A tradwife (short for traditional wife) is an internet meme which describes a woman who prefers to take a submissive role in marriage. Some may have chosen to leave careers in business or in public life to focus instead on their families and raising children. They tend to agree with statements like "a woman's place is in the home". The long for a simpler past and reject the notion and suggestion that they're oppressed.
Since when, in today's world where it take 2 incomes to buy a house and live on, does a woman have the strength to be a traditional wife? She usually works 40 hours a week two so in that case it should be a 50/50 split in the labor pool and that means around the house too. The other fact is a woman with children usually work harder during the day then her husband and I certainly more worn out at the end of the day after running after kids and picking up after them all day long. The more kids the merrier it is for her. Making breakfasts, lunches, taking them to school and picking them up, doing wash, cooking dinner. It never ends. In fact I'm sure a lot would love to be working at a job other than at home.
@bamesjond0069 Unfortunately, not everyone is successful - like having a 6 figure job - so they have to mostly live paycheck to paycheck. When have you ever seen a successful - as in rich - man have a wife who did anything around the house? She is too busy going to get her nails or hair done and turns the kids over to the nanny.
You might not know many rich men. Most i know have a lot of kids so i assume she has something to do with that? But i also live in the country and where everyone is religious. I'm sure rich men in new york and la are all a bunch of schmucks like how you're describing.
I think overwhelming majority of women are NOT housewives anymore. Housewiving is getting increasingly rare because women have graduate degrees. Typically it is the poor, uneducated women who take on housewiving. It is highly rare that educated , professional women become housewives. She just has too much potential in the real world. The men on here just like to pretend that housewiving is on the rise because they desperately want to still believe in it. Housewiving will just get increasingly rare and uncommon as the decades go on. Nowadays millennial women are taught to invest into their education, obtain graduate degrees so they can find jobs to support themselves when they grow up. Marrying your daughter off at the age of 19 is an outdated thing of the past.
@nelly83 increasingly rare = increasing value. Demand for these kinds of girls is skyrocketing. Thus they have much better selection of men to date. Some girls are very intelligent and realize this and so they are like "shiiiit, i can be a housewife to get a man like that." Lol
They always say men should marry down and women should marry up. Presumably because poor uneducated women are a perfect match for educated rich men? 🤔 This is why i recommend rich educated women should also date down instead of trying to date up because its a better match... but y'all women always want to date up for some reason. There are tons of men who want to marry a working women, primarily educated, successful men tend to prefer marrying professional, smart women. Most men do not insist that a woman stay at home, unless he is a misogynist. The women who want to be housewives tend to be uneducated women with no career potential in life.
I rather stay single than to become housewife by 26, stuck with 3 kids. Nobody marries early anymore. Nobody wants to become a housewife either

As long as he has the good genes for looks and intelligence that I want to pass onto my children, I will marry him.

But i don't think its true that educated successful men prefer educated successful women. I think some do of course but even the poll on here it shows 3/4 of men supportive of women wanting to be traditional housewives. And in my experience most of my friends prefer that too but many of them settle for less, but they still prefer traditional housewives.

I've literally gotten yelled at in public by a 30 something woman because she hit on me and i ignored her because i was hitting on a 20 year old college girl. She started talking about her career and this and that and i was polite but not flirty back with her and then excused myself to continue with the first girl and she was just kind of listening to us and then she freaked the fuck out at me. This is not the only time. Another girl gave me shit for having an 18 yr old girlfriend instead of her and i told her i would not cheat and she just kept saying i was a loser because i couldnt handle a woman like her instead of a girl. So yeah it really seems like y'all have some problems when you get to be older if you been focused on careers. One was a banker and one was insurance something or other But as long as women can leave me alone. And live with their choices then sure go for it. Sallie Krawcheck is married. All the high level managers at my company that it work for are also married with kids. In NYC, nannies and afterschool programs are so common place and accepted. Working women are highly respected here. Educated, intelligent professional women tend to never stay at home. Its typically the uneducated, low income folks who stay home.
And plus, most households nowadays can't even afford to live on a single salary anymore. 50% of all americans are living paycheck to paycheck with both spouses working. Single breadwinner households are no longer sustainable. And its not good for the kids either. Think about all the consequences of your kids having to borrow 200k loans for college? how about the summer camp that your child is dying and begging to go to but you cannot afford it? How about the specialized SAT tutoring that your child needs but you cannot afford to pay for it?

Umm yeah. College is for losers mostly. I make far more than most college graduates ever will doing some really simple businesses and am in fact retired. Id honestly think my kids are losers if they haven't made their first mil by 21. No time for college. They won't need summer camp because they will have mom and dad around to just do that stuff with them at any time since they will be home schooled. And lastly i mean i can afford all that stuff anyways. Idc other people are broke asses because im not. And thank you very much i do have a girlfriend by the way who does not work outside the home.

I completely support it. I mean... I don’t agree with their opinions and their attitudes towards certain subjects but I’m all for doing what make you happy. Why do people try and make out that women raising children rather than having a career is a negative thing, the key words in your statement are women have CHOSEN to leave careers and be stay at home mums, this isn't forced upon them it is the woman's ultimate choice to have children in the first place. Everything the woman says in that short film is correct. If one person is at home all day they should be expected to take care of the family and home and the other person working helps provide money in order for that to be achievable which ever way round those rolls are.
Does it have to be black or white (yes/no) ? there is an in between option to me a woman could work if she wants to then take a break when children get involved until they enter elementary school, she can resume after that, if she manages well then case closed, if not (for exemple difficult teenage kids) i personally rather stay at home and keep a close watch and raise my children than resume work (my kids come before personal ambitions).
that is assuming you chose a self sufficient/capable partner who is understanding of your choices (won't force you to work or stay home) and willing to support as well as his kids and won't view it as a form of leaching ( because from what i understood in western/european cultures it's ill viewed to not contribute financially in household and for men to financially support their wives/girlfriends, unlike asian/arabe cultures)
Let me tell you the nitty gritty truth about being a housewife: Unless your husband makes a shit ton of money, its NOT worth it. Its not good for your children's either. The summer camps and vacations they are gonna miss out on? Borrowing 80k for college tuition?
Even if your husband makes a lot of money, its still NOT worth it. When you're financially dependent on someone, 90% of the time you have absolutely no voice or power around the house. You are expected to serve your husband's every need because he's is in control. You can't refuse any of his requests. You need to beg him for money. If he is unhappy with you, he can refuse to give you personal allowance. You can't leave him either especially if you have been out of the workforce for 10+ years, its is really not gonna make you more employable.
Housewiving is also very boring either. I can't imagine being stuck at home all day for the rest of my life.
I’m all for people having the right to self-determination of their life.
That said, I don’t see how it’s feasible. Living with a family is expensive and you’d only build up an even bigger disadvantage on the job market 20 years down the line when the kids are out (and the wife needs to have something to do).
Regarding a personal preference, I’d much prefer a middle of the road part-time thing. Brings in extra money, prevent lacking 20 years of employment experience and still with a lot of left time to take care of kids and such if the wife wants to.
So if they wanna do it, sure. But unless their guy makes a lot of money, the living standards of the kids and herself are gonna be relatively low compared to what they could have. And in the long-term it’s probably just unwise.
I support a woman doing whatever the fuck she wants, as long as she can afford it, as long as she's in a healthy relationship, as long as her emotional needs are being met.
I DON'T support the trend of thinking every woman has to do the same thing or be the same way because women aren't a monolith, same as men aren't. Nor do I support the kind of finger pointing that often accompanies women with this mentality, that they are somehow better or superior. They got problems same as anyone.

I think traditionally those roles where very positive or households. It's still has some positive of being good for families in a time when we've largely forsaken family values.
However,
- that doesn't mean it's the best thing. Much of what comes from feminists like saying that a TradWife is a state of oppression is bullshit. I respect the TradWives of yesteryear, but now that desire to be a TradWife is part of an enormous privilege. Unlike 100 years ago, today it means doing nothing; leeching from a man doing all the work. If you want to stay at home all day then figure out how to make just as much as me from home. There's no incentive to supporting a woman who could be helping to support the household in equal measure.
You do you, but to guys looking at this, I would be wary. I see the appeal, I do, but the incentives simply aren't there. You're going to work twice as hard as you need to for little to no benefit.
If a woman individually choses a 'traditional' life-style... it's her own choice and so I won't comment. But knowing that 'doing the house' is NOT a full time job, I wish for my own lady a more mentally challenging life - and will be on her side with that. I see her as a partner - not as a servant.
If i love her i support her as well as her me. And i believe we should both do what's best for the family unit. If she makes more it would make sense for me to be the primary homemaker and and extra income. And if I make rhe most then vice versa. When rhe trials of life hit you these lines kind of get blurred anyhow. Generally speaking.
I think it's a good idea for people who want this lifestyle and shouldn't be dissuaded from it by society,,,

In this age of "'liberalism'", a small but a firm traditional ~movement~(ahem natural) like this is good step forward, I too aspire to be a traditional husband along with dreams and want to climb high but I would also appreciate accompany of a traditional woman and I would love to do all the culinary experiment and innovations when we both get sufficient time and raise children with the corrected mistakes that my and her parents conducted to raise the child better than us and all that shall happen by the Grace of God.
Well considering that people are happier in traditional gender roles and relationships and children fair better in those enviroments I would say yes. Also its their personal choice so any one who tries to stop them is a bigot and authoritarian.
It's not really accurate to describe the movement as "a woman who prefers to take a submissive role in marriage". That's not really accurate. It's so much more than that. It's about women supporting the home, the family and most all, children, in ways that only a woman can.
And yes, I absolutely support it. In my experience, the vast majority of good women would support it IF they could afford it, because they know it is the best thing for their families. I'm not talking about the female children here at GAG; I'm talking about real women who give a fuck about their husbands and children.
Honestly to each their own. I don’t personally agree with it on an extreme scale, but otherwise don’t see a problem with it if both partners are okay with it
As a wealthy man who can afford a stay-at-home traditional housewife that is my preference so of course I'm happy to see women want to be a traditional wife.
I don't think a woman should be forced or pressured into that role, but if she chooses to adopt that role, then I support it as long as she has a good husband.
