Fable 2, Rite of Unhallowed Wickedness?

As players of Fable 2 know, the Rite of Unhallowed Wickedness is achieved by sacrificing your spouse in the Temple of Shadows, Rookridge, at the time of Mystical Midnight (12:01 am to 1:00 am).

It worked the first time, but now that I've married another victim, it's not working anymore. The guy at the Wheel of Misfortune just says it's a pity you didn't save him for the Rite of Unhallowed Wickedness, and I know I did it at the right time! Does anyone know what's wrong?

And no, I don't. I didn't do that quest line because I'm not cold-hearted. :P

I'm not really cold-hearted either, I just wanted to do that awful quest out of curiosity. I just wanted to know what would happen. It's only a game. I prefer being good too.
