I have watched videos of floods since I created this question. And now I know how it happens.

Drowning in the flowing waters

Getting traped in cellars and also either drown or get electricuted.

Die from dehydration when being isolated for a longer time.

Get crushed under mudslides or collapsing buildings, or buried under general debris.

Die from drinking dirty tap water, as the drinking water reserves get tainted by dirty river water that also carries lots of different particles from all sorts of sources.

Persistent heavy downpours over the same area for extended periods of time can generate fast moving water over normally dry land that cause flash floods and mudslides.

Currents I believe. Sweeps you out or pins you somewhere and eventually you drown. But also, some people can’t swim. Not sure why…

You know the holes in which parts of the flood evacuates from.
It's literally holes in the ground and if the are open people can get sucked in
