By any objective measure alcohol is more dangerous than marijuana, so why does our society encourage people to drink?

We know alcohol history as common fact.

marijuana a bit more absurd. USA used hemp paper. all the drafts of declaration of independence used heap paper before using the final highest quality paper for the final draft. Hemp was a non issue until ww1 because of paper lobbyists bridged the government making hemp illigle because it was cheaper.

Even after marijuana wasn't a big deal. It was only after nixon was president. The president cannot openly attack anti vietnam war protesters or black people themselves.

Alcohol causes health and societal problems that can be profited off of. Marijuana can get people of off a lot of pills, cutting into big pharmas profits as well. Keeping Marijuana illegal also helps to keep the prison industrial fueled. Basically anytime you see laws that don't make sense it is only a law to make someone money. The orgins of why and how Marijuana became illegal in the first place is interesting. I'd recommend learning about it.

I live in a state where weed is legal, it just blows my mind that alcohol is legal in every state but marijuana isn’t.

Because peer pressure of alcohol marketing. Alcohol is marketed to be a fun activity. I will argue and say the same for weed. While weed is a tad bit better, I don’t think it’s a remedy or has the same benefits to living an overall sober life.

Drugs of any kind if used regularly is bad. Also it has to do with marketing, business, and money. Drugs are less accessable than alcohol for a reason and its political and financial. Alcohol is taxed while drugs aren't. Despite that alcohol is dangerous and deadly as much as drugs. Asm any parent who lost their child in a hit and run DUI incident

Nobody really knows if Marijuana is less toxic than alcohol. Now that it is more widespread it will take 30 years before we start to see increases in dementia. It would not surprise me if it gets linked to the spike in Autism too
