+1 yIf they are friends with you and y'all have that cool calm easy goingness with each others its fine and can be something pals can laugh about...
Its something my friend and I would laugh at.
If you aren't saying it with ill intent and you mean well and literally have good intentions to help a friend out its not badBut if you are saying it in a conceited know it all I'm better than anyone manner then thats wrong.30 Reply

Even if you were a professional counselor of some sort, it would be wildly unethical to refer to them as this.51 Reply- +1 y
Hmm i dont think they are beneath me at all. In fact i see them as equals almost. Abd as explained i see their humanity and that is a (one) reason i choose to help them.
Anyways refer to my update to see how i will now refer to people im helping out

If you ever call me a project I am projecting that I will throw the closest hard object at you until is is projecting from your forehead. 😁67 Reply- +1 y
Hopefully that object is an expensive snes game so i can add to my collection ;)

+1 yIt's weird, but not necessarily immoral. Just kinda odd to refer to people as "projects".
Personally, I just have friends I like to support. They're not projects, they're friends and contribute to my life as I contribute to theirs.43 Reply- +1 y
You want and hope to get them to a happier place in their lives right?
- +1 y
I don't presume that I can get them there, or that I know what "happier" looks like for them.
I only know that I can do what I can to help them pursue their own goals, and be here to support them.
But I'm not the driver of their destiny. They are. - +1 y
Right i can try too. I can't solve their problems but i can show them how much i care
+1 yMaybe weird isn’t the best word to describe it. But it sounds like they are projects, called that to keep a sort of disconnect or keep them at arms reach.
Could be wrong though. I think generally people prefer not to be considered a project.22 Reply- +1 y
nah they aren't arms reach. after all i often share extremely personal stuff about my life with them too
anyways if you read my updates i will not be using this word. i got a different way to refer to them - +1 y
Ah, I missed the updates!
710 opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. I think " project" is the wrong term to use. People are not projects, they are human. A friend who needs a an ear and advice sounds better. I'm the same way as you though. I'm happy to help anyone who messages me.
41 Reply- +1 y
Yeah i amended it in the updates
+1 yI like the amended version better. I usually just say my friend.
43 Reply- +1 y
Indeed. As i say i see their humanity
- +1 y
Me too!!!
You’re a good person. (A good toad? 😊) - +1 y

+1 yNo it's not weird, a project is just a task with a constructive goal in mind, it's more a description of your actions for the subject (rather than being a description of the subject). For example, if I have an art project, when I call the artwork my project, it's like saying it's my duty, not in the intention context of obligation, but in the sense that no one complains about being someone's duty, because they don't mistake that for a label.
11 Reply- +1 y
Basically project is a verb, not an adjective.

m +1 y"my" <<< I would have a bigger problem with this choice of words
43 Reply- +1 y
both can be taken the wrong way, because it does sound wrong
- +1 y
Ok “my friend who needs someone that cares about them and wants to genuinely help them”
- +1 y
yes, I would say that reflects better your true intentions, which is wanting to help someone you care about
+1 yYeah "project" seems dehumanizing.. I once knew someone Who referred to people he was involved with as his "back up plan" or "experiments"...
22 Reply- +1 y
Yeah i guess its ill advised but check my updates i wint use it anymore
- +1 y
Much better👍👍

+1 yMaybe slightly. I think "project" implies it can be finished. But we are never done.
21 Reply- +1 y
Not finished but worked on yes
+1 yI don’t think it’s good to refer to someone as projects. I wouldn’t like to be called that
30 ReplyI'm a project lol but it definitely makes you cool in my eyes

they are people49 Reply- +1 y
Right they are still people but projects too
- +1 y
Do you know the impact on someone if they find out they are simply ‘another project’ ?
- +1 y
No ehat?
- +1 y
@chrismaster69 is right here... some people are very sensitive, and they could feel really affected to find out that you refer to them or see them in such way, for the most part or most people might not be a big deal... but you would not want to hurt the one or few that won't take it well.
And then you will find yourself in a very tough and difficult position, because you will explain yourself, and they might see where you're coming from or your better intentions but still... you won't be able to remove the impact of your choice of words and things might not be the same. - +1 y
@NathanDavis thanks
@Still-alive
It’s like this, each person is an individual and every day they walk in for a counselling session, they are usually a different person to the one you saw the week before.
The reason you will be helping them, can be wild and varied from a body shaming problem, or a girl that’s been gang raped and tortured in front of her boyfriend (who owed them cash) for a weekend.
You then also have abuse survivors, drug addicts, young carers who have to help their alcoholic or disabled Mother before they go to school.
The word project is inherently offensive, each person is special, individual, and in need of support and love. - +1 y
Ok well i never said this out loud to anyone but i see these as people who need real help and i feel like i can help them if not their specific situation then in showing that i do in fact care about them and desire to help get them to a better place then they word so”project” in that case is my way of seeing that objective. Of course if they never get there it can be difficult but I would still be there for them.
- +1 y
I am genuinely their friends and see them as real human beings though. Perhaps i should refrain from using this charged word that seems to be triggering
- +1 y
@Still-alive is it the US where they refer to people as coming from the Projects?
- +1 y
Oh yeah that. Yes I wasn’t thinking about that, damn. Ok well see my reply to nathandavis’ answer ill amend it
