Regardless of what the legacy news outlets say, there is a growing number of municipalities in America where non-U. S. citizens can vote. In fact, there are very few state constitutions that explicitly outlaw this practice.
Furthermore, the list of areas that illegal immigrants can vote in is increasing, with multiple bills being up for a vote in the near future.
This is all atop of the fact that illegal immigrants alter our electoral landscape in many other ways as well—such as changing the congressional apportionment map, the electoral college map, as well as the amount of federal dollars that each state receives.
+1 yThe worry with mass immigration is that people who just walked in the front door during a home renovation get equal voting power, compared to people who already live there, on what color the walls will be painted--even though they won't have to look at them forever after. Which is to say, the overriding question that needs to be asked is "who is affected by local policy and who gets to decide on it?" For a non-citizen (legally defined as an "illegal alien"), if they have been living in the same place for several years, or at least long enough to be considered full contributing members of the community--who have had time for local policy to influence their thinking--then technically the only difference between them and legal residents is "local recognition". It's the difference between a marriage recognized by the state and common-law marriage. Both of them are valid, but only one of them has legal precedent.
If a person's only crime is being in a place without documentation, because they have assimilated to local regulations and are, for all intents and purposes, residents, then are they actually non-citizens? The state would say "no", because it believes that only people that are officially-recognized can be present in good faith; anything else is tantamount to foreign occupation.
This is a hard subject to broach, because on the one hand, if you remove all borders and laws, then there is no such thing as an "illegal alien"/"undocumented migrant". Everyone is just a person. On the other hand, this logic assumes complete "place agnosticism", where everyone is a nomad and communities are just wherever. On paper, that sounds wonderful--there could be a global coalition of communes. In practice, it's not a thing. "Close-knit communities" do not scale to the entire planet. Everyone is from somewhere. Somewhere has a distinct culture, currency, mannerisms and customs. Somewhere cannot be anywhere and it certainly cannot be everywhere. Otherwise, nowhere is anywhere in particular.Furthermore, if we decide to go full "globalism" and make everyone a citizen of the globe, then we have to ask "where is everyone?" Without states or borders, there are just land masses. Everyone intuitively knows that not all cultures and customs are equal--even if they don't want to admit it. To pick the most common two, socialism is not capitalism; these ideologies really cannot coexist, because their interests are mutually-exclusive. Some people will necessarily produce more wealth than others and are more free than others. If everyone is a global citizen, who is in charge? Who's culture is this new global colony going to endorse. You can't have a community without a culture, because then it's just a bunch of strangers living in close proximity and we call that a city.
All of which is to say, non-citizens voting in local elections produces a whole mountain of moral and legal complications and intricacies the average person is hardly suited to answering. It's already hard enough to get good policy passed in most jurisdictions these days, so the issue of people who aren't even here legally, having a say in how the whole community lives, is a compounding problem almost nobody wants to address. However, as we become more global in nature, irrespective of where we come from, this is going to be more and more of an issue going forward.10 Reply

It's really sad because the people that are all behind this are not going to like it once they are getting shitted all over their chest with a straw out of their mouth to breathe. So much for being their comrade.

It just sucks we're all going to have to deal with the consequences of their choices.

+1 yWahhh wahhh wahhh….. proof or shut up. The republicans are destroying this country and non of its supporters even care. Tax breaks for the rich were one of the first things Trump did, and yet I’m seeing in the comments how the democrats are the ones working for the elites. Mind you this is while the democrats are supposedly helping bring in Mexicans who don’t want to work. You do know Joe has deported more people than Trump did, right? Think a little outside the box. Maybe just maybe the republicans are doing everything they can to make the boarder problem even more of a problem. Sounds crazy right? That’s because you’re brainwashed. You legit have no control over your thoughts on these issues anymore because you want to believe it’s all the democrats fault for everything. The democrats gave the republicans everything they wanted in a boarder control bill and the republicans turned it down…. Do you know why? If so please enlighten us all. I’ll give you my opinion and it’s because they are doing everything they can to make the democrats look bad so that they have a shot of gaining power again. They don’t give a fuck about the boarder and illegals coming here other than the fact that they know it’s a heartstring for you idiots and that they can use it against the democrats. Once the republicans get in power they are the ones who are destroying America and making deals to screw middle class and help the rich. You all have it so backwards. It’s a waste of my time to even write this because you’re so brainwashed. You want freedom right? Land of the free? Well go look at how the red states are making it so women can’t get abortions and are now going after birth controls and all that. How is that freedom? Want my opinion on why they are doing that? It’s almost another way of controlling the votes they need. This will guarantee anyone with half a brain (Democratic voters) will not live in those states. And how does that affect the elections? It keeps the power in the hands of the republicans. I’m no expert, not even close. But it’s so fucking obvious as to what’s going on in this country. But once again I’m wasting my breath because some people will never think any other way then the way they want to think. Critical thinking is lacking dramatically.

@Mybeachlife8888 Spoken like a true Biden supporter. Sounds like you have the same affliction as he has - forgetfulness. It wasn't Trump who was giving $Billions to Ukraine or to house and feed millions of illegals. It's the Dems who are pushing Socialism and Wokeness. All this Transgender and gender identity didn't become commonplace on Trump's watch. Trump may be a POS, but so is Biden and his puppet masters. Unfortunately, they are the only two choices we have so we all have to ask ourselves under whose watch were things actually better? Let me remind you of all the people Biden left behind in Afghanistan and all the death he caused, not to mention the $Billions in equipment and supplies he left before. He was also the Bozo who sold off the remaining border fence panels for scrap and who halted the continued building of the fence that Trump had started. He is also preventing the border state Governors from taking action against the invasion of illegals. Texas put up razor wire to keep illegals from crossing the river into the US. Biden had it torn down. I hope I'm wrong, but I sense some terrorism might just be in the planning phases, because they government has no idea who all the millions that came in were really up to. Sure, they undoubtedly had a lot of good people looking for a better life and who would contribute to the economy and not be a drain. But there were also scores of criminals, killers, cartel and gangs, rapists, and thieves come in. Welcome to the New America.

There is NO EVIDENCE of this so called "non-citizens vote" (which is double speak for "rigged election") that crazies like you harp on about.
Those are green card citizens who have either done some dirty work for the US state and granted leave, or are asylum seekers and have been granted leave to remain. Either way under US law, they are as entitled to vote or work as a born and bread Murican.
Shitbags seem to think there needs to be a separate law for "White Americans" and one for "immigrant Americans". That is not how democracy fucking works.

The first time an illegal votes, Republican, the mass deportation will begin.
- +1 y
@KokoroRamen Remember those Cubans that started voting Republican... the left started calling them white supremes 😂 🤣 You're right though. They did start wanting to ship them right back to where they came from at that moment. Thankfully that got DeSantis over there keeping that bullshit in check.
It makes sense though... flee an ultra-left place to come here... they might not vote left. Depends on if they get nothing but free gibs or they end up working to survive like the rest of us though. - +1 y

One of the illegals being interviewed, screwed up and said he wanted a job. The guy next to him elbowed him in the ribs. Then he corrected himself. - +1 y
@zagor I think you're not seeing the conflict within the Republican party. The America first types are done with do-nothing Republicans that sit on their hands and are basically just part of the Uni-party. For instance... Nikki Haley (AKA Nikki Hillary), the one Dems were voting for in states where registered Dems could vote on the right... total war hawk. She gets paid by weapon's manufacturers just like the war hawks on the left.
If you're on the right and you're anti-war, then you're not going to vote in that direction. Vivek or DeSantis just were not getting the support needed... both anti-woke and I think they'd made great choices. But I'm guessing you're on the left so I think you might understand if you compare the progressives and the establishment war hawk types on the left. Right now you have an establishment in the office (Biden), I'm not going to argue who or what is better on that side of the isle, but if no new wars, stop throwing money into proxy wars or wars, and to start fixing things here was your goal... You'd still vote for Biden? Me, I'd be missing Tulsi Gabbard or Robert F. Kennedy Jr... on your side of the isle, your party has it's own system of putting who they want in though. - +1 y
@V_Injector I am seeing the conflict in the GOP - and the reasonable folk lost. While I appreciate that Trump didn't get us into a pointless war ala GWB, I don't think he has the capability to make the hard decisions needed in the job. Everything in his first administration seemed to be based on how it made him look. He doesn't seem able to look at the big picture or appreciate subtleties. He see's everything as a sound bite. His own staff was often horrified at his lack of knowledge and, much worse, his lack of interest in acquiring any about the things he had to make decisions on. He appears to like the trappings of the office while not caring much for the actual job.
Except for the part that might keep him out of jail. - +1 y
@zagor Fuck I hated the Bushes and their warmongering (GWB meaning if I'm correct about that). The main reason I've always hated the right until Trump. I also have my doubts about Trump being able to make hard decisions with plenty of good reason. I mean holy fuck he just let the Dems and media hit him with all that Russia collusion bullshit just because he asked about Biden and Hunter and why they were all up inside of Ukraine's power industry. I think we're hoping he's been pushed over the edge, and will be a bull in a fine China shop. Maybe take some hard steps towards cleaning out the swamp or the deep state this time. He made a lot of mistakes that led to letting the left do some bullshit... like all those riots.
In my eyes we got to get rid of the old establishment types... the Biden/Clintons/Bushes... the uni-party has to go. They're running this country into the dirt, selling us out, and so on.
At the same time though, I see what you're saying. Vivek or DeSantis because they're just not Trump with the hard on media seems to have for Trump. It just didn't poll that way though. That's how it works on the right, who's getting the votes, while on the left they'll kick old Burny to the side because "it's her turn" for a Hillary that nobody really likes despite he was getting more approval. The left needs to shape up in that department... I mean Biden... WTF happened there? Didn't they completely just shut down Tulsi and started calling her a white supreme?
Meh, I have a long list of beefs with both "sides," but I really don't like what I've seen since Biden got back into the White House. The left, if they lose this round coming up, I honestly feel it's mainly because of putting that man in office.

The president of Mexico just said that if America is willing to give Latin America $25 billion every year, and grant amnesty to all the illegals in America, and a few other things on his wish list, he would be willing to help with illegal immigration and slowing the flow of fentanyl.
He would never in a million years play that bullshit with Trump.. - +1 y
@KokoroRamen I hadn't heard that. I hope the US would not give in to that. I would not trust the Mexican President, who is controlled by the cartels, any further than he could pee.

They played the clip on the news. They had a translator translate it into English
He had a long list of demands, but I can’t remember them all. He did say fentanyl was America’s problem, because nobody in Mexico uses it.

Non citizen are not necessarily illegal citizens. Daniela - on a communal level it makes some sense; as long as these persons are integrated and contributing.
Kokoro - begging for "your" money does take place here and there. But unlike individual people voting in 'your' scenario, it's on a leaders level "begging" on ' their' side.
- +1 y
@andreasderjuengere Well legal immigrants certainly are contributing. Unless they changed it, all people immigrating into the US have to have a sponsor that guarantees they will have a job waiting and a place to live. So they will start paying taxes.

+1 yWhat does the Constitution say about who gets to vote in local or state elections?
06 Reply- +1 y
It varies by state, but almost anyone can vote in local elections as long as they have a driver's license, which is not hard to get nowadays. I don't think they even have to pass a driver's test. And most don't have car insurance that you only find out when one has an accident. That is why most accidents are hit and run here in California. So again, it is the taxpayers that have to pay, not the illegals.
- +1 y
@Daniela1982 what state gives driver's licenses without a test or proof of insurance? I think you're thinking of state issued photo IDs, not driver's licenses
- +1 y
@OtterMan68 Well they are driving here so if they don't have a license then they are driving illegally. But they don't need one to travel as they get free airfare to where they want to go.
- +1 y
@Daniela1982 it's not just illegals driving without licenses.
Also: https://www.reuters.com/article/idUSL1N2PD1ZX/ - +1 y
@OtterMan68 Are you replying to the right thread? Flying free is not the same as a driver's license. I never heard anything about Africans flying free from Africa to the US, just illegals in the US being able to fly from state to state, not out of it. But if the illegals were going back to their own country, I'm sure that could be arranged.

Read the papers sometime instead of being woke and allowing everything that is happening in the US to occur and hiding your head in the sand like the government wants you to do. I suppose you think that all the single Venezuelan military aged men and the same from China are here for a convention? You'll be the first to cry foul when some form of terrorism happens here. 9/11 may be just a memory now, but I remember when it unified the whole country. Right now we are horribly divided. We have money going everywhere except to our own country's needs. In California the homeless situation is grim. Crime is rampant. When they catch some criminal they just let them go. I'm certain everyone knows things are getting worse. I have no clue why you don't know this. If you want a source read or watch the evening news. 🙄
- +1 y
@musicbrain5 Why don't you remove all these anon dick questions instead of calling a person a troll because they have a rightful political opinion? While it is true they have some good people coming here they also have cartel members, drug dealers, sex traffickers, murderers, rapists, and pond scum, and I'm sure a lot of people you wouldn't living in your neighborhood. You can't refute that. This is a slap in the face to every legal immigrant who have to wait years to gain entrance, and after spending a lot of money to do so. They also have to have a sponsor that will verify they have employment and a place to live. They also do not get free anything as all the illegals get - and on the taxpayer's dime and backs. But you are from Canada so what happens in the US is any or your concern I'm sure. But don't discount the opinion of people who live here and are seeing all this shit going down where we live.
- +1 y
Do you want illegals to be able to vote in America?
- +1 y
Go live in California and find out for yourself.
- +1 y
@Billlewis Well they supposedly laid all the Tyson employees off and gave their jobs to illegals, because I'm guessing, they can pay them less.
- +1 y
“CLAIM: Tyson Foods is hiring 52,000 people who entered the U. S. illegally.
THE FACTS: The company has no current plans to hire 52,000 workers in the U. S., a spokesperson for the company said. In addition, all of its workers are required to have legal authorization for employment in the country.” - +1 y
@Billlewis The government did the same thing in California with the Vietnamese immigrants after the Viet Nam war. The Post Office was forced to hire them even though they couldn't read or write English very good. My dad said that these carriers misdelivered mail all over the place. When he complained to the Postmaster he was told that they had no choice, the Government forced them to hire them.
- +1 y
@Daniela1982 Yes I’m from Canada, but I am also a US citizen as I was born there. Of course I care about what happens. But as you say this issue is only happening in California, then this is a pointless question as we all know California went way off the deep end during the Obama years, and maybe even before that. So maybe people need to try voting for politicians who actually give a crap about legal immigrants with green cards trying to become citizens, and who are much harder on ones who sneak in through a hole in the fence.
- +1 y
She’s right. Legal immigrants and residents should have rights and not be called illegals.
- +1 y
