Logically, yes he should have. But that is hindsight.

If we can always use hindsight, then everyone who doesn't get the vaccine, and doesn't get COVID, should not have gotten the vaccine. Why? Because the long-term effects of the vaccine are unknown. Therefore, if you know in hindsight that you will not get Covid, you are better off not getting the vaccine.

Not really, the guy is old enough that he has likely had all the children he ever would have. Meaning he has already passed on his genes. Similar to how there are so many diseases that only show later in life, like Parkinson's and Alzheimer’s. If they had shown up earlier in life the individual’s wouldn’t have reproduced and the genes wouldn’t have been passed down.
