What is the proper punishment for this attack?

In late May when the riots were just beginning, a man in Dallas wielding a machete was trying to defend a bar from rioters and the rioters immediately started throwing concrete at him, hitting him several times and he panicked and rushed at a rioter in an attempt to scare them away but was then mobbed by I'd say at least 38 people and beaten senseless then robbed. The rioters then laughed and left him to die on the streets when he was completely unresponsive and his hand was broken in so many ways that it didn't even look human anymore and his head was split wide open and he layed on his face in a pool of his own blood. He's last been reported in stable condition but as far as I know, nobody has been arrested or charged and police haven't even looked into this yet. It disgusts me how little is being done after all this time and what's even more disgusting to me is that even in this case, liberals are trying to defend those rioters for attempting to commit first degree felony murder and robbery as well as rioting and many have even made jokes in which they celebrate this. If we had it my way, everyone who touched him would be executed by firing squad immediately, but we all know that won't happen and I'm not optimistic that the police will do anything on this case. What do you believe should be done? by the way the video doesn't get any easier to watch at all, there's your warning.

I mean... I don’t endorse stomping the guy out, necessarily. But people need to understand that the second you produce any sort of weapon, you up the ante, and you kind of give a green light for people to eliminate the threat that is “you.” The second that weapon comes out, YOU are the dangerous person.

I get that there’s another side to it, I don’t know what kind of threat was actually posed to (presumably) his business, but I’m pretty sure you have to have insurance to operate a business, at least where I live, and the solution is to just not try to be a hero and stay out of situations like a riot. If the windows are busted out or they burn the place to the ground, it is what it is, let the insurance deal with that. Particularly a bar, I don’t think those will even be allowed to open in 2020, they might go tits up from lack of income as it is.

Bottom line: never, ever put your life on the line for anything material, it just doesn’t make sense. Also, don’t produce deadly weapons, because once you do that, YOU are the violent threat, not the mob, and it’s open season on you. Whether that’s right or wrong, that’s another argument for another time. What’s “right” doesn’t matter; what’s “real” does. And the reality is that pulling out anything besides your fists now justifies whatever harm comes to you.

They were throwing concrete at him and he tried to scare them away by charging at one of the rioters. He was allowed to defend himself and stand his ground because they attacked him first and he could've easily cut the guy he charged at but didn't which certainly doesn't support the case that he intended to hurt people but rather defend the bar and his apartment which wasn't far from there. Not standing up for your materials only lets the criminals know that you're weak and it'll become a slippery slope and the next thing you know, they want to have their way with your family and you'll have to do something then, I'd rather stop things before they start and they're quite predictable, once a shot is fired, they'll all run away like the rats that they are, if not, I've got plenty of lead for all of them.

Hmm, I don’t know then, I’d have to see how it started and escalated to where the video picks up at. At some point he’s obviously allowed to defend himself. But the guy in the right doesn’t always get to win the fight, you know? That’s how I see this: some shit obviously happened, there was a conflict, whoever was right or wrong is irrelevant because it came to violence, and violence has no guarantees of how it will turn out, the outcome isn’t impacted by who is subjectively right or wrong, if that can even be ascertained.

I agree with you that it's disgusting that local law enforcement hasn't done anything to look into the matter. I'm also grateful that this guy is in stable condition and recovering. Was there a camera in the shop that recorded this incident? If so you can hand the video over to local law enforcement and have them use facial recognition to find the people that did it.

Wrong, they threw concrete at his head and he tried to scare them away which he was allowed to do because they were attacking him and he was allowed to defend himself, then they all attacked him and tried to kill him then robbed him. The rioters were the aggressors who were committing dozens of felonies and weren't allowed to be there as it was declared an illegal gathering for all of the crimes they were committing.

There are most likely things happening behind the scenes that we dont know about. If someone came at a cop with a machete the cop would rightfully shoot them. The DA is probably being very selective about who and what to prosecute these days. While it is disgusting, it might be because he tried to scare them away with the machete.

The rioters were throwing concrete at him, which is assault, they were lighting buildings on fire (arson), looting stores (breaking and entering, tresspassing, vandalism, robbery, acts of terrorism to achieve political ends, inciting violence, and it was an unlawful gathering from the very start) if you provoked a situation where your life was in danger by putting someone else's life in danger, you can't use self defense to drop the charges. He charged at a rioter to scare them away, if he wanted to slash the guy he absolutely could of and didn't, which supports my claim that he simply wanted them to leave and didn't want to attack anyone, and then at least 38 people started attacking him and robbed him. They committed more felonies than i can count and since they provoked the violence and tried to get him to act, this could be considered first degree attemped murder and they were committing countless felonies while doing it, too. They should all be locked up and have the keys to their cells burned right in front of them.

I don't know why they aren't as if I were a prosecutor, I'd be all over it as it seems like the easiest possible case to win ever, but what happened beforehand if words were exchanged that's irrelevant as the rioters undeniably aggressed in the situation and the man had a right to be there wheras they didn't, especially after all of the chaos they left behind them. Even if they could claim self defense, he only got one swing in and then stopped, so it would be excessive force and they attempted to kill him and robbed him afterwards. They don't have one leg to stand on here
