@EmperorOfRussia You are brave to question my evidence. Lets see how it pans out.1929, Macmillan, William Miller. "The Frontier and the Kaffir Wars, 1792–1836""It was primarily land hunger and a determination to uphold white privilege that drove the Trekkers out of the colony in their hundreds"1824, James Stephen. "The Slavery of the British West Indies"."free persons not possessing the privilege of a white skin"Come at me, I can take you any day.
@EmperorOfRussia Well gollygee someone invented a time machine and used those very concepts in 1824 because what is "white privilege" if not the privilege of someone possessing of a white skin?
@EmperorOfRussia How is it any different from the meaning those two examples I provided already had applied to it?
@EmperorOfRussia I could literally not care less about your semantic argument. I argue that the concept already existed and that Peggy McIntosh simply redefined the concept again. The concept was already talked about, the word already used in the same concept and discussion, the only difference is that we now look toward later sources for a more solid definition and exploration of the concept.
@EmperorOfRussia I disagree. Good luck proving me wrong.
@EmperorOfRussia you know the site rules so stop calling people'' dumb'' please... especially when both of you are clearly well educated. it tends to be dumb people that resort to insult rather than enter debate so coming from you this is clearly more offensive than using frustration as a reason to resort to insult... what next? shouting?
@wankiam, Sorry for that. Sometimes I exceed myself.
@EmperorOfRussia i appreciate the apology though you need to give it to your sparing partner really. i was just dissappointed
I don't think @Soteris felt offended, but, in any case... Oh, @Soteris, we will keep fighting each other in the battle of ideas! But that wouldn't prevent me from drinking a beer with you when things get back to normal and call you a friend. You already know my EE style, we may talk big and act rude, but, believe it or not, some of my best friendships grew out of fights and arguments.
@EmperorOfRussia whether he took personal offense or not i didn't see him calling you names but regardless of that, site rules are there and this is a public forum so if i left your comments up for othrs to read, yes you might find that others agree with your points but you would also find others thinking its ok to resort to insults. as for that drink in the pub i would love to be there too, not to moderate but because i agree it would be an interesting meet but again that would be a conversation between mates and not a public exhibition
@wankiam, I'd invite you too if you congratulate me on my second child, who is coming in a few months. Then I agree to drink with you. I know where Soteris is from, where are you from @wankiam?
@EmperorOfRussia uk, thought you knew and yeah i would raise a glass to your second
@wankiam, Thank you! I remember of you talking about Bulgaria, I was not sure if you were in the UK or Bulgaria.
@EmperorOfRussia covid put pay to my planned summer in bulgaria sadly so yeah still in the uk but its been entertaining watching the right wing government adopt socialist ideals to get us through whilst remainers were complaining we didn't close our borders quick enough. no wonder our cleverest satirists in the uk say now that they can't compete with reality. basically they couldnt make it up
@wankiam, I can't say things are going really well here in Sweden too. The last trip I did was to Switzerland for the Valentine's day and the country next to close its borders at that time. I don't know when I will travel again, countries are going to exclude visitors from Sweden for awhile.
@EmperorOfRussia ah yeah we saw reports that the government were just advising social distancing while the rest of Europe went into full lockdown. it was interesting the rates of death didn't go off the scale but it was clear it wasn't the best move on the governments part. hasn't one of the top advisers publically appologised recently? conceeding if he acted sooner with more strict rules there would have been fewer deaths. we dont normally get much news on sweden in the uk but this was one story that had the whole world watching to some extent. mind you from my point of view it was far more interesting to see what happened in new zealand with a female socialist taking the lead
@wankiam, The man behind the plan - Anders Tegnell - didn't really apologise, he just acknowledged that much more people died than he expected, his predecessor and some other gov't figures, on the other hand, issued an apology, but not him. He still thinks that the the gov't approach has been mostly right since the pandemic began. Many countries did a great job, New Zealand, Hungary, Greece, Lithuania, Japan, but none like Vietnam and Taiwan. These countries should be praised.
@EmperorOfRussia thats about as good as a political apology gets here too. half hearted and ready to blame the population instead. bit contravercial but i think once china admitted they had a problem they did pretty well at addressing it too
@wankiam To interlude since you really ran away with this while I slept, I have no problem throwing out or taking insults as long as it does not replace an argument. For example, saying I am an idiot for not understanding that 1+1=2 is fair since the insult is not part of the argument and it would be just as coherent if you removed the insults from the comment.Saying I am an idiot and therefore I am wrong however is an Ad hominem at which point discourse breaks down.
im sure you appreciate though that either way, as a site mod i am here to see rules are observed and as i pointed out to er, regardless of whether or not you take it on the chin, its a public forum and may be seen to encourage others to follow suit assuming that site rules on civility dont matter. as for the rest of it, i do appologise for the thread jack and the numerous notifications you must have had but yeah i think all three of us like to debate things at length ;)
@wankiam Sadly we do tend to debate at length but never actually resolve anything.
he surprises you sometimes though when on the very odd occasion you can find common ground as im sure he would agree... his idea of a drink sometime doesn't seem so bad compared to th thought of that with several others that come along to g@g with a very strong political agenda
What do you mean it's not a personality trait to sit on people's nerves all the time!! :o
@Marilynjuana I'm sorry: I don't really see what you mean?
Oh, I thought is meant Single Japanese Women as men like their Geishas.
@Daniela1982 No, you are both wrong. I'm talking about Sexy Jewish Wives.
Sounds like they all fit nicely.
