A quick primer on the parties. In terms of racism, the African-American vote was overwhelmingly GOP. Lincoln, a Republican, freed the slaves after all.
It then tipped, but not overwhelmingly so, to the Democrats under the New Deal due to the creation of anti-poverty programs and First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt's advocacy of better treatment of minorities and then President Truman's desegregation of the armed forces.
The real break came when the GOP nominated Barry Goldwater for President. Goldwater was by no means a racist - as early as the 80s he was an advocate for gay rights, long before it became a popular cause - but his minimalist government approach conduced to Federalism and thus state's rights and de facto seem to align the GOP with segregation.
Since then, the African-American vote has been overwhelmingly Democrat. Though there is evidence that younger African-Americans are not as attached to the party. Indeed, Mr. Trump did the best among African-Americans of any GOP presidential candidate since Richard Nixon in the 1970s.
The latter having been an advocate of "Affirmative Action" and other programs with a focus on race. This, while by no means swaying large swathes of the African-American vote, did dilute it somewhat.00 Reply

+1 yWhy are you posting vox videos? They are biased as hell and probably push that very provably false narrative of the "big switch"(so idiotically stupid I have no idea how any one falls for it), or that Trump was racist (despite denouncing racism as far back as the 80s and only being accused of being racist the second he ran as a republican).
That said yes, every bad thing in the US has occured because of democrats. Not saying republicans are good (I have many issues with them) but they are not proactive with their corruption and evil like democrats are.33 Reply- +1 y
@loveslongnails No, your just a leftist and a leftist is gonna leftist. You can't handle the idea that your wrong so you need to rationalize your hatred for every one who isn't exactly like you (ironic since you would proclaim yourself to be the most tolerant even as you demean and dehumanize every one who isn't exactly like you). So incorrect, meanwhile what did Obama say again? Oh yeah, he opposed it. But you'll make every excuse as to why it was okay for him, but a conservative who supported it for his entire time in the spotlight, that was the one who didn't really mean it. Again, leftists are going to leftist.
- +1 y
Wrong about what? LOL I never mentioned Obama. I was talking about what parties were around in the 1850's. Duh. And just to add - the "conservative right" is sooooooooo far right now that they're left too, and have forgotten the basic tenets of democracy.
- +1 y
@loveslongnails See, leftist are going to leftist. First off I presented why that is a shit argument (not sure why my comment was removed) as the party mentioned democrat republicans existed seventy years prior (originally refered to as the jefferson party) and disbanded twenty years before the founding of the republican party which itself had no ties with the democrat republicans but rather the wig party and even ignoring this its a stupid argument because the proclaimed switch (which again didn't happen) occured by your own argument before the civil war meaning. . . . republicans fought against and ended slavery, segregation, jim crow laws and racism. So your argument still leaves every one exactly where they are now.
As for your claims of the right being so far right, well that is provably false and idiotically so. The left is actually the side that has gone so far left but interestingly the right has also moved further left hence Trump being the first president to enter office already supporting gay marriage (and stating it was their (republicans) duty to protect the rights of and the people of the gay community both here and abroad). Like I said, your a leftist so you don't know what is going on because the only information you consume is from far leftist sources i. e. your part of a cult and your so brainwashed you don't even know it (I'm not even republican but you cultists are so insane now I have to defend them, its actually annoying).
Anonymous(30-35)+1 yTrump: We need proper voting ID to make sure illegal people don't vote.
Libtard: Proper voter ID is racist! Black people aren't smart enough to get voter ID!
Trump: We need a wall to make sure that people don't come into our country illegally.
Libtard: Protecting our borders like every other country in the world, is racist!
Trump: SOME of the people coming across our Southern border are killers, rapists and drug dealers.
Libtard: You're a racist for calling ALL brown people killers, rapists and drug dealers
Jack: You libtards crack me up! Trump said "SOME" not "ALL".
Trump: The city of Portland has been burning for three months straight. Would you like federal help?

According to the bottom video the democrats once supported the confederacy during the time of the CSA and also founded the kkk at the time but when you look at the top video the republicans went from abe Lincoln to trump it was the republicans that from abe Lincoln had built on that had founded the freedom and rights of slaves
Opinion Owner+1 yYes, the Democrats started slavery.

I think somewhere down the line the things that both parties were founded on had changed a lot going through American history to where both parties are today i don't think that the Democrats have changed since when they first started but the Republicans i don't think they have also changed since they had started but i do think compared to back then and now they both have evolved from where they were before but seeing how Biden is today he seems like both liberal and conservative more in the middle
yes and did you also know they made the KKK party who attacked black and white christian republicans?

6K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. It is true the conservatives did used to call themselves democrats.
But these days the confederate statues and confederate flags are displayed almost entirely by people calling themselves republicans (or libertarians).
It is weird though that we almost had a second civil war over the exact same right vs left dispute as the first civil war, but with everyone calling themselves the opposite party. Fortunately the left had the brains to not show up, which would have validated the right's manufactured outrage.10 Reply- 5.9K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic.
+1 yOnce upon a time, that was true since the Abolitionists started the Republican Party. But it's not that simple, nor should it be made out to be. This a currently a Republican propaganda machine "talking point" being used to distract from how they, the Republicans, are trying to dismantle Democracy as they accuse the radical left of.
Did you know that several Republican controlled states have passed voting laws that ALLOW A JUDGE to overthrow the results of local and state elections, if the controlling party doesn't like the outcome? Did you know THAT? !!! Where's your outrage NOW? TODAY? Instead, you banter about 160 year old stuff that has nothing to do with Democracy being ripped from under you NOW !!!
Fortunately, and obviously, those states' laws are being challenged in higher court, for the bullshit that they are. That's your Republican Party today.20 Reply - 4.3K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic.
+1 yYes. The Democrat party was the party of nullification, slavery, secession, the KKK and Jim Crow. Even as recently as the 1960s, a greater proportion of Republicans in Congress voted for The Civil Rights Act of 1964 and The Voting Rights Act of 1965 than did Democrats.
20 Reply In 1854 Abraham Lincoln was among a group of opponents of slavery that founded the Republican Party. Later as president in 1865 worked to pass the 13th amendment officially abolishing slavery. Then in 1868 worked to pass the 14th amendment granting civil rights to African-Americans.
24 Reply- +1 y
Yeah PJ is right, the 13th passed as almost a tribute to Lincoln
- +1 y
@jamesgoldman The 13th Amendment was passed by Congress in January, 1865. It was ratified in December, 1865.
The sad thing is only 26 of 36 states voted to ratify it. - +1 y
Ratified I stand corrected
Less states probably would have done so if Lincoln was still alive, I suspect

+1 yDid you know that only SOUTHERN Democrats were as you described? My 3rd great grandfather was a Democratic state representative from Massachusetts who started up his own volunteer company and he and his 40 some odd volunteers went south to free slaves and in fact he was fatally injured by Confederate forces while in the middle of setting slaves free on a plantation. So keep your lies to yourself.

Funny how the anonymous person above block replies. LOL She's also void of any voting law requirements, or what actually comes across the borders in terms of drugs and illegals, and how many miles of new wall got built, or where. In other words, a typical trumptard.
- +1 y
Yeah? What anti-POC bills are they pushing for exactly? What anti-LGBT policies are they pushing? Every one says this on the left, but I've yet to find a single person who can produce even circumstantial evidence for this. Trump was the first president to enter office who supported gay marriage (Obama didn't, in fact he opposed it for his first term and a half). The first mainstream politician to support gay marriage was Dick Cheney, again Obama, Clinton and most every one else opposed it.
As for anti POC no such thing, their is not one single policy that they have pushed that is racist, the only way you can say otherwise is if you yourself are racist. - +1 y
Oh the denial. Yeah I don't argue with the cray. Bye bye
- +1 y
@hellionthesagereborn Dick Cheney "supported" gay marriage not only backhandedly ( " freedom is freedom?" ) but only after he learned his daughter wanted a same sex marriage. What was his stance on "gay freedom" or gay anything prior to that, huh? He is a slime ball of the first degree, bilking this country of billions via Halliburton and "the war".
5.3K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. Of course. The Southern states were hardly likely to vote for the party that defeated them. At least not until the party they preferred started advocating for black people's rights. Then they went Republican.
10 Reply18.6K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. You think liberals were the slave holders? No. They were abolitionists.
Did you know the parties were combined once? Democratic Republicans vs the Whigs. Names change. Look at things as liberal vs conservative.410 Reply- +1 y
Have you studied history? The answer is no, no you have not. First off, the democrat republicans where not democrats and republicans as one party, that is incorrect. In fact the democrat republican party was dissolved in 1834, the republican party however which would be formed by former wig party members wouldn't be formed until 1854, thats twenty years after the dissolution of the democrat republican party and had absolutely nothing to do with that party. Also its a really stupid argument because your arguing that they where the same thing and therefore republicans are the bad guy but this doesn't explain away democrats involvement, nor does it explain why democrats keep claiming that republicans are responsible as it takes place BEFORE THE CIVIL WAR meaning, republicans still opposed slavery and democrats still supported it, republicans still ended slavery as democrast fought for it, and republicans still opposed segregation and democrats still supported it, and republicans still opposed jim crow and democrats still opposed it. Basically your arguing that their was a switch but the switch happened so long ago that we are still exactly where we have always been thus making it a moot argument.
- +1 y
@hellionthesagereborn but but…the names are the same…Are you saying political party names don’t mean a damn?
- +1 y
Way to move the goal post. Also no, and that has never been an argument. The LEFT i. e. DEMOCRATS keep claiming that republicans are responsible for all of these things, I'm stating that is false. Now your trying to argue names don't matter, fine, I agree but you and other leftists/democrats keep trying to drag up the past and claim that its all republicans fault which isn't the case. In addition, the platform matters and republican party platform hasn't changed much in regards to race relations yet your claiming that it has, that they are secretly the democrats etc (which is so provably false that its actually laughable if it where not for the sad fact that so many people believe it (because they refuse to do even the slightest bit of research, like yourself).
So now your saying that the names don't matter, but where just arguing it did so which one is it? Also while we are at it, why does the left blame every one else for what they have done and continue to endorse while demanding they apologize for it yet refuse to accept their role in past events? Its almost like your just making every excuse imaginable to slander every one else and place your sins upon them.
Personally I think the argument itself would be idiotically stupid since no one is alive who took part in it except for the fact that the left never lets it go and then turns around and blames every one else for what their party and their ideology did. - +1 y
To paraphrase it, your wrong, the democrats fucked up everything, now act like an adult and own your shit.
- +1 y
@hellionthesagereborn (sigh) “conservatives” fuck things up and “liberals” fix it. Like I said, you’re caught up in the names of political parties. When- like you said- the parties weren’t the same back then.
- +1 y
First off no, secondly never said that. The left has fucked everything up from the very begining no matter what name they are under their ideology remains the same, regressive. Conservatives which is not republicans, its conservatives, conserve the constitution i. e. freedom of the people from the government, and the ideals of america i. e. rugged individualism, all of which is in direct contradiction to the things YOUR trying to accuse them of. Thats why every civil rights act from 1864 to 1993 where signed into law by republicans/conservatives and not the left (as the left tries to claim (and also tries to convince every one that their was only one civil rights act when their was nine). The only exception being the 1991 civil rights act which made it HARDER to sue for discrimination. This again, shows that your "switch" never happened, meanwhile your trying to move the goal post as frequently as possible so that you can keep making the claim that its republicans that are the bad guys when that is objectively not the case. Which party was racial identitarians in the past? The left. Which party is currently the racial identitarians? Still the left. Their was no switch and your sudden shift to try and argue about names is also meaningless because again, I've not mentioned the names I've mentioned the values and ACTIONS of the groups. Never has any of these things happened in the name or republicans but it has for democrats and the left ergo what your saying is provably and objectively false and now that you have been called out on it you must desperately move the goal post and play this ball and cups game of trying to shift things around as much as possible in a vain attempt to confuse everyone, yourself included in order to hold onto a belief that is provably false. Again, act like an adult, stop blaming republicans for everything that your party did and own your shit. I'm not even a fucking republican and I find this irritating.
- +1 y
@hellionthesagereborn you have stupid views of conservative and liberal. “Rugged individualism” isn’t a political belief. Abe Lincoln was a rugged Illinois liberal.
- +1 y
I don't, actually. Individualism as in the individual matters not the group (as the group is comprised of individuals), so all of your identitarianism (dividing people up based upon immutable characteristics) is antithetical to American conservatism. That isn't stupid, I think that is quite intelligent and is in fact ironically enough progressive. As for the term liberal, I haven't called you a liberal nor have I called democrats liberal because your not and they are not. You and they are regressive and anti-liberal. It is however true that Lincoln was liberal, a classical liberal is a conservative, democrats simply gave themselves the monicer of "liberal" because they always misuse and twist words to try and destroy cohesion. That is you cannot say democrats are oppressive (even though they are) because they are "liberal". Just like how you have moved the goal post saying the parties switched but then when I pointed out that this is entirely false you suddenly decide that the parties are irrelevant because nothing really matters to you except for your ideology so you will ignore reality, alter the definitions of words and make complete 180s in your arguments if it means forcing the idea onto others that you want them to have. Hence this "debate"(not really a debate you stated things that where provably false and I pointed it out then you tried to make excuses for why they didn't count and ignore the fact that you where wrong across the board because again, truth is not a factor in your ideology). Rugged individualism is an American tradition and conservatives hold to tradition so I would argue it is a political belief but more importantly its the American culture.
- +1 y
So inconclusion, classical liberals where the republican conservatives (who where conserving the classical liberal views of the enlightenment period) who where abolitionists. You where "technically" correct in your statement but the spirit of it was wrong as you tried to attribute this to your ideological party which was never the case and isn't the case to date. Their was no party switch, and you are as correct as you are a liberal which is to say you are neither correct nor a liberal.
Its important to recognize historical fact no matter how painful it may be. The democrats will do anything to change history. Especially, when it comes to that time period.
