Lots of black people were enslaved by other black people in Africa many many years ago.

They came to America and worked, after which white people freed them, and lots of those white people died in the process of freeing the slaves.

Tired of this slavery reparation discussion honestly. There's been slaves throughout history and the people you want us to "pay" were also guilty of owning their own slaves. I’m not paying a damn thing. Blacks aren’t the only ones who have a history of enslavement. Almost every race at one time had some sort of slavery in their history. Other native tribes enslaved other natives. Should those tribes get reparations from that tribe? The black slaves that were brought here to the US were enslaved by stronger black tribes who sold them to the whites. So maybe those tribes should pay the reparations. Yes you should never forget your history, but to use that to get free money is ridiculously. Our ancestors were the ones who went through this, not us. Some people use that as an excuse to commit crimes. I think if our ancestors could see us today they’d be ashamed of us. There’s no way I’m going to use my grandma as an excuse of how she was treated to act stupid. by the way not all tribes have casinos or get revenue from the casinos. Free healthcare just straight up sucks. As for people who say we should give the land back to Natives or whatever other race of people were there first, that sounds good and all but it’s more complicated than that. What about the Natives who took land from other Natives? How far back do we go. There’s more to it than people think.

Totally agree almost everyone on this planet as some type of slavery in their family history. Even Africans enslaved Africans. In the 1600 & 1700 hundreds nobody would of seen it as wrong. It just would of been part of the natural order of selection.

Even genocide of Native Americans was unintentional, initially. They. had no idea about immunity and the spread of disease. Of course by the end they knew and were fighting a genocidal war.

But at the end of the day that was 4 to 6 generations ago. You can't hold 2022 me responsible for what "SOME", not all white people did back then. My family didn't show up in this country until th 1890's so don't even talk to me about this.

Good comment, but why do you think free health care sucks? In the UK we get free treatment at the point of need. We pay for it via compulsory National Insurance. We never have to go to hospital worried about being able to afford treatment. Treatment is not cost inflated to fill the pockets of hospitals and private insurance companies. The people alive today were not, and their parents were not, and their grandparents were not, and on and on for many generations. No one alive today or anyone they ever knew was harmed. If it's made in Asia, it most likely is not fair trade and some one is making it for pennies. Especially good "sales".

If you want to give reparations, no one is stopping you. Open up your wallet and hand money out as you see fit. But no one alive today was a slave or owned a slave, so that's long past.

You cannot fix past racism by implementing MORE racism - but that's exactly what the far-left is doing, and they aren't even shy about doing so. Here in California, they tried to amend the California constitution to REMOVE the California Civil Rights Act so that they COULD implement systemic racism. That attempt failed, but I'm sure they'll be back to try again.

We currently have EQUALITY of opportunity enshrined into the law. Why is that not enough? Why do we need to CREATE racism? Will MORE racism make things better?

@Jenny-Marie In 2020, California far-left activists tried to pass Proposition 16, which would have repealed California's rule that you could not discriminate on the basis of race, gender, religion, etc. They wanted to legally be able to discriminate on the basis of race, so that they could force "diversity" onto companies and certainly all state agencies, forcing them to fire white people and hire minorities, regardless of their qualifications or experience. And by "minorities", they meant black people (as long as they supported Democrats), because they certainly weren't going to enforce quotas on Asians or Indians, who are plentiful and successful already.

The Left are Marxists, and Marxist doctrine is to see everything through the lens of "victim" and "oppressor", and they want to convince black people that they are victims, just like they want to convince women, and gays, and PoC, and any other division of people they can think of that they're all victims - and they have no problem at institutionalizing discrimination to accomplish their goals.

I do think there should be a white American citizen tax only because we can’t have native Americans or Asians or Mexicans paying slavery reparations when they didn’t do anything wrong there.

The people who founded black Wallstreet was actually given real reperations because they were living on a native American reservation, and they used the reparations to start black wallstreet.
