy
Flag of Nepal
Middle eastern and African flags aren't that good like Egypt (my country ) , Saudi Arabia, comoros, Congo, Ethiopia ( which looks like its gonna trap the devil with that flag )
Belize. Its flag looks like a gang's emblem.
Every flag in the world is a sample of it's country and it carries a meaning.. sometimes this flag is to complicated and hard to know the true meaning or why flags like these are existed but the most important for flags in my opinion is the meaning and the massage of it
Iāve always hated national flags that are complicated for kids to draw, lets put it that way 😅
Any flag that has god's name on it. The ones i know are tje iraqi flag and saudia arabia. That is just straight up awful
Kazakhstan's looks like it's from an African country.
OKAY. I'd say THESE
N. AMERICA
St. Lucia's is pretty stupid
What's wrong with the Kazakhstan and Ecuador flag?
God dammit! I tried to post a picture and accidentally hit submit!
Let's try again
N. AMERICA
St. Lucia's is pretty stupid
S. AMERICA
Colombia (I don't like how the colors are unevenly distributed. WAY too much yellow.
Europe
The Albanian flag is really ugly and stupid. I HATE that color scheme. It makes me think the country is in a state of war and bloodshed.
MIDDLE EAST
United Arab Emirates (I don't like that red stripe on the side)
ASIA
Sorry @CubsterShura, but the Bangladesh flag is really stupid. It's just a red circle on green fabric, and the color scheme is HIDEOUS!
AFRICA
I agree with Zambia. What's up with the three stripes in the corner?
OCEANIA
Samoa, since we're only doing sovereign countries. I just feel it's too blank. There is a blue box with stars in the upper left corner, then nothing else. It just looks unfinished.
I actually like the Nauru's flag. It's supposed to represent the location of the island on the map.
How come Japan isn't there at least we color the background green Japan doesn't even do that.
@CubsterShura It looks better on white. Palau's flag is yellow circle on light blue. I'm just not a fan of that green
Ok so the problem isn't exactly the fact that it's just a red circle against a solid rectangle ("It's just a red circle on green fabric"). The problem is you don't like the color combination (or you don't like green).
@CubsterShura Yes. I would have preferred a different color combo
Lol ok š
I dont like the American one, for one, visually speaking. In my opinion, the best flags are simple yet powerful, like the Danish flag, for example, heh.
Flags are part of the evil folks call "civilization". They represent nationalism.
Indias flag gives me OCD I donāt know why that circle just ruins it all.
Probably America just because of the meaning of itās flag.
What is the meaning of the American flag?
@hellionthesagereborn Different parts have different meanings the one I hate was the stars meant to represent the lives lost in the 50 states during the different wars they had with each other just something iād never put in a flag.
never heard that, according to what I know it represents the fifty states.
@hellionthesagereborn well according to the American I spoke with during my uni years the stars represent the lives lost in the 50 states and I quote ā thatās why we put our flag on top of the coffins of our soldiers when they arrive back from afghanistanā.
Yeah, that's incorrect. I've no idea why they would say that. We put the American flag on top of soldiers coffins because they died in service to our country and that is a sign of respect for that sacrifice. I mean I would agree that that would be rather messed up as a symbol, but no its to represent the fifty states of the union, thirteen stripes to represent the original thirteen colonies, white to represent purity and innocence, red to represent valor and fortitude and blue to represent vigilance, perserverance and justice.
@hellionthesagereborn welp... I mean he said his home is in Texas. I hear Texas considers themselves another country? Maybe thatās why?
ignorant people exist everywhere, he probably heard that some where and just accepted it as fact (as people are want to do). Texas doesn't consider themselves a different country, but they do have a lot of pride in their state.
