The reason why drinking is so normalized in society is because we have been doing it for about 5000 years. Whine and beer became popular in ancient Samaria. Alcohol for centuries was a better option than actually drinking water, you would not get sick from the alcohol consumption, but you would get sick from the water. It even got to the point where we actually use alcohol to prevent scurvy this is the idea of rum rations because rum is made out of sugar cane and fruit it does provide nutrients for the body, everyone was required to drink a pint of rum a day. Now it’s become associated with business pleasure and boredom, Alcohol is been in our society for thousands of years so you literally have about 5000 years of normalization of alcohol society is just used to it at this point

I think enough people are probably socially anxious enough to depend on it for leisurely gatherings that no one challenges it. There are a billion things in life that are probably detrimental or outright wrong, but as long as it doesn’t make us uncomfortable, and more so, if it DOES make us comfortable, or give us a feeling of happiness or safety or security, then no one will ever dare to propose that it might need re-evaluation.

European here! It's pretty much part of our culture. Southern Europe has it's wine, Czech Republic and west of that is beer country. Eastern Europe is strong liqour, and northern is historically strong liqour, but now quite the mix.

Because we like it. Because it’s tradition. Clean water use to be an issue and beer was the solution… Beer saved the world… Most of us aren’t Muslims, only the ones that follow mask mandates.

There are references to drinking in the Bible. It is part of our culture. I will not comment on whether it is good or not. I gave it up twenty years ago., not because I have a problem with it but I decided that it was not a healthy persuit.

Alcohol has been a part of human history since the dawn of time. One of the main reasons we started farming was to grow barley for beer. For thousands of years, it provided nourishment and potable liquids to drink.
