How would you describe the people in the place you grew up in and did you like living there?

Ugh! F*ck this sh*thole town and everyone in it.

I haven't been on Facebook in a long time, but having checked it out for the first time in several months, I just realized how many Karens there are in my city. Just looking back on it and seeing all the people that live there and how common they act relative to each other, it makes me realize just how f*cking awful these people are and how they're legitimately some of the worst people in America. They're basically like LA residents, but poorer and dirtier and more crass and disgusting and rude. But yeah, just basically think of all the horrible people that exist in Hollywood, and then make them working class, and that's Philly in a nutshell.

No wonder I grew up such an insanely negative person! You'd be grumpy and negative all the time too if you had to live in Philadelphia. A place with some awful, awful, awful sh*tty, rude, disgusting, vile, selfish, narcissitic, horrible people. And I say that as someone now detached from living there; as in, as if I was visiting there for the first time and didn't grow up in that utter sh*thole of a town. Besides most of California itself, Philly probably is the worst place in America.

Racist and ghetto and poverty & heroine and fentanyl and prostitution all over. Most people were racist. Growing up the caucasion kids i did know were not racist but ended up becoming that way but they would not hire you if your black and the police love locking people up and the side that was of color was mostly gang banging due to not being able to get jobs and selling drugs why all the little caucasion kids could go online on FB and call us lazy and talk about how were always riding the bus. School was awhole nother story i barely graduated & the teachers were horrid do not give a damn whether your in class or not so the drop out rate in my era was at an all time HIGH. I always knew their was better out there since i was born in southern california.

I hung around with poverty kids & riff raff cause i was broke with them but never would join a gang or do any stupid criminal acts cause im not a follower & i was respected for that although because of where i grew up i could not enter certain neighborhoods, ain't that a bitch? can't be caught walking in the rich neighborhoods or the police coming and can't go where other hoods are cause they will pack me or rob me just cause they know im not from there and claim me for gangs because who of who i know lol so living there was such a box mentality, they even had KKK hick gangs.

I had to join Army to get the hell out of there, when i got discharged out medically i thought with my dd-214 things would be different and they would see me as a citizen NO, wrong. Still laughed at me when i went into job interviews and would not hire me no matter how i looked and how nice i was dressed. That woke me up and i decided to get up outta there and get my family out of there too and i did just that and now we all live in California and are doing good, those racist retards never made me racist or feel any type of way towards anyone and a lot of them are still broke working the same low class retard jobs or getting government aide in gray ugly skies full of herione addicts everywhere or most i grew up with are dead cause of overdose even though they had hella oppertunities.

What city is that you might ask? Its Spokane, Washington if you are of color never live there. You can look it up the most weirdest and most backwards city and corrupt you could ever live in. I can't even explain the amount if bullshit there. It made me very very smart though. I escaped that bullshit & if im wrong why the hella did i move to california wherenits hella expensive to survive and i am doing just fine out here?

Why does Spokane, Washington sound almost exactly like 90s West Philly, almost word for word? My neighborhood was pretty much the same thing, with the only difference in being it was more "racially diverse." I grew up with white girls and Asian dudes and Latinos, too. All of them were still ghetto though, so at the time, basically everyone was considered "black" aka, "ghetto") and it wasn't really an ethnic thing. "White" basically meant you were rich, and as I pointed out in another comment, I literally only lived seven blocks away from million dollar homes in the suburbs with affluent white people (and other races). You look at 63rd and Malvern in Philly on Google Maps and compare it to 56th and Lancaster, and you'll see how sharply the divide in economics looks.

Its literally a backwards city living in another timeline lol and yeah thats sad the city of philly officials have to be corrupt to still allow a mess like that but keep rich neighborhoods clean lol reminds me of the middle of Spokane theirs up Town & Country super North up & South Hill which is super south. And the middle is ghetto af and yeah it was like that here too everyone was considrered black of poor but the difference was the broke ehite kids learned they had more oppertunity there and they used it my issue was frowning down upon us and callimg us lazy but knoeing damn well if they look back & fourth you don't see no people of color working or driving any nice cars. Where I grew up was pretty rural, by and large the people were friendly, salt of the earth types. Lots of hunting, fishing, riding 4-wheelers and dirtbikes. Sports in yards, milkshakes after church, so all American it was suffocating. I gravitated towards New Orleans, and got in way too deep with far too many bad situations. It made a lot of distance between me, and the people I knew, besides the ones who were far too interested in sketchy times. So I joined the Marines.

I really enjoyed my childhood, from what you and Fuentes were talking about, black, Asian, whatever, if we got along we got along. Going to New Orleans that was a different story though. Having people, guns, and if possible an explosive made equality. Otherwise at best you were setting yourself up for getting ripped off, more likely shot. Sigh, I have no desire to repeat any of that.

Katrina totally reshuffled the deck there. Same with it being odd to go back to my hometown and see how much it's changed and been built up over the years. It's interesting to see another cycle of gentrification as well. They're very predictable. It starts, properties start looking nice, some crack dens and blighted properties are fixed up, the people who were living in them do some aggravated burglaries, robberies, and murders in the area, investors pull out, wait 5-10 years, and someone else will try another round.

Most the residents where I grew up, were really easy to get along with.

As for humans, everyone for the most part got along great. Gossip was high up there due to small town and everyone knowing everyone but most the time people had your back to. Having neighbors be half a mile or more away, also helped.

At the same time, farmers and rural people so nice. Every time I got stuck in the mud, the first person to come along and see me, would stop to help. Be it in a car, or on a forklift or tractor... random person (I may or may not have known) would stop, pull out a chain and help me get unstuck. Flat tires, or mechanical issues, same thing.

In the city when I lived there, nobody ever stopped to help, not saying they should just different.

Very nice people, until you do something that is gossip worthy... best to not do that or not ever let them find out.

Race never seemed to matter either, never saw or heard any type of race comments until I moved to the city. I never thought much of it at all, because no one every said or did anything racist. At least those that lived there.

Property rights are a huge thing though, in the city its like people don't care but in the country you don't mess with your neighbors property unless you know them. Since most know them they got each others back if a stranger comes along, going to check them out.

All the small town or rural places I've been seem like this. This one time I was in a area I had never been before, near Moses Lake Washington (never lived in WA) picking up some farm equipment the family had bought. I had directions but no cell service for GPS, stopped at this house to ask for directions, like do you know where Bob lives.

They are like, sure he is 7 miles up on the west side of the red, past the red barn... but why don't you come in for some dinner. I went in and had dinner with strangers, got to know them and their daughter, who we are still friends to this day. Things like that just don't happen in a city... but its funny cause I asked "Do you know where Bob is?" and they knew exactly who I was talking about, I did not know Bob's last name.

I have a friend that lives way up in northern Maine. I went up to visit him. I hitchhiked the 400 miles and I got off the highway and walked to the first gas station I saw. I got a soda and asked for directions. My friend had only lived there for a year or so and was living in a trailer on some land he bought. The guy in the store called out to a guy who was filling up his truck with gas. They both knew my friend and where he lived and the guy with the truck offered to drive me over to where his trailer was. He said I would never find it on my own which was probably true. I was pretty impressed how everyone seemed to know everyone else.

I like my country itself, it's very small. But the people on the larger of the two islands (which is where I live) are generally ignorant people. Ignorant of other countries and cultures and disrespectful depending on where the persons are from. Corruption in the government system is serious, lots of white collar crime. It's not all bad, our rich culture and history are really nice, lots of diversity in foods, customs, observances and people. The education system is good too, rigorous. There are always good traits with the bad traits of course, the general ignorance is underlying not pronounced.

The smaller island which I intend to move to, is more well organized with less crime, more hospitality and with people who to me have better ways of being. So I like that one more.

Both islands have many many many beautiful destinations to hike to or visit. So to rate it I would say it's 6/10 in Trinidad but 9/10 in Tobago. I do like it here, but would like to travel the world and always return here after each journey

My hometown is very rural in the deep south, and despite us not having much like other places people are friendly and treat everyone as if they were their own. I have some good memories. Don't get me wrong we have our fair share of assholes but on the most part every one is friendly

I lived on a council estate, grew up in thatchers era, poverty was rife, skinheads was a thing and it was a prodominently white Catholic area with undertones of sectarism, protestants wouldn't really play with us and vice versa, a lane divided the schools so we would be at the gates calling each other names or throwing stones. Since I was a kid played out in the street all the time.. we were poor as fuck but we made most of what we had.

Grew up in the upper midwest my whole life. Most of the people here that I met were pretty friendly and came from small towns, so everyone knew everybody and their reputation pretty well. Had some known alcoholics or guys that had been in amd out of jail for shit, but otherwise not too crazy.

Most people I knew practically became extended family and could just drop into each other's houses or garages each day for a beer or to shoot the shit. Lots of farmers and blue collar guys.

I always insisted on move out and live in the country side, cuz there people is still simple and nice whenever you I brought a new toy or something new like cloth, music, games anything. The kids purely curious and cute, and their parents is nice and know how not to repay kindness with dirth.

The town where I grew up in has turned into a slum. There is a lot of crime and shootings happen on a regular basis. The school system is almost to worst in the state. Just about evryone I grew uo with has moved out
