+1 yWell I know that weed is socially ingrained to be bad. It use to be widely used and accepted in society, people wouldn't really smoke it but it was cultivated and used for hemp products and used in a lot of medicine. Then one day during the Mexican revolution Mexican lads were like "oh yea you can smoke it too". Because of the growing fear or xenophobia going on it began circulating thay smoking it would cause a "lust for blood" this is also when it began being called Marihuana (eventually becoming marijuana) the name change was to instill fear of foreignness. After that states began banning it.
So yeah marijuana being illegal was largely due to xenophobia.
Cocaine was also buried in racism in a NYT paper in 1914 it described the effects of cocaine on African Americans as "auditory hallucinations, paranoia, murderous and violent rages, and making African Americans impervious to the effects of bullets" so in fear of "negro cocaine fiend" they made it illegal. It remained largely dormant until the 60s.25 Reply- +1 y
Pot alters brain chemistry... not in a good way.

@Juxtapose If you enjoy being a stoner just admit it. No problem.
But don't use lame excuses to justify being one.. - +1 y
I mean yeah of course there are issues with weed. As is with many legal drugs (cigarettes, alcohol, pharmaceuticals, coffee even) they all in some way alter your brain.

+1 yBecause for 60 years there have been smear campaigns against the people who use them. Anti-drug and alcohol propaganda has been around even longer, just not under the guise of a war.
Take the phrase "war on drug". Who is the enemy? Not the drug itself, drugs can't defend themselves. A simple saying that automatically targets the users, regardless of amount and functionality of the individual.
Many anti-drug programs use over exaggeration and sometime straight up lies to make their point.
My DARE officer in elementary school said that marijuana was the leading cause of drug related deaths in the world.
Even adding in the shootings of individuals with marijuana on them its a stretch to say that.
In my experience the amount of people that use a substance to alter their state heavily outweigh the non users. As i consider alcohol to be one of the substances.
Because of the illegality of other substances, testing and studies are rare and usually paid and skewed by entities that benefit from anti-drug laws and regulations.10 Reply

I suppose there's also different types of drug users.
From the recreational, to the heroin addicts.
The latter, when you look into their eyes, are a very sad state of affairs. It makes them act very badly at times. 'tis understandable of course.
I feel for them. But sadly, they can't be trusted to make the right choice. They just want that next fix.00 Reply
From my perspective, many people know that 1 out of 5 drug users do not want help and use your goodness to their gain, to get the next fix. Many overdose and either are left brain damaged, for the family and med staff to care for them, with debts, broken promises, destroyed lives of family members etc. Or they take their life and leave destruction behind for others to deal with. Or they constantly in and out of trouble that costs tax payers a lot. In and out of rehabs that also costs people a lot and they are simply useless to society. However taking the Hippocratic Oath a physician or a nurse must never refuse help and treatment to such individuals. What we think is irrelevant.

@Juxtapose An addict has a mental obsession for more drugs. He has a strong craving for more.
Addiction can take a good person and turn him into a liar, cheat and a thief.
Not all liars, cheats and thieves are addicts. But addicts take on those traits.
I think people have a disdain for drug addicts more so than drug users. If it isn't hurting other people, it's not my business. Drug addicts don't care who they hurt. The only thing they care about is the drug, and they don't care what they have to do to get it.

Addicts will rob and steal to get what they need.
Woman will give $5 blow jobs to buy her crack.
Drug abuse increases domestic violence. That includes violence against children and men.
+1 yCus there’s so many murders associated with it. A guy on my street literally got stabbed to death over drugs a few months ago, they stabbed him over 100 times. The majority of people who take drugs are violent, any money they get goes towards their next fix. Nothing good ever comes from drugs.

@Juxtapose Smoking ANYTHING near me allows the byproduct of your activity to surround my head. The byproduct of my wine drinking is piss. Want me to piss on your head? I guess some guys would love that.
954 opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. Because drug use usually leads people to victimize the rest of society. Junkies need their fixes, and they resort to crime to get more drugs, money to buy drugs, or things that they can exchange for money to buy drugs.
10 Replywith me no i don't i just hate certain ex's who were drug addicts. look myself and my significant other the love of my life are both former and current (to an extent) drug users. they do weed and a few other recreational drugs i used to drink heavily and was hooked on narcotics painkillers. my ex's stole shit from me to buy drugs and stunk up my apartment with cocaine and crack (this was back in 05) and i almost got busted by the cops because of her all those years ago.
