+1 yWell first and foremost, I would like for them to stop enforcing illegal "laws". We have a constitution, any law that violates it is itself illegal (like ALL gun laws). So I would love to see that first (technically they are suppose to do that but they don't). Second, yes substantially more funding and a larger police force.
Third, More training, not because I think they are evil or bad but because the greater their training the greater the probability they will survive, the more likely they will be able to react quickly and effectively in any given situation, and the more training they have the less they will have to depend on lethal methods (not that they shouldn't have them, only that they should be a last resort which if your not given proper training, the only thing you have to even the playing field is a gun).
Fourth the return of billy clubs. People bitch and whine about them but the fact is they where a less dangerous tool then guns are, why some one would demand that they get rid of the billy club and instead rely on a gun is beyond me (they tried to argue the same thing with tasers when those first came out. They bitched and whined that they use tasers to often, so what is the other option? Guns, they use guns more often. Its idiotically stupid.).
Fifth, more psychological counciling. The fact is we have more resources at our disposal and more training for soldiers who do short tours (relatively speaking), yet police officers go out and deal with criminals every single day for decades. Their is a reason why suicide rates are higher amongst police then most proffesions and why they have some of the highest divorce rates as well. Your put into bad situations with minimal means of dealing with it (for the record I think soldiers should get more psychological care as well).
Sixth, more police on the force so they are not constantly working double shifts, this will also help in reducing stress and other issues. I don't know of any studies about it, but I would bet that the double shifts and the lack of time off almost certainly increases not just negligence problems but also greater aggression in police officers. Their is a reason why soldiers do tours, its because after about six months the high stress starts to negatively effect performance. Police while they may not be in as high a stress situation are still in significantly high stress situations and yet they do it day in and day out. In addition I would imagine its something along the lines of care taker burn out, dealing with assholes and other peoples messes all the time eventually burns you out until you snap. Down time is vital. This could also be used for scheduling i. e. four days on and a couple of days dedictated to the officer training and/or paper work that way their is some variability and low stress work (though I am not familiar enough with police work to say whether or not this is a viable option though I think it should be looked into).10 Reply

+1 yWe need to get rid of the hot heads and tailor the recruiting towards logically driven people with a calm temperament and thick skin. Arrogance and the idea that you must come out on top of every verbal altercation is a waste of resources and gives power to the citizen opposing them. Arrogant people are easy to manipulate. If someone is yelling at you, and you yell back, they’re winning. They got you to lose control of your emotions. While everyone I’ve worked with had been professional, I’ve seen a couple of guys who just needed to leave.
Putting people down with rude or overbearing vocabulary and body language to create an aura of authoritative presence isn’t always the way. Simply listening to people in a way that shows you care and sympathize with their situation will almost always yield a positive result to your benefit. Know how to exit politely because tweakers like to ramble lol.
Here’s an example… If a detainee just got in a fight, and he’s sitting on the curb hooked up, he wants to talk. Trust me. If you go in there with an attitude when you interrogate him, he’s going to immediately shut down. If you approach him by kneeling down to get on his level, look at him and ask him how’s he’s feeling, he’s going to immediately open up. If he starts yelling about the other person in frustration, hear him. Listen. Repeat what he said back so he knows you hear him. He’ll calm down. Tell him things such as “Yeah that would upset me too. I hear you.” People who are emotional can be very malleable.
Now you got a clear picture of the story with no lies. Now you know exactly what action to proceed with. It’s not just being “nice”. I’d describe it as being calculated. If I had ego, I’d tell him to shut up and shove him in the back of the cruiser. I only get half of the story at that point.
I think more of law enforcement needs to drop the tough guy ego and approach situations in a calculated and methodological way that aligns with human psychology. Criminals aren’t very smart. It’s fairly easy to get what you need out of them to perform well in the field.
My FTO loved my style. A lot of other deputies didn’t. The proof is in the pudding though. Had little to no complaints, solid and detailed reports, and worked through our call log faster than most.20 Reply

@oldasIfeel22 What would the middle ground be? I'm open to some things such as getting rid of no knock warrants, but largely the problems stem from people resisting arrest. 00 Reply 6K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. I'd like to see cops go back to the "protect and serve" idea as opposed to treating all citizens as potential threats.
Cops used to treat people with civility and respect. They didn't look like Robocops or act like thugs.
If they were arresting someone, they told the person that they were placing them under arrest and to place their hands behind their back. Then they would handcuff them. Simples.
Nowdays, cops are trained to use take down techniques, even on small, unarmed, non-threatening women and compliant people. They don't even seem to know how to handcuff someone unless the person is flat on the ground with three cops kneeling on them and hurting them while shouting "Stop resisting!" Fucking pussies.
I don't support cutting funding, but I tend to think the police have plenty of funding. Unfortunately, the funds are spent on increased militarization. You'd think cops are soldiers in Afghanistan. What has changed other than the kind training they receive? Americans aren't any more dangerous or violent than they were before.10 Reply
+1 yWhen the whole defund the police thing came out, that saying just seemed like a bad idea. Someone explained what it truly meant, that they take part of police funding to have therapist or whatever go with police on calls and stuff.
I am 100% against defunding the police in fact they need MORE funding... however I have no issues if they want to start a different program. Where rather than calling 911 for help they call a different number for some situations where a therapist or counselor or whoever goes out and tries to talk them down and whatever. Things that people think cops would just shoot first and ask questions later on.
This way all those people who call 911 cause their kid is fighting with them and has a knife, who says they never would of called had they know the police would of shot them when the kid charged the police with a deadly weapon can call a non police response to talk their kid down.
It would either have to be funded by taxes or they could make it usage based, when you call they respond then send you a bill... like an ambulance ride. No one gets a free ambulance ride to the hospital.00 Reply4K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. I'd like to see them with less responsibility. Only crimes and keeping the public safe. Decrease money to them but decrease responsibility also. There is no reason for an armed response unit to be deployed when there's an unarmed autistic person flipping out. That's what mental health services are for, if they were funded.
The way things are going the EMTs and paramedics and fire brigades will shut down and the police will add fire responsibility to their ever growing list of areas they get asked to handle.10 Reply688 opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. By defunding cops you're basically creating Gotham city "before" Bruce Wayne decides to be Batman. A place where everything and everyone is for sale.
And if you think a cop using a bit of violence to enforce law and order is bad imagine a criminal beating a guy half to death and no one around can do a thing?
Cops are not perfect but they are the lesser evil. At least with cops you can always try complying and not making their job harder than it already is. With criminal no matter what you do you're getting hurt.15 Reply- +1 y
Im all for the idea that "if everyone had a gun each would think twice before using it" but that alone without cops will cause different problems: like who decides in human scum? +1 yWe need the following:
- Require a college degree in a relevant field (criminal psychology)
- Require at least a purple belt in Brazilian jiu jitsu. Teach offers which holds are dangerous vs. which ones are effective at restraining a suspect.
- Mandated body cams. (Unless the officer is using the bathroom)
- Pay them very well if they successfully meet all the requirements. You want to recruit the right people
- Give psychological “decompressing” training for officers who get jaded. Some officers start taking mental shortcuts after they deal with so much crap.
- Make new uniforms that are bullet resistant.
- Hold our fucking mass media accountable by giving only immutable facts about particular incidents. Quit fixating on race.
- Invite more middle school, HS kids and community leaders to police forces to show them how the training works and what cops have to deal with.10 Reply
+1 yHold them accountable first of all. I've seen so many police vehicles do the same exact thing that they give tickets for I have it on dash cam as a matter of fact I bought a dash cam because it's getting tickets that were just from police who were police and for profits. If they Trump up the tickets, while you're guaranteed to just plead guilty because of the inconvenience to just one of them at least. So doing that there you go giving the local town or city wherever you're at like a hundred bucks plus the court costs. Now if we are found not guilty because we all have video proof of it the weekly cross back like the time we missed to work? No we don't! Hold them accountable I say
10 ReplyYou have to start by stopping these dumb ass DAs who do things like refuse to press charges on legitimate felonies; it makes incentivizing police to do their jobs next to impossible. After that happens, I'd like to see cops trained a hell of a lot better than they are in hand to hand fighting.
When you get down to it, the problem with American cops is that we don't train them well enough and then arm them too heavily to do their jobs safely without resorting to that deadly force. Cops need to be trained to proficiency in a blend of Jujitsu and Krav Maga. How can we be shocked when civies get blasted away when we hand an overly powerful weapon to someone who recognizes that it's safer for him to fire his service weapon than get into a up-close-and-personal encounter with a perp? It doesn't make any sense.10 Reply
+1 yI don't think they should be able to commit the same crimes they arrest other people for. For example if I want to point a gun at someone I will get arrested for brandishing a firearm. But it's okay for them to point their gun at someone during a traffic stop because they "fear for their life"Even though the person is complying completely. But when I do it if it's justified it has to be a "reasonable" fear for my life they tend to ignore the reasonable part. Even though the person is complying. I've seen video after video of this on YouTube, and have experienced a similar situation myself. They need to be held to the same standards as every other citizen and if they fear for their life it needs to be reasonable fear for their life or they should be arrested and charged just like everybody else. They're basically the worst gang in my city.

Better training. Better choice of personel. It would require increasing the funding. Now there were at least 2 cases in the past year that a cop mistaken his/her taser for a gun and shot a person instead of tasing. Defunding the police will only result in more people like that. Second, the less money you put into the police, the worse kind of people will join - because really skilled and experienced people will join some place with better salary. More training, better personel and you are in for police force without racism and accidents.

And keep them posted at the ready like firefighters and EMTs waiting for an emergency. Not out on patrol looking for trouble.
That would put most of them out of a job though. With less money going to the salaries of traffic cops and meter maids you'll have more money and resources to train the guys capturing, restraining and possibly killing the actually dangerous and violent criminals.

+1 yNo increasing funding. They have enough funding. Taxes are already too high.
There are no problems on the cop's side. You can't have a profession with 800,000 members that doesn't have a few bad practitioners. It's impossible. This is a fake narrative set up so that it can NEVER be achieved and as long as a single cop does something bad the left will use it as an excuse to riot, loot, assault, murder and bring down the country. It's BS. There are only a handful of unjustified shootings by cops every year even though they have MILLIONS of encounters with the public. And only a percentage of them is black people. The reason it is a disproportionate percentage black is because black people proportionately COMMIT MORE CRIMES so of course they have more encounters with cops. More encounters with cops means more chance something will go wrong. There is NO systemic racism. That's complete BULLSHIT.10 Reply 478 opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. In depends.
In our current situation? I would abolish all police. I would then count on the black community to """culturally enrich""" our society in order to accelerate the collapse of the state and to further racial tension.
In the ideal society? I would have standard police armed with military tier weapons, as citizens would have access to many military tier weapons as well. I would also have a second branch of secret police in order to support both the local police and the federal government. This would be in a far right dictatorship.00 Reply6K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. I'd be cool with paying them more and funding a four year degree for them (I would require a theater degree for good reasons - particularly because theater teaches one to control their emotions).
But we also don't need tanks strolling down neighborhood streets. And the scope of their job should be limited. Anything that gives a cop a reason to be angry shouldn't be part of their job.10 Reply
+1 yThey should do more to inform citizens of how they operate, then said citizen would know what to expect if he/she breaks the law. Parents dont teach their kids about the criminal justice system anymore. America is in an accountability drought and nobody wants to be responsible for their actions

+1 yNot their funding but creating a publicly funded inquiry unit made up of criminal lawyers to look into cases of police misconduct and to examine bodycam footage etc for misconduct would go a long way towards fixing the accountability problem I think. Funding would have to be separate from law enforcements funding and they’d have to have teeth to impose fines, remove licenses etc in cases of obstruction of their investigations.
00 Reply Decrease funding.
If all drugs are decriminalised, there will be no need for excessive policing and if there will be no need for excessive policing, then there will be no need for excessive funding.
That money can be used for other important things, perhaps some of it can even go in to training them on how to handle mentally ill people without unnecessary violence, etc etc.00 Reply27.1K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. Instead of enacting new gun laws, just enforce the ones that are already on the books. A mandatory year in jail for possession of an unregistered firearm.

416 Reply- +1 y
Are you sure about your hair dresser being trained twice as many hours as a police officer?
I agree that they need more training. But they also need more decompression training. Over time some of them understandably grow jaded. They do deal with the scum of the earth all the time. That doesn’t at all excuse them for making mental shortcuts but I can see how that can happen.
Also if we require all this new training and qualifications they better be compensated well for it AND more importantly RESPECTED. Good cops are quitting in droves right now and it’s no wonder why. They are putting themselves in harms way. At times they are no different than a active duty soldier in a war zone. We got to respect good cops because they keeping the peace and often SAVING lives. - +1 y
And no they shouldn't be compensated they should have been trained more to begin with. They get more gun training which is weird because it's not their job to kill people. Yet for a lot of them that's all they seem to know how to do. If they can't do that then defund the police and redistribute their obscene amount of funds into a crisis team
- +1 y
And do you think criminals will magically stop harming people? There are evil, twisted and violent people out there who don’t give a shit who harming, raping or killing people. They don’t care about gun laws. They don’t care about safe zones. And above all they don’t give a shit about your feelings.
There is a reason why police are armed. Yes accidents happens. Yes brutality is wrong and should be prosecuted (when solid evidence supports the case).
But the bottom line is violent crimes are skyrocketing in major cities across the USA. If you want me support the sources on it I will (I can’t post links yet because I’m new).
What drives me nuts is people who live in the suburbs get behind BLM and “defund the police” because they don’t have to suffer the consequences of rioting, increased danger in their neighborhoods, etc. But vulnerable populations (most minority unfortunately) are now living amongst emboldened criminals.
There are consequences to radical “change”. Do I agree police can be trained better? Absolutely. But make it worthwhile for the right kind of recruits to join the force. Disarming cops and “defunding” them will only do the opposite. - +1 y
@Ryfyle @Aimée__LJ I hope you both live in a bad neighborhood in the city. If you don’t, then move there and keep the “defund the police” mantra and just see what happens when someone tries to break into your house. The cops might show up late (from being understaffed) or better yet not show up at all. I hope you pack heat because whoever is breaking into your house is very likely armed.
And as for you @Aimée__LJ I really hope you skilled in self defense. I really hope you can defend yourself against a potential 200lb man invading your home who intends to violate you. I got a feeling you don’t own a gun so I hope your lucky enough to land a direct knee to his balls (and hopefully he’s sober enough to feel the pain).
I swear the God what the hell is wrong with you people? Maybe you had a bad experience with the cops once. I did once a very long time ago. But I’m not holding a grudge. The vast majority of cops I’ve met are good people who are trying to uphold the peace. There is a reason why law enforcement exists.
Your attitudes DO impact society and not for the better. If you want to change policing than be a rational adult and research all the facts instead of resorting to dumbfuck mantras and hashtags.

Personally I’d rather deal with vigilantes because at least vigilantes are aiming in the general direction of justice. But I’m getting tired of seeing cops, who we pay to protect us, routinely fucking people over, killing people and raping people.
And please don’t give the “oh it’s just a few bad ones” shit. They know it’s going on and they do Jack shit about it. The thin blue line crap, and the pro cop no matter what crowd protect abusers. - +1 y
Thanks Agape I had no clue what to say.. I dont know didn't expect to be attacked.. I just know the cops have never helped me.. they are clocking in and clocking out like anyone else they dont care about us as individuals they see things time and time again..
- +1 y
Anytime hon. Folks like this always start shit. If you don’t want to deal with them further, I suggest blocking them.
Exactly. I’ve been arrested for shit i hadn’t done, on my own property and inside my own house. Cops only helped once and that was because they had no choice but to do something. That’s it. I get along better with wardens because at least they’re down to earth and actually give a shit - +1 y
Wow that makes sense they dont act better than you sorta deal..
- +1 y
They show no remorse or regret either.. like even tho they know it could be wrong they are too lazy to figure it out they just want to close the case and move on to the next one weather or not they have the actual person that committed the crimes.. case closed

Exactly!

"Blind belief in authority is the greatest enemy of truth." - Albert Einstein
- +1 y
you know Einstein was talking about politicans and the government right? not law enforcement
lmao - +1 y
in other words "anything the government says must be Blindly accepted" - liberals
which is exactly what's happening, this is why they want to take our guns away so they can have maximum control and authority over us and we have to accept it or else...
Changes to legislature. Stop pulling people over for certain things. Stop enforcing minor infractions that only make you look like assholes. Move funding into investigations of serious crimes
00 ReplyCops dont get to carry guns. If they can't do their job without weapons then they dont deserve to be police officers.

+1 yCops don't have my respect until they patrol areas they're "banned from patrolling" because they're too dangerous. It seems cops in America are undertrained, which would explain their cowardice.
110 Reply- +1 y
Their cowardice? Every single day they get up and walk out of their door with a target on their back knowing they might not come home and they do it for complete strangers and even for people like yourself who call them cowards. And they keep doing it anyway because that's the kind of selfless people that the majority of them are. Doing underpaid and underappreciated. And if you're looking for change in areas that are "too dangerous" have the people of those communities start teaching their children morals and values and raising people to be respectable functioning contributing members of society and teach them to stop voting democrats in charge.
- +1 y
Ew a retard who blames democrats for their problems. How about police step up their "selflessness" and earn their appreciation the same way our troops would. Going out and fucking with a street bum every day isn't brave, because Karens do that all the time. 🤣 Quit expecting shit from people who have no chance in life like you think it's that easy for them. Cops aren't your heroes buddy. Hell, some of those cops only wanna get paid. Selfish pricks.
- +1 y
I'm not blaming democrats for my problems because I choose not to live in those areas that you speak of. Do a little research about the places you're referring too. Also, why don't you put on a vest and get out there and see what it's like for one day. Even just 12 hours. And you must live in a bubble somewhere if the only thing your cops do is deal with "street bums." Comparing a police officer to a Karen? How does that work? One is a whiny woman and the other is getting shot at on the daily protecting people. Then when someone like you needs help you're going to call them because what else are you going to do, and they will come to that too because that's the kind of people most of them are, selfless people, who will put themselves between a complete stranger and whatever threat there is, even when the person they are helping hates them. Please don't call 911 ever and risk their loves for yours.
- +1 y
If I had to put on a vest and patrol, I'd probably be doing the exact same thing - not setting foot near those areas because I'm a coward and I don't have any real training in a deadly environment. :) Bud, the only point you proved there was mine. I see more cops eating donuts and messing with people that "look strange" than saving lives. Of course, some morons do choose to start shooting at cops thinking that'll get em somewhere. Any street bum can carry a pistol though. What about places where really nasty weapons are in the wrong hands hm?
As for me needing cops? A lot of folks need to be their own cops because they have problems with the law. And what good are cops anyway when they can rarely find little kids that get kidnapped and being trafficked? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Besides, they can reject a distress call all they want. They're only ruining their own reputation. Lmfao
To end this comment, let me say the whole "democrats this n that" thing is getting OOOOOOOOLD. I get it, they're fuckin idiots. But we suffered a year of a pandemic because of REPUBLICANS. Y'all been repeating the same shit for nobody even knows how long anymore, and a lot of it isn't even true. 🤣 In all honesty, while I still disagreed with you, I at least took you seriously up until I read that bit. Lol - +1 y
You want to keep your family safe? Stop depending on others to fight your battles for you. We're in America, retard. Just buy a gun. 🤣🤣🤣🤣 And what research do I need to do? Do I simply need to read an article that says stuff you like? Lmfao no bud. And don't worry about me dialing 911. Sending cowards to the front line was never a good idea, unless you like the idea of cannon fodder. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
- +1 y
Good. Now stop depending on cowardly knights to save you, Rapunzel.
- +1 y
What exactly are you even talking about? If you're referring to cops saving people... thats their gig amd as you mentioned we live in the USA. Meaning we have laws here that must be taken into consideration. Just because I own a gun doesn't mean this is the wild west...
Clearly thus is too much for you. Take care. - +1 y
That's their gig and they ain't exactly holding up to it. That's what I'm talking about.
+1 ySell off their military surplus gear. Imprison every cop that causes the city to pay out settlements.

@Ryfyle I will say..
Nothing was ever going to save Derek Chauvin from the massive, unforgiving cock of the law from forcing its way into his unlubed asshole.
Either he was going to be trialed and get out on bond or someone else was going to end up taking matters into their own hands.
If it involves BLM, you’re fucked. The excessive funding they have is astronomical.

+1 yYes that means increasing funding. One of the city or state has behavioral health help. They use it as first responders where police is not needed yet and this team can take care of the challenge on hand. Such teams should be every where.
