Europe didn’t actually surpass Asia until they acquired gunpowder which is ironically an East Asian invention. Prior to the invention of gunpowder every region of the world was roughly on par with each other. Nowadays, both the East and the West are once again roughly on par with each other.

Asian Countries like Japan, South Korea, China, Singapore, Israel, Russia and India are currently the technological powerhouses of Asia.

While European countries like Germany, Italy, the UK, Switzerland, Austria, France, Sweden are currently the technological powerhouses of Europe.

However, the country with the current highest average IQ is Singapore which is an East Asian country, not a European country.
