Well, perhaps we as humans cannot do otherwise. We are programmed to survive and seek out life despite being very self aware that it’s finite and that there may be nothing beyond death. I think this might be the main reason for why we still continue to get up everyday, live our life, etc. Even if most of us were to get into a deep conversation about the futility of things, I think we’d forget about the conversation rather quickly after it ended. I think we’d continue on with our lives like we haven’t had such a conversation in the first place. I also think most of us think our time is much further along in the future to the point that we don’t need to worry about it at the moment or anytime soon.

Good point. For sure, it is something beyond ridiculous levels of taboo. I remember watching a few minutes of a show once called 1000 Ways to Die. Never got into it much, but the premise for sure is interesting and furthers a very hard truth: Humans are born through one method only, but have hundreds of thousands of ways to die, however horrendous, weird, awful, violent, it does not matter. If somebody could die in some certain way, somebody likely will. Humans are unfortunately hard to make but easy to kill, so the fact that like 80% of humans live on edge in either terrible poverty, crippling debt, or both, but instead of trying to make a better life for themselves and people around, instead multiply and make for even more miserable people in the future, is why smart people become fiscal conservatives and staunch minimalists. I personally go so far as to be anti natalist as well, but am open to adopt if I ever have the financial means.

But the way I see it too, is if you are already alive and stuck in this world, make the best out of it that you, help out others but mainly when you have means to do so. Most things are going to suck, but that makes even the smallest of joys all the more special.

Read up on locked in syndrome my father had it and has since passed away after contracting covid-19.

History : my father lived, he worked hard but played even more. He worked so hard he was able to take 6 months out to travel every year. Mostly back home but anything fun and exciting my father was there.

He had the best stories and the most energetic aura.
He was the most admirable person I've ever known, and his presence meant wherever he went people would approach and talk to him.
My father was every bodies friend.
I was at my most safest in his presence.

People have already asked this question and that's why there's religion, more specifically Christianity. To do well in life so you can go to heaven, it gives people meaning. Humans aren't like animals, because we have greater consciousness and awareness of our surroundings.

Cuz you wanna create something for the world and inspire it before you die. Not all famous people inspire others and not everyone who does inspire is famous. But if we do what we can to help society and make a change before death it will help them too

Because it gets lonely in the grave, You want to take people you know, with you.

It's why terrorists and politicians take as many people with them as they can. The old kingdoms used to do the same. They buried their slaves and servants with them.

Some people get a level of enjoyment/satisfaction out of life or at least hope that they will get enjoyment/satisfaction out of it at some point if they accomplish certain goals. Also fear of death can be a factor. This is all we have ever known and the idea of dying even in a way that seems painless the idea of drawing your last breath and not existing anymore can be really scary to think about.

If death didn't exist, why bother doing anything? Deadlines motivate more than a lack of them in my experience. You get one life and that's all you have. That's motivating with a certain interpretation.

I can use a video game analogy. You can die in a video game and game over, like in Super Mario Bros. Why bother playing the game? Well, that's a complex question but it's less complex than asking why we should bother playing it if Mario can't die and you are just invincible the whole time.

Nihilism is more tempting with immortality than morality as I see it... and maybe more tempting now with all our comforts and 70+-year average lifespans. It's easier to see life as pointless the more you extend it. Shorten it and it will be easier to find meaning and purpose because that person is racing against the clock.

Doesn't limiting the time you have to do something make it more precious?

If you only had a day to meet & spend time with the perfect lover of your entire life, then that day would seem more precious vs a single day out of eternity with them.

Because you are merely a vessel with the only existential purpose of influencing another for a greater cause. Sacrifice your ego to save those who do not have a chance to live as freely as we do.

Because death is what makes you realize that you have a limited time to live and that feeling should motivate you to enjoy life and do stuff while you can.

We fight for our life and want to experience right now before we die but you're right. Ultimately, our life and all life will be over and if there is no afterlife, then we won't even know we existed.
