Drop boxes were a special provision for the pandemic. They weren't a thing before 2020. So codifying them with a handful of restrictions isn't voter suppression. They are am entirely new thing. And with any new voting system there should be some restrictions in order to keep the integrity of the vote intact.

Except voter fraud wasn't more prevalent than it was in previous years while voter turnout increased. So decreasing voting access is suppression.

Just because voter fraud didn't increase doesn't mean that the election was secure. Most criminals are opportunistic. When they see an opportunity they take advantage of it. With dropboxes being brand new. Fraudulent voters wouldn't be able to take advantage of their weak points as they would just be learning what they were in the last election. They would have to wait for the next election to utilize them in a fraudulent voting attempt. And it isn't decreasing voting access. You don't need as many dropboxes to serve as many people as a polling location. As it only takes a second to drop your ballot off. So a dropbox could easily handle 100 times the voters that a traditional polling location could. And since they are brand new codifying them actually increases voting access. As the pandemic is over the emergency use of them is gone, and without the change to the law, they would have been too.

If only one city expanded voting access and we didn't see increased voter fraud then your argument would hold water. But not all cities did it at the same time so if it allowed for more voter fraud it would have been observed. And it restricts drop boxes to working hours in government buildings.

Last I checked everyone is allowed into government buildings. So you saying that this is voter suppression holds no water. My argument holds true whether they did it in one city or 500 cities. Individuals intent on subverting the election are more likely to use traditional voting methods than novel ones. As they understand how to game the system. Novel systems have too many unknowns to attempt their first time out. After all, most voting fraud is done by foreign actors who plan these things out months and years in advance.

You can't go into government building after hours and if attempts at voter fraud would use traditional ones then we'd want to use more new methods like mail in voting and ballot boxes so your argument holds no water while voter suppression claims does.

New methods aren't immune to voter fraud. But people who commit voter fraud are less likely to use a new method its first time out. As someone who works third shift and often is asleep during normal business hours; I am still able to go to government buildings when they are open. So if I can still access the dropboxes; what excuse does anyone else have as to why they can't?
