I’m socially conservative because I don’t want America to be like Europe, where sex is so open. Is this valid?

I know that Trump has a terrible character and doesn’t know how to act, but I voted for him and the GOP in 2020 because the Republicans are on the right side of the culture war. In Western Europe, you have naked sex in public, abortion on demand, nude films on most TV channels and all other filth. That’s because “even the Right-wing in Europe is like the U. S. Democrat Party”.

I prefer a society that is uptight with sex because it focuses more on romance. Back in the 1950s, there were lots of love films at a time when sex before marriage was discouraged.

Today, you have so many people who want a partner to be “good in bed” even though that’s not the main reason for divorce. The biggest reasons why people divorce are being financially insecure and having a child out of wedlock. The CDC estimates that your chance of divorce is less than 30% if you wait until marriage to have kids.

All opinions are valid. Even ones I disagree with. While I don't think some of what happens sexually in Europe is appropriate, I also don't thing the government should invade the bedroom.

I'm not sure if you object to the sex or the fact that one need be naked to do it. As for Europe it is NOT legal to have sex and be naked in public in most places in Europe. However the laws vary greatly and there is an issue of enforcement. For example it is a crime to have sex in public in many jurisdictions. The U. K. for example. Also in Italy. Likewise in some eastern European countries but poor countries don't have enough police to enforce all their laws so they pick and choose the ones to respond to. Also, in most of the former Soviet block, police won't investigate a crime or at least not what they consider a lesser crime, unless someone complains. It is illegal to be drunk in public in Moscow but the thousands of people who stagger around drunk in Red Square are rarely arrested because the police feel they have better things to do. In some Eastern European countries it is true that you could probably take off your clothes and have sex with your 14 year old neighbor in the middle of the street and nobody would complain unless you are blocking traffic. But that does not make it legal. It just means there is only three cops on duty in that town and they are busy with a murder investigation.

What is happening in some parts of Europe does not man that laws against lude and lascivious behavior will be repealed any time soon here in the U. S. I'm an independent and about as liberal as most regarding sex and in fact I would say I am probably distinctly to the left with regards to sexual mores but I don't know anyone including and especially myself that would advocate making it legal to have sex in a public park, on the sidewalk, at the public library or even in your front yard. Want to have sex outdoors then do it in your back yard with a privacy fence and I'm OK with it. The laws are on the books to prohibit such behavior everywhere in this country and no state has sufficient backing for repealing any such laws. So a concern about this particular issue is actually not valid.

Not everywhere in Europe has abortion on demand. Ireland for example has strict regulations on how abortions should be done and when and until recently they didn't permit them at all.

We are actually far more restrictive on abortions than we were 30, 40 or 50 years ago. I am generally opposed to abortion but acknowledge there are occasions when it is the only reasonable choice. I would ban all third term abortions and criminalize them since at that stage a child is viable or nearly so. I consider them murder. Mid term abortions I would only permit if the mother's life depends on it but I would not simply kill the baby but take it via c-section and attempt to keep it alive and THAT should be a legal requirement. However, regarding first term abortions, at no point in the first term is a fetus viable nor is it capable of thought nor feeling and therefor is not yet human. The transition takes place someplace in the early second trimester which is a subject of debate among scientists. So I would place the time of demarcation at three months. Prior to that it should not be restricted, after that highly restricted. I would base this law on science and not emotion and what I have said reflects science and plus maybe a little cushion just in case I'm off a little since I believe it actually demarks in the middle of the second trimester but for the sake of being on the safe side I say at the beginning.

Nude films on most TV channels is not a thing everywhere in Europe either. In some places yes but not everywhere and there are limits. Here in the U. S. it is highly prohibited by the FCC and that is not going to change any time soon as there is not real desire by the Democratic party to change it.

Most TV channels? Most TV channels are cable and aren't subject to FCC regulation. Relatively few people still get TV over the air.

@slatyb I do not have nor have I ever had cable TV as I refuse to pay for programming then sit through commercials. So I have absolutely no idea what is on cable or the kind of programming it has. That said ALL communications including the interest are subject to FCC regulation. However they do not regulate all media in the same manner or level to restrictiveness. For example it is a crime to transmit illegal porn on the internet. It is a civil offense to transmit certain other explicit porn on cable tv during certain hours. It is a crime to transmit pornography over the air at all and you need special permission to transmit any kind of nudity over the air and they look at that on a case by case basis. When I say TV channels I am of course talking about over the air. As far as viewership is concerned, in my city 36% of households have cable TV. The rest watch the 49 over the air channels in this market area of about 2.5 million people. 40 years ago we had 14 over the air channels so the numbers do not bear out your claims. I cannot speak for other parts of Florida or the U. S. As for me, I don't own a television. 100% of my media entertainment comes from my $22 per month high speed internet connection. I can stream anything and I have access to 11 free movie channels and one inexpensive paid membership plus all the free content on YouTube. I don't even like paying $22 but I can afford it so I'm OK with that. I estimate that the universe will end long before I could ever live long enough to watch every interesting thing I can find to watch for free ($22 not withstanding).

It's "not waiting until marriage" that reduces divorce rates. It's having enough money to support a family, and having a college degree. Those things go along with marrying later and not becoming a single parent.
