It greatly depends on the region in England and social circle they belonged to.

a lot of completely different words used.

it was the case that accents changed every 25 miles in England.

back in Victorian times I would hazard a guess that it was even more localised.

even when I was a lad, I could tell if someone came from somewhere 5 miles away due to words they used and tone of voice.

As I said, it hugely depends on the region.

Also socialising yes, that was very region dependant as well.

There was very very little movement of people outside their region.
