Why can’t the US finally give reparations?

Well, easier said than done. I don’t even know how or where the money would be pulled out from to give reparations and to whom? Surely the Irish, Jews, Puerto Ricans, Japanese, and many other groups have an argument that they too deserve reparations. Reparations is a complex issue, because it’s not clear that the history is 100% accurate that the US caused intentional harm to a group of people for the sole purpose of causing that group harm. In other words, you need to have quite knowledgeable on history and the exact events/situations that took place to make a decision that the US is at fault. I’ve heard counterpoints to a lot of historical things that makes me think “who is right?” What can we be fairly right about? Well, slavery existed. I’m 100% certain about. The Holocaust existed, 100% certain. It’s just, people like to contort history to fit their, mainly political goals and beliefs.
I personally don’t think the US should give reparations of the sort I’m thinking about. I don’t think the feeling I get when I think about this because it can get toxic, spiral out of control, complex, and even unjust to be honest.
There are several reasons. The first is that simply transferring wealth based on race would be incredibly unjust. Too much racial mixing and immigration has occurred to easily identify who owes who how much. Genealogies would need to be produced and verified. Many whites descend from men who died fighting to free slaves. There is no way you can convince me that descendants of abolitionists who were killed in action owe reparations to the descendants of freed slaves. Also, it is morally repugnant to punish children for the sins of their ancestors. There is massive injustice in group or social justice.
Second, as a practical matter, a significant cash payment to sizable populations would drive inflation through the roof. Inflation is becoming a problem as it is.
Third, the way things work in America, however reparations would be designed would work to enrich and empower the elite. There is a reason why wealth disparity is relentlessly growing more extreme. It is by design.
Fourth, animated by critical race theory, those pushing for reparations will not drop their grievances after receiving reparations. Any inequality will be deemed evidence of continued effects of past sins requiring more reparations. Reparations can only make sense if it is also agreed that the grievance is consigned to oblivion.
Fifth, America is a fractious country with an increasingly demoralized population that has long been in social decline and is starting to see its global power decline. Reparations could be the straw that breaks the camel’s back.
In the case of Australia, it's only for those indigenous people who were directly affected by the policy of forced removal and integration who are still alive. In the US (I think, and correct me if I'm wrong about this), it goes much further, and the living descendants are asking for "compensation" as well, and that's why it's so controversial.

Why in the fuck should anyone's money go to people who were never slaves? Stealing money from people who did nothing wrong and giving it to people who did nothing right is retarded. How are you even gonna do this? Are you gonna have a list of all black people, what happens with Shaun King or Rachel Dolezal. Also a lot of black people today aren't decedents of slaves, or even descendants Americans in general. Why the fuck should a low income person's money go to Will Smith? Are you gonna do this with only people who are confirmed to be decedents of slaveowners? If so, it's monumentally stupid to punish people for the sins of their fathers, scratch that, the sins of their grand grand grand parents. Are Asians also gonna contribute to the fund? How about white immigrants, or black immigrants. Fuck this shit, it's monumentally retarded. It ain't 1870s anymore.
I'm unaware of that, is there a name for that program?
Because we shouldn’t have too. I say this as a Native American from Arizona. It’s sad that all this happened, not just to Natives but to blacks as well as other races. But that’s not me, I’m not going to profit off my ancestors in that way. We live in a time where people can pretty much achieve what they want. Handing out money isn’t really going to change people’s lives, because if you don’t know how to manage it or invest it you’re still going to be just as broke, maybe further in debt. I have family who come from different tribes who get revenue from the casinos quarterly of about $3,000, but they’re always broke. Maybe one or two of my family members save it. No we don’t get reparations either, at least none of the tribes that I know of in Az. Maybe healthcare but even than that still isn’t the best. I utilize the VA which is maybe once a year for my annual physical after 10 years of service. People need to get up, make their life what they want it to be.
You just claimed a week ago that the US pays reparations to Nstive Americans. So which is it?
Government spending, grants, affirmative action and minority set-asides and certain tuition and tax breaks already function as financial benefits for blacks and Native Americans.
According to what you posted, the reparations in Australia are being paid to people who were forcibly taken from their families as children, I. e., suffered direct harm.
Sometime you may grow up.
You know, in 1865, had it been up to me, I'd probably have resettled any freed slave who wanted to be given free land in the Great Plains or wherever else it was basically being given away at the time.
But it's been 155 years since then. Lincoln wanted to resettle freed slaves in Africa. Would their descendants have been better off in Liberia today than in the US? Almost certainly not.
by the way, one of my grandfathers was a slave for a few years 76-80 years ago. You don't see me running around demanding reparations.
So how much would you pay per person in reparations if it were up to you?
During Reconstruction.
You're more militant than the New Black Panthers.
How about telling us what you think should be paid out and to whom, Mr. Reparations? Should they be paid to anyone whose ancestors suffered discrimination? And what current problems would these payments solve?
I see your knowledge of history is almost nonexistent. The Radical Republicans had huge majorities in Congress when Johnson was President, and in fact they overrode a little over half of his vetoes. The Republicans ran the show and carried out Reconstruction backed by federal troops.
Interesting that the Scion of Segregation and Slavery thinks someone not burdened by his guilt and who has a clear mind must have sympathized with the Scion's Confederate ancestors.
LMAO, Odd, I thought you were a somewhat intelligent guy who just had crazy political beliefs, but you really don't know much about history. Didn't you learn about Reconstruction and the Radical Republicans in school?
Presidents weren't as powerful back then, and there weren't Jim Crow laws until after Reconstruction was over. It took a few years for former Confederate states to get readmitted to the Union and
Congress passed a lot of legislation during Reconstruction, including the 13th-15th Amendments and the Civil Rights Act of 1875. And as I pointed out, they overrode Johnson's vetoes 15 out of 29 times, so how effective do you think he was?
Because the US has kept pushing it off until now people want to say “you weren’t a slave” or “why do black people get reparations” we should have got them when we were supposed too but now the right likes to use the excuse that nobody alive was a slave or owned a slave which in reality doesn’t matter, it’s about principal, we are owed reparations to US broke a promise and now they don’t want to deliver
#1: None of the slaves nor their immediate children are alive.
#2: America doesn't care about black people pain nor struggle wheather past or current.
#3: The tax payers won't be happy seeing money coming out of their pay check to give it to black people.
Because doing so will take money from people who haven't done anything worthy of apologizing to minorities for (and from minorities themselves) at the threat of imprisonment and giving that money to people who have never experienced of the actions that the people who have been robbed are supposedly sorry for. This isn't difficult to figure out.
If we evenly divided money up between whites and blacks everything would go right back the way it was in 10 years tops.
Oh by the way white people are NOT the top income earners in the USA. Asians are.
let's give everyone money because it doesn't really exist. we might have it one day and if invested it could make money.
i hate idiots
Because America is flat broke and can't afford it is my best guess
Can't argue there
A trillion dollars plus a year
There are things that can't be settled with ''money''.
I can’t believe you’re so racist you owned slaves! You really should pay them reparations.
They are indeed, and a lot of people have figured that out, which is why we hear so much racist propaganda from leftists. Whenever and wherever they are in power, they are a disaster for minority groups as a whole, with some grifters benefiting on the backs of those who are screwed over by leftist policies. That's real world stuff with devastating real world effects on a lot of people while a few well-connected racist grifters benefit handsomely.
You're the Scion of Segregation and Slavery, and by all indications, you feel very guilty about it.
Feel free to explain your case for Lincoln being a progressive, but as I mentioned I don't see that. If that makes you throw your toys out of your pram in a fit of tantrums, so be it.
You have a rather inaccurate view of Lincoln. Here is your history lesson:
www.minnpost.com/.../
And you're guilty because you are descended from slaveowners and segregationists. I've asked you to explain what form the reparations you claim to support would take and what they'd achieve- questions you refuse to answer. Are you merely virtue signaling? Or would you benefit financially from these payments? If you can't articulate what their purpose would be, you can't be taken seriously. And it's not legal to make payments to one race.
You're a racist because you believe blacks don't have agency (a typical, implicit view for most white leftists) and you're very anti-white (again, a typical leftist view). You think all blacks are poor.
I think your conscience would best be salved by making donations to charities.
Reparations for what? My ancestors didn't do anything wrong...
Because then the government would have no one to give food stamps and welfare too.
why dont you come and take it from us? You know that is what we are waiting for. They we will give it to you, tiny dick
For who Native Americans?
It has, with welfare.
All races get welfare, not reparations
@SmokinAces2000 But the poorest you are, the more welfare you receive.
And "potato, potato, tomato, tomato".
Yeah not all black people are poor so again those aren’t reparations
@SmokinAces2000 But if they aren't poor, they don't need it.
Not all black people were slaves, some had slaves. A bigger proportion of the freed ones had slaves.
And no one today in the US who wasn't an inmate due to be released under kamala was a slave.
It doesn’t matter if nobody today was a slave wether you want to admit or not black people are owed reparations, it’s not our fault that we didn’t get them after slavery like we were promised.
@SmokinAces2000 Why would they be owed reparations? They weren't slaves.
Have you heard of statue of limitations?
Oh, you mean the black people in africa currently being enslaved by other black Africans? Oh, those are owed reparations.
Are those people in African American? Why are you bringing up a whole different continent we aren’t talking about Africa we are talking about America so that’s irrelevant in this conversation
@SmokinAces2000 No, I mean in africa, who are slaves, right now.
Not the people who were never slaves, and for just being black.
"Oh, your 4th degree ancestors were black slave owners and white slave owners, here's some racist reparations because you are black."
lol!
It's not irrelevant, it's very relevant, it's slavery today, the topic is slavery and reparations.
The topic is slavery and reparations in America not anywhere else
@SmokinAces2000 Nope, the topic is slavery and reparations.
You bitch that america first is racist, but you say america only.
I have a pale skin, I descend from a slave, am I owed reparations? Or only the 4th degree offspring of black slave owners?
I think statue of limitations and the fact that you can't punish people for laws which are not yet in effect means I'm not owed reparations by blacks descended of black slave owners.
(and technically brazilian slaves "got" reparations, but it wasn't enforced all that well, no law was in the new republic. No idea if my great great grand mother ever received something.)
Of course I say America because we live in America and we are talking about America , why would I bring up other countries while talking about America and second, black people didn’t get reparations when they were supposed to. the right loves to bitch about the black community and wonder why it’s so fucked up today, maybe if we got reparations things would be better today and like I said black people are owed reparations but then again America is famous for breaking promises
@SmokinAces2000 lol, you believe only america matters, you sir, ousted yourself.
I don't live in the US, I'm brazilian, and I find your position ironic. But hey, if you didn't have double standards you'd have none, and inconsistency is the closest you'll get to consistency.
I know that for americans, america must come first, which is why the boarder should be secured.
Because the inner cities just can't handle more illegal immigrants who are basically tax free labor.
