Is there a way to tell the difference between a Chinese person and a Japanese person just by looking?

Yes, although I can't do it myself, I've known others who can. I've never asked exactly what enabled them to know, either.

It's like telling Australian and New Zealand accents apart or American and Canadian. What's obvious to some is a mystery to others, but it's normally a case of exposure to it.

I bet for Asian people it's like night and day for them, but for us non-Asians, it's pretty hard.

their teeth. Japanese tend to have crooked teeths, their face shape. Japanese basically has oval shape, their skin a bit lighter than Chinese, they are shorter than Chinese.

Before I was introduced to the Asian culture, I couldn't tell the difference between Chinese, Japanese, Korean, etc. After taking classes and meeting a lot of different Asians, I could then tell the difference between them.

I don’t think there is an easy way to tell even for us Asians. Japanese people have a more islander look I guess.

I think that only people who are Chinese, Japanese or Korean have that power. To me they all look the same. I just call them "Asian" to keep it safe.

Skin tone, eye shape, and teeth. I couldn't really tell you which country, generally, has which characteristics for their people, but there are visual differences.

I do think Chinese tend to be a little darker than Japanese other than that I can’t really tell

Yes, if they are traditionally Chinese or Japanese. Though, many people today are a mix.
