what do you think?

I disagree because people shouldn't have to be wealthy or rich just to afford necessities. Some people live luxurious lifestyles and that's their choice. Some people have luxurious cars and homes but I honestly don't care about having that stuff. I just want to be able to pay my bills and do some fun things like traveling once in a while
hmm sounds like you agree then actually lol. cause thats basically what this quote is saying
"Atheist" Cringe.
There will always be a lower class that struggles to meet the necessity, no matter what bullshit you try to think up of to fix it. Because while those ideas may seem utopian, they are easy to manipulate and there is always a bad person that will manipulate a good thing and make it impossible.
And at the same time, there will always be rich, there will always be wealthy people. Do you think Communism stopped Billionaires from existing? haha, it only put the wealthy at the top and in power forever, because those in the party were wealthiest.
Being incapable of skilled work shouldn't entitle you to luxury.
sustainability should be the aim... and then, wealth should not represent such a problem for the vast majority of the people... but those are just ideals, not our reality
"should" is perhaps the biggest "what if" of all what ifs
Wealth does not equal covering just basic necessities. So I don't understand why this is a question at all.
I like the Money song, though I prefer The Flying Lizards' version.
well he's commenting on how bad things are now, how it seems like you have to be wealthy to afford basic things like food, shelter or healthcare
Oh ok. Well 'wealth' is still the wrong word. Money always has to be on a sliding scale.
But the middle class in North America has shrunk down to almost nothing, this is true. They have shouldered the burdens too long. The situation would be completely untenable if it wasn't for borrowed debt (which ultimately only digs the problem in deeper.)

Wealth represents freedom. To me at least. I wouldn't consider myself wealthy, or rich. But in the last 10 years, we've done significantly better than when we were working for other people, rather than ourselves.
Very true, untill tax time lol
Greater access to anything that takes money to get. It takes money to get luxury. It takes money to get necessities. Ideally it doesn't take as much money to get necessities tho.
Yeah your last sentence is what he's getting at there
So it takes less wealth to get greater access to necessities than it takes to get greater access to luxury. But wealth still represents greater access to them both.
But he's saying you have to be pretty wealthy these days to even afford the necessities as evidence by the huge and growing homeless population. A lot of them do have jobs but its not enough to afford a place to live for many of them
Yeah the level of wealth needed for everything is rising. And that's hard to keep up with. I wish there was a way to make it reverse but I don't know what that would cost and I don't know if it would work. So I don't know if fixing wealth is a viable option.
Absolutely not. There is only so much resources. It may feel good to provide for those in need and that may work in the short-term. However, all it does is allow them to survive and breed more of the same. Eventually, there are too many of them to support and the economy collapses. Then instead of a few in great need dying, 10 times as many die.
If a large number of its citizens can't access the necessities then a country is failing.
the problem is as the standard of living goes up what people deem necessities used to be luxuries or not even possible. It makes me laugh when you see hipsters and liberal arts students protesting about income inequality when they all have iphones in their hands.
Strongly agree, which i think is what England tries to aim for from at least my knowledge. Compared to america that don't. With the biggest example of course been healthcare differences.
Yeah, the top 10% of wealthy people don't even know this site exists, lol. They are the ones who would vote strongly disagree. I find that irony both hilarious and sad
I have this terrible feeling I've just agreed with something Hitler said, but yes, I agree.
No its not from him lol
That quote at 4:15 - "Access to water should not be a public right", Nestle CEO
What a sick, twisted, demented psychopath.
I'm kinda confused by what that means. 😅
basically that we shouldn't need to be rich to afford the necessities in life only if you want the luxuries in life instead.
I literally never thought about this in those terms but it sounds reasonable
I am not very sure what this question is asking but if people have something for a long time, soon it becomes a necessity.
A lot of people today could not imagine a life without cell phones.
ironically... there's about a billion people who have never had electricity or potable water... can and have to live without it pretty much all their lives, and we... will suffer without a phone for a couple of days
it really puts things in perspective
Necessity on excess is a luxury, when you have lots of food on your fridge, to the point of making you obese, that's a luxury which past humans didn't have. You're a wealthy person in a sense.
That type of video is bullshit, rich people are rich for reasons, sometimes they sell lots of goods for a lot of stuff for cheaper prices, sometimes they rob a bank, what the hell is wrong with that, and sometimes they become kings and demand ridiculously high taxes from people, I agree, some of these reasons are wrong, but now always. Jeff Bezos is the good kind of rich in my book.
If every American donated 1% of their income for starving children, famine would end in the world, if you are an American and is reading this, do you donate 1% of your income to poor people? If not, then you're being a bit hypocritical if you hate rich people, right?
lots of good for a lot of people*

EDIT: Ignore my first reply to my own thread, there are some typos.
All the money in the world could never make me happy neither would luxury do it either. For me, money is for the necessity.
I would like to add, wealth does should not control natural necessities that were given to all by God.
I totally disagree, The Wealthiest should not decree upon how the middle class lives. CONSIDERING the Middle Class pays for your dammed Taxes.
I agree 100%! This aligns completely with my philosophy!
Real Wealth creates both a greater access to necessities and luxury. It's not mutual exclusive.
Excess/spare/reserve necessity is a luxury so the statement is meaningless.
I agree with this one
