By intense I don't mean he cry's all the time, I mean more so he is emotional to some degree, not in a weak way, but more so he is passionate about a lot of things, and he doesn't just describe thing's how he sees them, he adds more to what he sees, giving it more of a poetic feel.

Or should a guy be completely manly, and act phlegmatic about everything.

intense to me means a guy that never smiles, never cracks a joke, without a sense of humor, only interested in what he is interested in, never open minded, not willing to take a risk or try something new. that's my definition of intense so no I don't like that

Passion is a plus. It means he sees and intreprets things differently. Overall, it makes for a much more interesting relationship, especially in contrast to a boring guy.
